When talking about inventors, who do you first think of? Forget Thomas Edison. Meet the teenage 1 at the 24th Jiangsu Adolescents Science &. Technology Innovation Contest(江苏青少年科技创新大赛).
Wang Xingyu, from Kunshan No. 2 Middle School, invented "a 2 line" in the zebra crossing. Wang often saw people running through
the red 3 , so he thought of an idea,
"I 4 a spray tube(喷管) in the zebra crossing. When the light is red and 5 crosses, it sprays water. If the light is 6, it will not work," said Wang.
But does it 7 water? "There's a water channel(槽) on the ground, so the water will be collected and 8 again," he said. Zong Hangchen, from Nantong Special Education Middle School, also got his invention idea from daily experience.
Zong's 9 could only feel a little light. When he walked on the sidewalk for the blind, he often came across obstacles(障碍物). Once he 10 hurt his nose.
11 help himself and the blind, Zong made something that has radar(雷达) and a loudspeaker. Users tie radar onto their knees and 12 the loudspeaker around their necks. When they meet obstacles, the radar will see them and the loudspeaker will make a 13 to tell the users.
Chen Huijuan, an official from Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, was 14 at these inventions.
15 some ideas are simple, the creations are very good," she said. "Get inspiration( 灵感) from small things in life and you can be an, inventor, too.
We all know that many inventions have changed our life a lot. They play important roles in our daily life. Here are some interesting inventions.

The main difference between China and Western countries on the dinner table is chopsticks instead of a knife and fork, but that's just a small difference. Besides, in decent(像样的) restaurants, you can always ask for a knife and fork, if you find the chopsticks not helpful enough. The real difference is that in the West, you have your own plate of food, while in China the dishes are placed on the table and everyone shares. If you are being treated to a formal(正式的) dinner and particularly if the host thinks you're in the country for the first time, he will do his best to give you a taste of many different types of dishes. The meal usually begins with a set of at least four cold dishes, followed by the main courses of hot meat and vegetable dishes. Soup will then be served (unless it is a Guangdong-style restaurant), followed by rice, noodles or dumplings. Perhaps one of the things that surprise a Western visitor most is that some of the Chinese hosts like to put food onto their guests' plates. In formal dinners, there are always "public" chopsticks and spoons for this purpose, but some hosts may use their own chopsticks. This is a sign of real friendship and politeness. It is always polite to eat the food. If you do not eat it, just leave the food on the plate. People in China tend to over-order food, for they will find it embarrassing(令人尴尬的) if all the food is consumed(吃光). When you have had enough, just say so, or you will always overeat!

I have just finished reading the lovely book called Daddy Long Legs written by Jean Webster.
Judy was a girl who was always positive about life though she was an orphan(孤儿) living in a small village for 18 years. Then one day a man came and decided to send her to college, which later totally changed Judy's life. He asked Judy to write him a letter once a month to tell him what she had learned at school. But he would never reply to her letter. The different life between the village and the college made Judy fully realize the beauty of life and she cherished every moment of her life. She never asked too much about life. Her only quarrel (争吵) with life was that time ran too fast. She caught up with other classmates so quickly although she had a quite different childhood from them, which at first did cause her a lot of trouble. The story of Judy was told in the form of letters which were also written by Judy herself. When I was reading the letters, I was touched by Judy's character.
I am wondering whether you have ever read it and I am sure that you will be deeply moved by the unexpected and romantic ending if you are a teenage girl. In a word, Daddy Long Legs is worth reading.

The bicycle is one of the simplest and most useful inventions in the world. What is most surprising is that it was not (发明) earlier, although the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci had drawn pictures of bicycles and also of flying machines and some other things. Those things were not produced until long after he (死).
A person riding a bicycle uses a little energy to make the bicycle (移动), and there is no (污染) at all when you are riding. Even so, in (发达的) countries, most people don' t travel to work by bicycle. It is not because the bicycles are expensive or people feel (疲劳的) if they ride to work. It's because the number of cars on the roads becomes (更大的). It certainly becomes more (危险的) to ride a bicycle.
As a result, more people put their bikes away and go to work in their cars, and in this way, the situation is made more serious. Perhaps the best way to make riding safer and more popular is to (创造) paths only for bicycles, and to make it so difficult and expensive for (驾驶员) to take their cars into the city that they will go back to using their bicycles.
Since computers were (invent) in the US in 1946, they have become very important in many areas(领域). There is no doubt(毋庸置疑) that computers are very (use) in technology and business. In space, computers have been used to control the speed and direction of a spaceship. the help of computers, doctors can find diseases(疾病) easily and solve other problems. For example, tiny computers which are inside patients' bodies can keep hearts beating normally. In factories, robots are controlled by computers that are human brains. They can do work that is (danger) to humans. In business, computers are used to place and cancel (取消) orders. They are also making the workplace safer and (good).
Since the Internet came into being, people'
s (life) at home have been changed, too. More and more people have (person) computers that are used to play games and watch movies. Thanks to the Internet, people can do shopping and do business at home. Instead of writing letters on paper, people communicate sending e- mails and chatting online. The whole world is connected. The Internet is making the world smaller, like a village.
I've got a collection of terrible ' mistakes' in my wardrobe. I have never worn them! But I don't mind going shopping with my girlfriend, because she helps me choose. I think women are better at buying clothes than men. They've got better taste and they always know what's in fashion.
You shouldn't be afraid of her. Maybe she's just as shy as you. What about giving her a red rose and a short message? Say something like “I'd really like to know you but I don't know how." She'll probably be excited to know she's got a fan!
Jane usually travels for 2 hours at most and then she can have a rest for at least 3 hours. She meets a lot of interesting people from all over the world. She says she likes it because she doesn't have to work full-time, she can spend more time with our three children and me.
When Mrs. Poor got into the lift, she was carrying only a handbag. After a while, the lift stopped between floors. She shouted and shouted, and rang the alarm, but nobody heard her.
I've known her for four years and I really like her. But she always copies everything I do. If I buy some new clothes, the next day she'll go out and buy exactly the same ones. It's the same with music, films, even my friends! What should I do?
A. Talking about shopping B. Getting into trouble C. Talking about one's problems D. Talking about one's job E. Showing love to a girl |
