-- No, we still need to buy a map before we start the trip.
There is a zoo in our city. My parents often take me there on 1. I like animals. I have a lot of toy animals in my room. In the 2, I can see tigers, elephants, bears, monkeys, pandas, snakes, and many other 3. Some animals are friendly, but some are not. Tigers, bears and some snakes are 4. That is why they have to stay in 5. But I do not think it is good 6 animals to stay in cages. They should be free. The animals in cages can't be 7.
I think the most interesting animals in the zoo are the dolphins. I like 8 them swim and jump. They swim so fast and jump so high. They can play 9 a ball. They can even(甚至) stand up and walk! They are very 10 to people. If you fall into water and can't swim, they may come to help you.
I read some stories about amazing people today. Here I'd like to share something interesting with you. Xie Qiuping, a Chinese woman, has the longest hair in the world. Her hair is 5,085 meters long! How amazing! Before I got to know this, I thought my hair was quite long. It is nearly 50cm long. I don't know how she washes her hair.
The tallest man in the world lived in the USA. His name was Robert Pershing Wadlow. He was 2.72 metres tall. I want to know if he lived in a flat like mine, how could he go into the room? The tallest man died in 1940.
There is a man in France called Michael Lotito. He eats such items as metal(金属), glass and rubber. He even once ate a model plane! How strange! I don't think metal is as tasty(美味的) as sweets or chocolates.
Animals grow up in different ways. They have lots of lessons to learn.
Some animals are born helpless but their mothers protect them. A newborn kangaroo is the size of a bee. She stays in her mother's safe pouch. She doesn't open her eyes for at least five months. A newborn monkey cannot walk. He is carried by his mother.
Other baby animals can walk soon after they're born. They learn to run with their mother when danger is near. A baby zebra(斑马) can run an hour after she is born.
Some baby animals are born in a place that is safe. Other baby animals are born in the open. Baby wolves are born in large holes. A baby elephant is born on open, grassy land. Other elephants make a circle(圈) to protect her.
Animals that drink their mothers' milk are called mammals. A mother bear's milk is fatty and rich. Baby bears need lots of fat to keep warm in winter. They have milk for six months. Baby zebras drink milk for six months or more! As baby animals grow they need solid(固体的) food. Baby lions eat what their mother can catch.
Annie, a neighbor's daughter, is a sweet girl but just a bit shy. Her birthday's coming, but she felt lonely and was not happy. Her family is quite small and poor, so there wouldn't be any birthday visitors.
I wanted to send her a special gift to make her happy. I got an idea! I bought some balloons, streamers(彩带), birthday hats, and so on at a store.
I took a small recorder(录音机) and asked three friends to sing Happy Birthday and send some birthday wishes to her. It was funny! When other people found out what we were doing, they added their voices, so it really sounded like we had a party going on!
Then I put a card, some mini balloons and streamers in a beautiful box. When I arranged(布置) everything, it was like opening a mini birthday party!
Finally, I added a pack of cupcakes and a box of birthday candles and then sent it to Annie.
I got a call a few days later. Annie said her roommate and one of their neighbors in the dorm all liked the gift. She sounded so happy and I was so glad that she had some friends to share with her. And Annie told me it was the funniest birthday she can remember.
Look up in the sky. Do you see any clouds? What do they look like? Some clouds are fluffy(绒毛状的) and white, like cotton balls. Others are dark almost black, and make you hold an umbrella. At sunrise and sunset, clouds can look red, purple, or yellow—as if they were colored with crayons. But what are clouds anyway?
You can't reach out and touch the clouds, but you can make your own in a bottle.
You need
* an adult helper
* a huge, empty glass jar
* a metal strainer(过滤器)
* hot water
* ice
Do these
Step1. Have your helper fill the jar with hot water, leave it there for two minutes, then pour out most of the water. Leaving just an inch or two at the bottom of the jar.
Step2. It's your turn, put the strainer over the mouth of the jar, fill the strainer with ice. Watch the jar.
What happened?
A cloud formed in the jar! Some of the hot water at the bottom of the jar turned into hot water vapor(蒸汽). The water vapor rose and met with the cold air coming off the ice. When the water vapor condensed, it formed a cloud. Hot air rises and carries with it lots of water vapor, the higher the air rises, the more it cools down. Soon the cold air can't hold all the water vapor so it starts turning into tiny water drops, and becomes a cloud.
Here is a page from a magazine called Future. Read the following information about things that may happen in twenty years.
Cars will run on solar power (太阳能) and will be much cleaner and safer. For example, if you are too close to another car or if you are driving dangerously, your car will slow down or stop by itself.
New cities will have to be built in the sea. Some cities on water will have two levels(层). People will live on the upper level, the lower level will be used for traffic, shops and factories.
Biotechnology(生物技术) will make food better and healthier. Plants without insects or illnesses(病虫害) will be developed. The taste of fruit and vegetables will be better and food will be kept longer.
Many new ways to cure(治愈) illnesses will be found. People will use products of genetic engineering (基因产品) to cure more illnesses. However, some new illnesses will appear.

Dear Bob,
I haven't heard from you for a long time. I miss you very much!
Since I came to France, I haven't been happy at all because I can't get used to (习惯) everything here, especially(特别) my French class. It's difficult for me to understand the teacher. He speaks so fast that I cannot catch up with him. I can only speak a little French. So I'm afraid of speaking in front of my classmates. I thought they would laugh at me. In fact, they are very friendly to me.
Sometimes I cannot write down what the teacher said. My spelling is bad. I really want to improve my listening, speaking and writing as soon as possible.
Bob, I know you have been in Canada for about one year. How did you deal with all the things when you arrived there first? I have spent some terrible days, I think. I need your help. Can you help me? Write soon! Yours
Tom
