The seasons on Earth
The Earth that we live on is moving all the time. The Earth turns around itself once every 24 hours. This gives us day and night. The Earth also travels around the Sun once every year. This gives us the four seasons. We have spring and summer when our part of the Earth leans (倾斜) towards the Sun. We have autumn and winter when our part of the Earth leans away from the Sun.
In many places on Earth, there are four seasons in a year. But in some places there are only two seasons. For example, near the North Pole (北极) there are only winter and summer. The winter nights are long. For more than two months you can't see the Sun, even at noon. The summer days are long. For more than two months the Sun never sets, and there is no night. In the tropics (热带地区) there are also two seasons: a rainy season (wet season) and a dry season.
The Earth is about 4, 600 million years old Man lives on the Earth for only 35, 000 years. But we change our Earth in many ways. Many things we do are good, but some are not good for the Earth.
Water pollution
A lot of people, birds and fish die each day because of water pollution. Factories pollute the water. As a result (因此), the water in many rivers and lakes is now very dirty.
Air pollution
In big cities, factories, cars and buses are the main causes of air pollution. Many people in cities now have health problems. For example, Mexico City used to be a beautiful sunny capital, but today there are many clouds in the sky. And many people get ill because of the polluted air.
Soil (土壤) pollution
In order to have a better harvest (收获), some of the farmers use chemicals too much in their fields. That's bad for the soil.
Hope for the future
These problems are very serious for our future, so all of us should do something to protect the environment. If we can stop pollution, our Earth will become more and more beautiful.
A long time ago, people thought that the Sun went round the Earth. In some countries people even said that the Sun was a god (神). They thought the god drove across the sky each day on a golden horse. Now we know the Earth goes round the Sun. It takes the Earth a year to go all way round the Sun. Today men even know how far it is for the Earth to go round the Sun. They tell us that the Earth travels over a thousand miles a minute on its journey round the Sun.
The Sun is really a star. It is much bigger than the Earth and it is very hot. Some people have been to the Moon but we know that no one can ever go to the Sun. It is far too hot for people to live anywhere near it. The Sun is about three hundred thousand times heavier than the Earth and more than a million times larger.
Life is like the four seasons. Now I am very old, but when I was young, it was the spring of my life. I was born. I played a lot, and then I went to school. I learned many new things. There were happy days and sorrowful days: some days the Sun shone, and some days it didn't.
At the age of twenty, I had a good job. I was strong and happy. Then I got married and had a child. During those days, I didn't have much time to think. Every day I was busy and worked very hard. And so, I started to get some white hair. The summer of my life passed quickly. Then the days got shorter. Leaves fell from the trees. My child was a university student, and then an engineer. My home was much quieter. I started walking more slowly. One day I stopped working. I had more time. I understood this was my autumn, a beautiful time when the trees changed their colours and gave us delicious fruit. But the days kept getting shorter and colder. Winter has come. I am older and weaker. I know I do not have many days left, but I will enjoy them till the end.
Australia is not hot all year round. Remember the seasons are different between China and Australia. This means:

●If it's winter in China, it's summer in Australia.

So the hottest months in Australia are December, January and February. In these months, you may want to go to the southern countries to escape the hot weather. The coldest months are June, July and August—a perfect time to visit here. When the wet season runs in many of the northern countries from November to April, Townsville (汤斯维尔) in Australia also has a wet season. But it is shorter, usually from December to the end of March. From June to August, the capitals in the southern part of the world usually receive their heaviest rainfall (降雨量).

I'm a member of the Bird Club of our school. I often take part different kinds of activities in this club. Through these activities, I can always enjoy the natural beauty I can learn a lot about birds. Last Sunday, I watched birds (without) my friends in Yuexiu Park. I was very excited that day. I got up very early that morning and packed my (food) and camera. After breakfast, I left home (quick). Soon I arrived at the park. I saw (lot) of birds in the trees. I took some (photo) of them with my camera. I really enjoyed (my) there. At noon, I had wonderful picnic with my friends. We were very tired that day, but we felt very happy. I think nature is (real) wonderful and I love it very much.
