For years I went to school by bus. The first time on the bus. I saw different faces. I greeted them and cold faces 1 smiling faces. As the days went on, we talked like old friends.
But it was a pity(遗憾) that I was 2 to set up the same friendship with a quiet girl in the front of the bus. 3 old clothes showed that she didn't have much money. She always took a cup of water for the driver. I guessed she was a 4 girl. But why didn't she talk with us? Why did she never reply to our friendly greetings?
Then, one evening, I got the 5. I walked to the park near my home and found the girl sitting alone under a tree. I greeted her 6 the same warm smile that I had shown to her all these months. To my surprise, this time she 7 back. As soon as she began her first word, I 8 why she hadn't spoken to us before. Talking was hard for her.
She told me. "I 9 speak very well. Most of the time. I have trouble expressing myself. I have no friends. But you always smile at me, so I 10 want to smile." That evening, we talked a lot.
Yesterday was a memorable day for me. I went to a photo workshop and asked to edit a photo. The shop owner listened to my requirements and led me into a room. There what I saw made me kind of shocked.
In the room stood-a middle-aged man with twisted(变形的) hands. He was holding a camera in a very professional manner.
I told him my requirements and he replied in a very confident voice, "You just sit comfortably. I will deal with everything." It wasn't at all matching his physical looks. I thought.
I did what he said, and within 5 to 7 minutes, he clicked my photo, retouched(修饰)it carefully, cut it into required pieces and handed it over to me.
I was really amazed to see his perfect behavior-he was so quick and confident. I thanked him and had a nice talk with him. He said he loved his job very much. It allowed him to meet different people and of course make a living. Though he was still unmarried, he was sure he was able to find his best half.
As a disabled person, he could have led his life depending on others. However, he chose to depend on himself and always be confident in himself. He really inspired (激励)me.
Travelling around the world is many people's dream. It is a great way for people to see new places, meet new people and learn new cultures. However, you may have some trouble during the trip if you don't know the local customs(习俗)or the language. Some people would like to try using gestures to "talk with" the local people. That is to say, they tell others their thoughts by moving their hands or body parts.
Gestures are useful but every country is different in the way their people communicate with each other. So a gesture may be OK in one country but not OK in another.
Recently, a company has created a series of useful pictures of gestures around the world, hoping to help people understand different meanings of the gestures in different cultures and avoid making silly mistakes. Just take the "OK" sign for example. In China, we use it when we want to say everything is all right. However, in other countries such as Greece, Spain or Brazil, people see me "OK" sign as very rude. What's more, in some Middle East countries such as Kuwait, me sign stands for the evil(邪恶的) eye.
Many students may feel nervous and have trouble communicating with others. They write to us to ask for advice. Here are some of their questions and our answers.
How can I speak English fluently?
Try to speak clearly. Practise it as much as possible. Talk in English with others whenever you get the chance. Watch English TV shows and movies. Read books, magazines, and newspapers in English.
Why is it important to develop communication skills?
Communication skills are important in everyday life. You will need them in order to get a job and buy the things you need. You will also need them to develop good relationships with your friends, family members, or romantic partners.
How can I get over my fear of speaking?
Practise speaking to yourself in front of a mirror for a period of time. Say the words aloud and act as if you are speaking to another person. It might feel silly, but it will make you feel relaxed and not afraid of speaking. When you are speaking to a group of people, be confident. Take deep breaths and speak slowly.
How can I make a good impression on people that I communicate with?
When you speak, do remember to smile and make eye contact. If you've just met people for the first time, give them a firm handshake and tell them it's nice to meet them.
Why should I be a better listener?
If you listen carefully to the speaker, you can understand the important messages the person wants to tell you. Listening properly also helps to prevent conflict and misunderstanding.
A'Layah Robinson lives in Oklahoma, USA. She is only seven years old, but already she has big ideas for helping other kids!
One Saturday morning when A'Layah was five, she noticed some teenagers who had a lemonade stand(柠檬饮料摊位). They wanted to raise money to help some of their friends. A'Layah wanted very much to help kids too, especially foster kids(寄养儿童)! You see, A'Layah and her brother were both foster kids. The little girl's birth mother was a drug addict (吸毒成瘾者), so she was taken to a foster care centre. Luckily, she finally found a forever home in the Robinson family.
But A'Layah still couldn't forget the day when her brother came to live with them. She felt sad that he only had old clothes and shoes that were too small. She thought maybe she could help with a lemonade stand! That way she could raise money so that other foster kids could have a toy and a few other things of their own.
A'Layah's first lemonade stand made $132! A'Layah was so excited to go with her mother to buy things for the foster kids. She decided they should have a toy, a toothbrush, a blanket and a book. Her first donation(捐赠物) was for 24 kids!
A'Layah wanted to help more kids, so her mum helped her start a charity called A'Layah's Lemonade for Love. Till now, it has already raised over$17, 000! A'Layah hopes someday she will be able to send a toy to every kid in foster care.
On May 5, 2017, China's home-made passenger aircraft(飞机) C919 completed its 90-minute first flight and landed safely back at Pudong Airport in Shanghai.
C919 is developed by COMAC, a Chinese aircraft company. It is designed to compete with Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. The first C919 aircraft can carry 168 passengers and is able to fly a distance between 4,075 and 5,555 kilometres. It's reported that a C919 costs around 50 million dollars, less than half of a Boeing 737 or an Airbus A320. Up to now, more than 570 aircrafts have been ordered from 23 customers, mostly Chinese, but also American and Thai companies or airlines. COMAC aims to take one fifth of the world's narrow-body aircraft market and one third of the Chinese market by 2035.
The name C919 has its special meanings. The letter C stands for both "COMAC" and "China". The number 9 is pronounced as "jiu" in Chinese, which means "forever". And me number 19 refers to its capacity(容量) of 190 passengers.
The large passenger aircraft is praised as "the flower of modern industry". It is a symbol of the nation's industrial and technological standards as well as the comprehensive(综合的) power. In order to realize the century dream of flying in the sky and the strategy(战略)of the nation, COMAC bears the nation's dream and people's trust. China considers it as a national pride.

Sarah didn't realize that she had given Billy not only all her change but also her diamond ring until the next morning. She and her husband, Bill Krejci, rushed to see if they could (find) Billy.
