The term "helicopter parents" refers to "a style of parents who are over focused on their children".
Helicopter parents are always making a big push to provide children with every opportunity to succeed, from baby steps at age 1, homework at age 8, college application at age 18, employment issues at age 25 to family problems at age 30, 40 or even older. They constantly shadow the child, always directing his behavior, allowing him zero alone time.
Helicopter parenting can develop for a number of reasons. Worries about the economy, the job market, and the world in general can push parents toward taking more control over their child's life in an attempt to protect them. Adults who felt unloved or ignored as children can overcompensate their own children. When parents see other overinvolved parents, it can cause a similar response. They feel that if they don't involve themselves in their children's lives, they are bad parents.
The main problem with helicopter parenting is that it can backfire. To give an example, the house where Mary lived with roommates was broken into and things were stolen. Mary called the landlord(房东) to install an alarm system, but before she could finish the negotiations(协商), her mother rushed in and demanded action. "I felt like my mother ruined my communication with our landlord. We could have gotten it done ourselves. She was well intended but only made me feel annoyed and defeated, "says Mary.
Obviously, overparenting is motivated with the idea of doing good things but it does the exact opposite. In the long run parents are actually damaging their children's basic skills to deal with matters independently. It makes the children feel lacking in confidence, less competence in dealing with the stresses of life on their own. They're winning the battle, but actually losing the war.
Chocolate is good for your heart, skin and brain. Usually, people think that chocolate is bad for their health. They describe chocolate as" something to die for" or say" death by chocolate". Now they should bite their tongues! Evidence(证据)is showing that some kinds of chocolate are actually good for you in the following ways:
A happier heart.
Scientists at Harvard University recently examined 136 studies on cocoa—the main ingredient(成分)in chocolate and found that it does seem to strengthen the heart.
Better blood pressure.
Jeffrey Blumberg from Tufts University recently found that people with high blood pressure who ate 3. 5 ounces of dark chocolate per day for two weeks saw their blood pressure drop quickly.
Muscle magic.
Chocolate milk may help you recover after a hard workout(锻炼). In a small study at Indiana University, people who drank chocolate milk between workouts did better on a tiredness test than those who had some sports drinks.
Better for your skin.
German researchers found that chocolate helped protect and increase blood flow to the skin, improving its appearance.
Fireworks(烟花) can add excitement to all kinds of celebrations. However, fireworks can be very dangerous if not handled and used properly. To reduce the risks associated with a firework display, adults need to be aware of firework safety rules, and so do children who are watching. There are some basic rules to follow.
Make sure you are using only legal fireworks. There are reasons for the banning of certain fireworks, such as safety concerns. Explain to your children the dangers of fireworks and give them a written emergency number to call in case something goes wrong, along with the address of your firework display. Fill a bucket with water and have a fire extinguisher(灭火器)on hand.
Never allow your children to light the fireworks. This should be done only by a responsible adult. Move all children to a safe distance from the fireworks and have them remain there until the show is finished. Make sure the fireworks are set off pointing to the sky and not to the side. To prevent injuries, it is important that the fireworks are never thrown or held in a person's hands while being lit. Because fireworks are very loud, you may want to place earmuffs(耳罩)on young children.
When the firework display is finished, there will be a lot of debris(残骸)to pick up. If there are any fireworks that do not light properly, wait at least fifteen minutes before you get close. Place the faulty fireworks and the firework debris into a bucket of water. This will ensure that none of them will relight. Put all unused fireworks and lighters far out of the reach of children so they can't try to light them. Remember that safety comes first!

I know I should have told the headmaster at the time. That was my real 1. He had gone out of the study for some 2, leaving me alone. In his absence I looked to see 3 was on his desk. In the 4 was a small piece of paper on which were written the5 “English Writing Prize: History Is a Series of Biographies(人物传记). ”
A(n)6 boy would have avoided looking at the title as soon as he saw the 7. I did not. The subject of the English Writing Prize was kept a 8 until the start of the exam, so I could not 9 reading it.
When the headmaster 10, I was looking out of the window.
I should have told him what had 11 then. It would have been so 12 to say, “I'm sorry but I 13 the title for the English Writing Prize on your desk. You'll have to 14it. ”
The chance passed and I did not 15 it. I sat the exam the next day and I won. I didn't mean to cheat, but it was still cheating 16.
That was thirty-eight years 17 when I was fifteen. I have never told anyone about it before, nor have I 18 to explain to myself why not.
The obvious explanation is that I could not admit I had seen the title 19 admitting that I had been looking at the things on his desk. 20 there must have been more behind it. Whatever it was, it has become a good example of how a little mistake can trap you in a more serious moral corner(道德困境).
Summer is coming. The weather becomes hotter and hotter. A lot of people like swimming in the swimming pools or in the sea. They think water makes them (feel)cool. But some people are not careful enough. They often think they can swim (good) than others and they don't have to worry about anything. So these years, many accidents happened and some people (lose) their lives. Most of them were students. As we all know, (safe) is the most important. Do you know to protect yourself?(protect)yourself, you must be careful. Remember not to swim in a (danger) place. Don't swim alone, and you see a "No Swimming" sign, don't swim, either. Of course, you can swim someone who can keep you safe. If you remember these, swimming(be)safer.
