Kites all have long strings(绳子). They keep kites from flying away. Kites can fly up high with a good wind. Each of them always has a tail. It makes the kite beautiful and balanced(平稳的).

Kites weren't just for fun. People also used them to do many other things. Before planes came out, some people put cameras on kites to take photos. 100 years ago some Americans used kites to learn about weather. Later some people used them for fishing.
How to fly
Never fly kites in the street or on the road. We can find a big playground or an open place. When we fly kites, we should be far away from wires(电线). If our kites are in a tree, don't climb to get it. Maybe we'll fall off. Ask our parents for help.

How much physical(身体的)activity do you do? In the past, your grandparents walked miles to school or to work. They cut wood, carried water or heavy things, washed clothes, worked in the fields, etc. Now we have washing machines, cars and buses. Most of us don't grow vegetables, and parents usually drive their kids wherever they want to go. But your body was designed(被设计)for physical activity, and without enough exercise it starts to slow down and become unhealthy. There are some ways to do physical activity for free.
Climb stairs instead of(而不是)using lifts.
Walk or ride your bike to school(Don't ask your mum or dad to drive you to school).
Play games after class or after school.
Practise skills like running, catching, throwing，kicking, hitting，or bouncing a ball.
Walk when you talk with a friend, instead of sitting down talking.
Walk or run with the dog(If you haven't got one, borrow one from a neighbour).
Make and fly a kite.
What other ideas can you come up with? You can do a lot of these things by yourself. There are lots of other things that you can do. They may cost some money, and you will have to keep that time free.
Maria lived near a forest. She often played with the animals in the forest. They were all her friends.
One day, Maria walked into the forest to play with her animal friends. But to her surprise, the forest was very quiet and the animals weren't there! Maria hurried back to tell her parents. Her parents returned to the forest with Maria. The forest was still very quiet. But Maria's father noticed a little monkey behind a big tree. The monkey was dying (快要死的)！They tried to save him. But the monkey was too weak. Before he died, the monkey told them the truth(真相)：a ghost wanted to get the forest, so he asked all the animals to go away.
Maria and her parents were very angry. They decided to drive the ghost away. They asked their friends and neighbours to help them. The ghost was strong but the people were stronger. At last, the ghost left and the animals returned to the forest happily.
Walt Disney was born in Chicago, America, in 1901. He enjoyed drawing. He was very poor. He drew pictures in his father's garage(车库). One day a mouse came into the garage and played on the floor. Disney gave him some bread. Then the mouse came up and sat on his desk. In this way, the mouse and the poor artist became good friends.
Later Disney went to Hollywood. He worked very hard, but he was not famous to many people. One day he remembered the mouse. “I will draw that mouse, ”he said to himself. “I hope every child in this country will like my mouse. ”
He drew many pictures of the mouse. Soon Mickey Mouse was famous all over the world. And the name of Walt Disney was known to many people in the world, too. Disneyland is the world's greatest park for children.
