Which animal do you think is "the king of the animals", the elephant, the lion or the tiger? They are all large and strong. But I think the tiger is "the king of the animals". If you watch carefully, you can find some black lines on the tiger's forehead. The lines look like the Chinese word "WANG". The word means "the king of the world" in Chinese.
Most of the tigers come from China and India. Tigers are dangerous animals. They look scary. They like eating meat. They have yellow fur with black lines. They usually weigh about 200 to 300 kg. Tigers can run fast. They run at a speed of 20 metres per second.
Some people think they are dangerous. But they don't know tigers are in danger now. There are only 20 to 30 wild Siberian Tigers in China and fewer than 300 in the world. Lots of people kill them for their fur. We should take measures to protect them.
Like most of her friends, Georgie Sanderson has 24-houpa-day access(使用权) to technology through her mobile phone, iPod Touch and home computer. But the 15-year-old girl says she is too busy to spend her days on Facebook. She only uses it once or twice a day. "The 10th grade is busy, and I have to work hard. Even when I'm not studying, I have better things to do with my time, such as being outside or spending time with my friends," she says. Georgie has a part-time job. She watches TV for a while in the afternoon and she helps with the housework.
Georgie's words prove the findings of a new report. According to the report, teenagers today are not completely dominated(支配) by technology, although they have been into a digital(数字) world. They spend most of their time on their homework, TV, part-time jobs, hobbies, sports, friendship or reading instead of playing or chatting on the computer. But the report also finds that mobile phones are important to teenagers. 95 percent of 18 year-olds have got one mobile phone, and 82 percent sleep with their mobile phones on and beside them all night.
For Georgie, sleep is more important than texting others. Georgie is also careful about the use of IT. She says, "Social media is helpful, but it is so distracting(使人分心的). I only use it when I do need to use it."
Water is very important to us. We cannot live without it.
There is a lot of water on the Earth, but we cannot use most of it. About 97. 5% of the Earth's water is salty. Most of the fresh water is snow and ice near the North and South Poles(极).
We can only use less than one per cent of the water on the Earth. We use water from both lakes and rivers. Some of the water evaporates and then becomes rain. Of course we use rain water for farms and other things. We use this water again and again.
Sometimes the Earth's water is in the wrong place. There is a lot of rain in the tropics(热带地区)，but it is difficult to have farms in the tropics. Most of the land there is not very rich. Some desert land is rich, but there is only a little water in the desert.
Water is a problem for many people in the world.
The undersea world is very beautiful. Now more and more people want to dive in the sea to find the secrets there.
There are many strange animals in the sea. Some are as large as a school bus. Many sea animals give out light in the dark. Many fish have no eyes while some have big eyes. A few have eyes on one side of their heads.
During the day, there is enough light. Everything under the sea looks green and blue. But the deep sea is not an easy place to stay in. So you must be very careful when you dive in deep water. It's cold, and it's dark too. The deeper it is, the less sunlight there is. At about 3,000 feet deep, there is no light at all.
Besides the cold and the darkness, deep-sea animals face a third danger-other animals! They must find food to eat. Many animals eat plants. However, some animals eat meat. This means these sea animals have two big jobs. They need to find animals as food, and they have to try not to become other animals' meal.
The class teacher thought that hobbies were important to children. So she encouraged all her students to have one, and sometimes she arranged hobby shows for their parents to see.
One morning the teacher told the class to have a holiday and get their hobby things to school before 5:00 p. m. A hobby show would be held the following afternoon.
So in the afternoon, the students with nothing to show did their lessons at school as usual, while the lucky ones had a holiday to go home for their hobby works.
When the afternoon lessons began, the teacher was surprised to see that Tommy was not there. "I don't believe Tommy has a hobby, "she thought. However, at a quarter to five, Tommy arrived with a beautiful collection of butterflies(蝴蝶) in a glass case. The teacher liked the samples（标本） very much and put them on a desk in the classroom. But, to her surprise, Tommy picked them up again and began to leave.
"What are you doing, Tommy? "she asked. "Those things must stay here until tomorrow afternoon. That's when the parents are coming to see them. "

"But, aren't the butterflies yours?" asked the teacher.
"No," answered Tommy." They are my brother's."
"But Tommy, you should show your own hobby here, not somebody else's!"
"I know that, "answered Tommy. What surprised her most was the answer, "My hobby is watching my brother collecting butterflies."
