Last year, I took a vacation in the USA with my family. On the way back to my hotel room one day, a lady rushed up to me and asked me I knew first aid (急救). I said, "Yes. I took a course once." She told me (come) quickly because her husband was having a heart attack (心脏病). I walked into her room and saw her husband (sit) in a chair. With the help of the woman's brother, I moved the man to the ground, and I didn't stop giving him CPR (心肺复苏) the ambulance (救护车) showed up.
I hadn't done CPR outside of class, but I took the information that I had learnt and went with it. I did it for as long as I could. It was 10 (minute) from when I got to the man's hotel room to when the ambulance arrived. When I saw the doctors. I told (they) I gave the man CPR and then I left. (actual) I was very worried after it. I didn't know happened to the man for a long time. Then one day, the hotel called my mum, asking about me. Later the man sent me a thank-you letter. That's how I found out that he (be) alive.
Three years ago, I (take) a first aid course as part of my PE requirement, and I learnt CPR in that class. It was required so I had to take the course, but I'm glad that I did.
Cancer (癌症) is a terrible threat to our health. It's really a serious disease. Both adults and children may get cancer. A cancer centre treats many patients each year. As more people need cancer treatment, doctors are trying to find new ways to treat the disease. They also want to help cancer patients learn more about it.
A cancer centre in Davis is planning to expand (扩大). The centre wants to do more research and offer treatment to more patients. It also wants to set up a special hospital. This special hospital is for children with cancer. More space is needed. More money is needed too.
A woman lost her son with cancer. Her son was found to have cancer at the age of five, and died two years later. She wants to do something to help other children with cancer. She wants more research to be done so that cancer can be cured. One thing she can do is to donate (捐赠) some money to the cancer centre. She has donated a lot of money to help treat children with cancer.
It will be all expensive project. The woman's donation will help, but much more money is needed. A local university will offer some money. The rest of the money will be donated by the local people. It will take about two years to raise the rest of the needed funds (资金).
