I have two daughters and one son. They are Mary. Laura and Eric. Mary is seven. Laura and Eric are five. They watch a lot of television, maybe five hours a day.
I'm worried that it's too much. Should I limit(限制) their screen time?

The American Academy of Pediatrics(APP,美国科学会) says that older kids shouldn't watch more than1-2 hours of television every day, and that kids under the age of two should not watch any television. The shows kids watch should be educational. All in all, television shouldn't be a substitute(替代物)for activities like playing with friends, exercising or reading.
"I hate myself!" I cried to my mother. "I'm fat, I'm ugly, I'm stupid, and I feel silly!" I was only ten years old and in the fourth grade. This was the first time I could say my worries about my appearance to anyone…
This is what Katherine wrote in the first part of her new book, Rock What You've Got. Katherine is now a student at the University of Southern California. This is her first book.
Like most common girls, Katherine had worries about her size and shape when she was a younger girl. That made her very unhappy. In the book, she says when she grows up, she finds out that what really makes her happy is not how fit she looks, but how much she loves.
Katherine also wants to encourage(鼓励)them to love their bodies, love themselves, stay healthy, and most of all, be confident.
We have known for a long time that flowers of different plants open and close at different times of a day. Yet no one really understands why flowers open and close like that at special times. The question is not as simple as we might think, as recent experiments have shown. In one experiment, flowers were kept in complete darkness all the time. We might expect that the flowers, without any information about the day, did not open as they usually do. In fact, they continued to open at the usual time. This has shown that they have some special ways of knowing the time.
Their sense of time does not depend on the information from the outside world. It is inside them a kind of "inner clock". This discovery may not seem to be very important. However, it is later found that not just plants but animals including man have this "inner clock" which controls the working of their bodies and influences their activities. Human beings, then, are also influenced by the mysterious power. Whether we wish or not, it affects such things in our life as our need for sleep or food.
Inside the great hall of the private school in Beijing, a lot of yellow T-shirts filled all the seats. They were young people from different parts of the world.
In search of Chinese traditional excellence, more than 800 young Chinese from nearly 20 countries in Asia, America and Europe took part in a one-week Root-seeking Summer Camp from August 3 to 10.
The Root-seeking Summer Camp began in 1999 and has become an important event to attract overseas Chinese children to visit China. "I hope my boy can learn some Chinese traditions and values(价值观)by joining this summer camp," said Wu Ziwei, who has been living in the United States for 12 years.
"Some of the US-born Chinese can't understand the Chinese culture," Wu said. Now, his 20-year-old daughter is learning Wushu. "Unlike popular culture, traditional culture is very valuable. It is something that will never be replaced," he said.
Most of the children are too young to know what "root-seeking" means, but a trip to China is very rewarding, because the young overseas Chinese can at least make friends and get some ideas of what China is like.

A boy lost his arms in an accident and his father lost his life. Since then,he had to 1 the arms of his younger brother. Except for writing with his toes(脚趾头),he could hardly do 2 in his life.As the two brothers grew up together, they had lots of 3 and they often argued. Then one day, his younger brother 4 him. So he was very sad and didn't know 5 to do.
A girl lost her hands 6 a fire. Though her elder sister wanted to 7 her, she decided to do everything by herself. At school, she always studied hard. Once she wrote the following in her article,“I am 8 though I lost my hands, I still have legs. Though my wings(翅膀)are broken,my heart can still fly.”
One day, a 9 invited both of the boy and the girl to a television interview program. He asked them 10 something on a piece of paper with their toes. The boy wrote“My younger brother's arms are my arms.” while the girl wrote “Broken wings, flying heart.”.
Thomas Edison was an American inventor. When he was 7 years old, his mother had Appendectomy (阑尾切除术). But it was too dark. So Edison put mirrors near oil lamps (light)up the room.
The story is in a Chinese textbook for primary school students by People's Education Press. But the publisher(出版社)(recent)said it will cut out this story. That's because many people it's not true. Many believe that the world's first appendectomy was in 1886. But when Edison was 7, it was 1854.
The publisher also said it will not use some other stories. For example, there's story about the first US President George Washington. The story says young Washington (cut)down a cherry tree in the yard of his house. But fact, there was no cherry tree in the area at that time.
So what's the problem? Experts say that some editors care too about the educational meaning of a story and fail to check (one)if the story is true.
The publisher says, in the future, they will pay greater attention to the (true)of the stories in the textbook. "We will invite experts(专家)check our stories," it said in a statement.
Dear Li Ming,
For the coming winter vacation(寒假), my family and I want to spend our vacation in a place for seven days. We would like to go somewhere in China not only warm but also interesting. We don't mind how far we have to go. It has to be a place where we can swim every day, and it would be nice if our hotel is not expensive but clean and comfortable. We like to pay no more than ¥6000 for the trip. Could you please give us your suggestions(建议)for vacation spots(景点)?
Thanks a lot.
Yours,
Robert
