Professor Jonathan Wong of the Department of Biology takes part, in low-carbon (低碳) living projects. Here, he tells us how we can lead a low-carbon life by paying 1to how we dress, eat and 2 Here are his words.
Wear “out”
I prefer simple clothing and buy new 3only when I really need them. I don't mind using the same clothes for more than 10 years. My family members never4 their clothes in the trash. We donate (捐赠)them, instead. If the clothes are really worn out, we cut them into 5and use them as cleaning rags(抹布) for the floor.
Simple eating habits
My family eat more vegetables and 6 meat. I often tell my children not to eat junk food. Our7 style is mainly steaming (蒸) or boiling because this is a healthier way. It is also a way to8energy.
Live on less energy
I also pay attention to the use of electricity. My family members are already in the habit of 9lights when leaving a room. When we take a bath, we will set the water 10 to around 40℃. All these things are good for saving energy.
We hope that everyone can do something to protect the environment and save the energy.

“Class, tomorrow I want you to boring a cup of macaroni(通心粉) for our craft class, OK?"
I was afraid of the next day because I knew we had no macaroni at home. Living in an alcoholicenvironment, we never had too much of anything except beer bottles.
I went home after school: I knew that the local bottle shop gave ten cents for a beer bottle, so I decided to sell some bottles to get money for macaroni.
I started collecting the bottles and sold them. I earned eighty cents. Although I did my best, I still had no macaroni for my craft class.
"Weren't you listening when I asked you to bring it, John?" my teacher asked.
I was embarrassed. I didn't know what to say and other children started laughing. Then a little girl, Rosalyn, who sat beside me turned to me and said, “You can have some of mine." She gave some macaroni to me.
I didn't take her macaroni or say thanks to her. However, I felt thankful for her kindness. Once, my life was full of anger arid hurt. I kept kind people like Rosalyn away, but after that class, I changed my attitude. I thanked all the people like Rosalyn that made this world a better place to live in.

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa (located in Italy today). He was first taken to the sea when he was 14 years old. In 1479, he met his brother Bartolomeo, a mapmaker, in Lisbon. He later married Filipa Moniz Perestrello and in 1480, his son Diego was born. The family stayed in Lisbon until 1485, when Columbus' s wife Filipa died.
On August 3, 1492, Columbus set sail with three ships, the Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria, and 104 men. After a short stop at the Canary Islands, the ships set out across the Atlantic. This voyage took five weeks - much longer than Columbus expected, as he thought the world was smaller than it is. During this time, many of the members got diseases and died, or died of hunger and thirst.
Finally, at 2:00 a.m. on October 12, 1492, Rodrigo de Triana saw land. When Columbus reached the land, he believed it was an Asian island and named it San Salvador. Because he did not find treasure, Columbus decided to continue sailing in search of China. Instead, he ended up visiting Cuba and Hispaniola.
On Christmas Day, Columbus's Santa Maria wrecked (失事) off the coast of Hispaniola. Because there was only a little space on the Nina, Columbus had to leave about 40 men behind. Soon after, Columbus set sail for Spain, where he arrived on March 15, 1493, completing his first voyage.
