California
Have you been to California
Seen the sights and people there
the streets of sleepy sea towns
Tasted salty air
Once I flew to New York City
Took my in Time Square
Soho nights and Broadway lights
Such a pity you weren't there
Pack your and lock your door
I'll take you places you've not been before
All I've ever wished to do is
through this life with you

In Japan, most people think robots are good for their work and life. They don't think robots are threatening, but people in the United States and Europe do. Japanese people love robots very much. Sometimes they give a welcome party for them on their first day at work.
Robots are also very useful in people's work and life in Japan. Some robots can make sushi; some robots can plant trees; and others can even meet guests of the company. There are also robots doing things like serving tea, cleaning offices and feeding babies.
In Japan, people think robots will be more important in the future. There will be more old people in Japan, so the country needs more robots. In 2005, over 370,000 robots worked in factories across Japan, and it was about 40% of the robots working around me world. Soon robots can even take the place of workers in factories in Japan and people can have lots of free time to enjoy themselves. People predict (预言) there will be 1,000,000 robots in factories all over the country by 2050.
Kumar and his two friends built a robot and named it Athena. They would go for Battle of the Bots—the city's biggest robot competition, and it would start in two days. The winning team would get $5,000.
"How are we going to beat the Cougars?" asked Alex. The Cougars was the team that won the last two years' competitions.
Kumar said, "The Cougars always build a big and strong robot. But usually their robot isn't very fast."
"Our robot is fast," Alyssa said.
"Yes!" Kumar said. "Don't worry. I have a plan for how to do it." Kumar told the group his plan and they began to work.
Two days later, the competition began. Kumar said to his friends, "I'm sure the plan will work and Athena will win. Just wait and see."
Athena won all of her first battles (较量). The Cougars' big, strong robot, The Avenger, did well, too. By the end of the day, The Avenger and Athena were the only two robots left in the competition.
Soon the battle between Athena and The Avenger began. The Avenger lunged (猛扑) at Athena, but the small robot was too quick for him. Athena went behind The Avenger and, before the larger robot had time to turn, Athena hit him from behind. The Avenger fell down and couldn't move.
The three friends all jumped up excitedly. "Now it's time for the real question," said Alex. "▲"
Have you heard about "Face Recognition (刷脸)" technology? It begins to become a popular and exciting development in China. In September 2017, a Kentucky Fried Chicken KPRO restaurant in Hangzhou utilized (利用) this new technology.
Customers will go through the buffet (自助餐) line and then check out with their food using this "Just look with your face" payment method. When they get to the payment machine, they simply choose the Payment of facial recognition and then stand in front of the screen for 1-2 seconds. They then confirm their account and phone number and finish the payment process—all of it takes no more than 10 seconds!
Nowadays, the words "Face Recognition" have become popular around China with the development of the ability to pay with facial recognition. Here are several examples of how you might hear the words in daily life in China. In Hangzhou, a high school provides a service where students can pay for meals by facial recognition. However, this isn't the only way we use the words in China! When you combine these characters together you also get another meaning: Jackie Chan got a dinner for free by "brushing his face".
Do you know more about other meanings of "Face Recognition"? Please tell me more about it by sending an email to Susan2018@126.com or call me at 8524689. We'll talk about the topic next time.
Is your TV connected to the Internet? What about your chair, or your fridge? Probably they are not. But in the future, most things in your home may be connected, as the so-called "Internet of things" is developing.
The Internet of things may be coming sooner than you think. In 2015, Samsung CEO spent a lot of time talking about the Internet of things. He said that in the next five years, every Samsung product will be part of the Internet of things, whether it's a vacuum cleaner or a washing machine.
So, how do household objects that are part of the Internet of things work? Well, think of a common chair. When connected to the Internet, the chair warms up when it knows that the user has just walked into the room and is feeling cold.
An Internet-connected camera could help people feel safer in their homes. It can recognize people's faces, and even can see when someone passes by and send you a message on your smartphone to let you know who's there. If the person is someone you don't know, it can tell you that, too.
But according to MIT Technology Review, whether companies are connecting dog food bowls or security systems to the Internet, there may be some problems. For example, many early connected-home devices (装置) don't have much built-in security, which means they could be hacked (被黑客攻击). In addition, it could be difficult to get these devices to work together especially when they are made by different companies. To fight this, many companies have joined the Open Connectivity Foundation, which has more than 300 members now.
So, picture this: you enter your home. The temperature changes to make you feel comfortable. Your favourite music starts playing for you. Do you think that this would be a good thing? It may happen sooner than you think.
There once lived a king and a queen. They were very stupid. One day the queen had a baby daughter. When they saw their baby, they both cried out, "My goodness! small it is! It's hairless and toothless! It's a monster (怪物)!" They (send) for all the doctors in the country and ordered them (make) some medicine for her.
"After she takes your medicine, she must grow to the right size and have hair and (tooth)," the king said to the doctors. "If you don't do this, I (kill) you." The doctors thought it was not possible, they could not say anything against the king's order. Just then an old doctor came up. "Oh, we shall (certain) follow your order," he said, "but it takes time. We have to dig for something to make medicine in the Kunlun Mountains when the snow melts for the (two) time. The snow on the mountains melts only once in six years. So we need twelve years."
At last the king agreed and the doctors took away the little baby. her twelfth birthday, they brought her back to her parents with long black hair and beautiful teeth. The king and queen felt very (satisfy) and gave the doctors many expensive presents.
