The Spring Festival is often called "Chinese New Year" by people in western countries, because people in China 1 the end of a lunar(农历)year, and the start of a new lunar year.
At Spring Festival, people want to keep away from 2, so that the new year will 3 with good luck. There are a lot of 4 for the Spring Festival. The Spring Festival is the most important one in China. It is as important as Christmas in the West. On the evening before Spring Festival, all the family members get together and have a big dinner. After dinner, they watch TV and play cards while waiting for the New Year to come.
The next one is the Lantern Festival. It falls on the 15th night of the first lunar (农历) month. People often go out to enjoy the lantern show.
Then comes the Dragon Boat Festival. It is on the 5th lunar month. It is a festival to honor an ancient poet Qu Yuan. People often hold dragon boat competition on that day. So it is now a festival of the Chinese traditional sports.
The next one is the Mid-Autumn Festival. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. The whole family sit in the open air and enjoy the bright moon while they're eating moon cakes and fresh fruit.
On New Year's Eve, people in Italy throw out all the old things. So there are chairs, beds, clothes and plates in the streets. In Spain, New Year comes more quietly. Everyone holds a bag of grapes. When twelve o'clock comes, people start eating the grapes.
In Japan, people eat noodles on New Year's Eve. This food is said to bring long life. Early the next morning, some families climb Mount Fuji. There they watch the first sunrise of New Year.
Spring Festival
In China Spring Festival is the most important festival. It comes on the first day of the first lunar month（阴历月）.
Before Spring Festival comes, people go out to buy things, such as meat, chicken, fish, fruit, sweets and new clothes. They clean their houses and decorate them. The Chinese character fu is a must. It is usually stuck（贴） upside down, which means "fu comes".
The celebrations （庆祝） begin on the eve of the lunar New Year. The family get together for a bi g dinner. If a person is far from home, he will always try to get home for this big dinner. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together, chatting （聊天） and watching TV.
During the holidays （节日）, they go to visit relatives and friends and exchange New Year greetings. They sit around talking and eating candies, cakes and all kinds of delicious food. Every family prepares something special. Each child will get money as a New Year gift. People in the north of China often eat dumplings for breakfast. People in the south often eat niangao because niangao means "higher and higher one year after another".
The celebrations last （持续） 15 days. It will come to an end when Lantern Festival finishes.

It's a day to thank mothers. On that day, mothers usually get flowers and cards from their children. Fathers and children do housework on that day, so mothers can have a good rest. Thanksgiving Day is on the fourth Thursday in November in America. On that day, family members all get together to have a big dinner. Christmas Day comes on December 25th. It's the most important festival in a year. Father Christmas sends presents to children.
