A learn English over the radio, on television, or in . One must work hard to learn another language. Why do all these people want to learn English? It is to answer that question. Many boys and girls learn English at school because it is one of subjects. They study their language and Maths and English...Some people learn English because it is for their work. Many people often learn English for their studies, because at college or some of their books are in English. Other people learn English because they want to read newspapers and magazines in English.
Mrs. White is worried about her weight, so she goes to see a doctor. "Oh, I'm too fat, I need to lose a lot of weight." "It isn't difficult to lose weight," the doctor says.
"All you need to do is go on a diet. I'll give you a method. "The doctor takes out a piece of paper and writes, "Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Also, eat a lot of lean meat and grains." The doctor gives the paper to Mrs. White. "Eat all those things and you'll soon lose weight."
A few weeks later, Mrs. White's friend visits her. Her friend sees that Mrs. White is even fatter than before. She is eating a huge sandwich with chocolate and ice cream now. "I thought you were on a diet," her friend says. "Oh, I am." Mrs. White answers. "I've already had all the food on my diet today. Now I'm having my dinner."
A Difficult Question
Four girls go to school every day by taxi. One day one of the girls said, "There is a test this morning, let's get to school late. Then we will not have to take the test." "What can we say to the teacher?" One of the girls said. "He'll be angry. We'll need a good reason." The girl thought for several minutes, then one of them said, "Let's tell him that our taxi had a flat tyre." "That's a good idea," the other girl said. "We'll tell him that." They reached school an hour later. The test was already finished." Why are you late?" The teacher asked. "You missed the test." "Our taxi had a flat tyre." One of the girls said. The teacher thought for a moment, then he says, "Sit down." The girls do this.
Then the teacher says, "Write on a piece of paper the answer to this question: Which tyre is flat?" What a difficult question! The girls look at each other sadly. At last they give the different answers.
David is eight. One day his friend Rose says to him, "This Sunday is my birthday. Can you come to my birthday party?" David says, "Yes."
On Sunday, David asks his mother if he can go to the party. His mother says, "Yes, you can go, but you must be polite. Don't ask for any food. They will give you some." "All right, Mum," David answers and he goes to Rose's house on his bike.
There are lots of kids at the party. They play together for some time, and then Rose's mother gives them some food, but she forgets David. He waits and waits and then he takes his plate up and asks Rose's mother, "Do you want a nice clean plate?"
