Dear Cindy,
How are you?I had a great time last Monday, June 2th, 2014.It was a traditional Chinese festival (call) Dragon Boat Festival that day.
This festival is in memory of Qu Yuan, one of the greatest Chinese poets. He killed himself by (jump) into the Miluo River on May 5th of the lunar calendar, 278 BC. People there rowed the boats (save) him. But it was too late. They were very sad and then threw rice into the river to feed the fishes so that they would stay away from his body.
From then on, every year on this day, people enjoy making Zongzi which (make) of rice with meat, eggs and so on. In the past we (eat) it only once a year, but now we regard it as our daily food. We can have it any time we like.
Have you ever (watch) the dragon boat race on TV?It is another important part of this festival. Several teams row their dragon shaped boats as fast as they can. The first team to reach the finish line (win).
If you have a plan to visit China next year, would like to spend this festival with us?
Best wishes!
Yours,
Shen
Waste can be seen everywhere and it can bring a lot of problems. China is rich in some resources(资源), we are short of other resources like fresh water. It is said we will have no coal(煤) or oil to use in 100 years. Also there is not enough food in some areas. So if we keep our resources, what can we use in future and where can we move? Think about it, I think we should say "no" to the people waste things every day.
In our life, we can do many things to stop waste from happening. For example, remember to turn the lights when we leave the room and we'd better use both of paper. Also we should try not to order food than we need. Little by little, everything will be changed, waste can be stopped one day we do our best.
How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous or frightened when you're around other people. Experts (专家) (find)that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.
It's OK if it takes you a while ( feel )yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody (get) a little shy sometimes. It's just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they (not go) to a restaurant because they are too nervous ( order) and pay the bill(账单). Some are afraid of (meet) new people, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn't stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn't a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are quieter and cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history (be)shy, too.
You see, being shy isn't all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There's nothing to be afraid of.
Do you think “rock, paper, scissors(剪刀)” is a children's game? Think again.
Top players from the world came together in Toronto to compete for a 10,000-Canadian-dollar prize and the title of World Champion(世界冠军头衔).More 500 players, including national champions from Australia, Norway New Zealand, attended.
The simple game is often used to make decisions and solve simple . Players hold their fists closed and count three before making a fist (rock), a flat hand (paper) or two fingers (scissors).Paper covers rock, scissors paper and rock breaks scissors.
Players have different opinions about the history of the game, but it is commonly believed to have been played centuries in Japan. The Paper Scissors Stone Club opened in England in 1842 and could play together there. In 1918, the name was to World RPS Club and its headquarters (总部) moved London to Toronto.
Have you been working hard to get your dream to come true? Have you ever experienced failure? What would you do if you ? Many people may choose to give up, like a middle school student is called Zhang Ming did first. Last year, Zhang Ming didn't pass the final exams. He began hating studying. He was so disappointed he played computer games all day. His parents were angry with him. They took him see a psychologist(心理学家) many times. The psychologist and the teachers gave him some on how to help him overcome himself. the help of his parents, the teachers and the kind people around him, he made much in his study. At last he a key senior middle school.
However, the best way to success is to keep your direction and keep on your goal. On your way to have a life, you must keep your direction. It is just like a lamp, guiding you in darkness and helping you overcome on your way. Otherwise, you will easily get lost. Direction means objective(目标). You can get nowhere without an objective in life. You can try to write your objectives on paper and make some plans to achieve . In this way, you will know how to arrange your time and to spend your time properly.
Life as Chopsticks
Right now, more and more people are digging into their food with sticks which are called chopsticks.Even people eating with knives and begin to love them. Why are they so special? they have deep influence in many people's ways of life.
Simple. There's nothing simpler chopsticks. Also the chopsticks don't cost much. In real life, we don't need to keep improving things all the time.Aim(目的).When using chopsticks, you can not pick up everything each time. Know you want and just do it. Sometimes, a little bit of focus makes the difference between failure and .
Practice.Using chopsticks doesn't come naturally. You have to learn to use them and it. There's no better way than to practice. In real life, you may have many things you want to do, but it will be a dream you don't try doing it.
Slowing down. Eating with chopsticks can slow you down. It provides you enough time to know yourself. It also warns your brain of your full stomach, so you will not overeat(吃过饱). In our life, we sometimes need slow down to have time to think, to realize that we're actually full and don't have to hurry through life.
When people hear the word “stress”, they usually think of something bad. , stress is good for the body and mind sometimes. First, people may feel stressed there is something important to do. For example, some are stressed before an important exam. The stress might make them feel , but this kind of stress can help people work efficiently(高效地) to meet their goals. Second, stress can keep us . Scientists find a little stress can make the immune system(免疫系统) stronger. When your body learns to respond(反应) to some stress, it's able to protect you illness., stress may help us respond to . If you see a car coming around the corner too fast, this stress sends a message warn your brain of danger, allowing your body to respond quickly. Without the stress, you may not jump out of the car's way.
Of course, too much stress is to our bodies and minds. But the right amount of stress makes us healthier and safer.
The American think a lot about time. They learn time. As children , they are to be on time to go to school , to do work and to do everything by their parents. When they are having a good time , they say that time is . If a person is dying, then he is living on borrowed time.
Time is both money knowledge. Time is everything in America. A working American has to work hard for eight a day. This is working time. In his free time, he also works hard for money. Even Saturday and Sunday are filled activities. In the street you can hardly see a man walks slowly. They walk very fast. In fact, they are running. They love time time brings them money, comforts and progress. sometimes they also hate time, for they have become servants of the clock.
Wang Feng is one of the most famous rock stars in China. I love his music even though I can speak very Chinese. Of course, I look the English translations of his songs on the website so I can understand their meanings.
Wang Feng was in a musical family on June 29, 1971 in Beijing. He started playing the violin when he is five. In 1994, he built up the band No.43 BaojiaStreet. Unluckily, the band finally up and Wang Feng started his solo career(独唱生涯).
Wang Feng writes his own songs. He once wrote a beautiful song OurDreamforBeijingOlympics in 2008. In this song he described how happy the Chinese people felt to the Olympics.
