My dad is very unique(独特的) because of his personality and lifestyle. For example, put his watch on his left hand, even though he's a lefty, and parking his car only in the garage is just his thing and doesn't change.
My father only wears suits during the week because it's something very professional(专业的) and formal. He loves to teach what he knows, from teaching my mother, aunt, and sisters driving skills to teaching his kids vocabulary. Also, whenever he is asked to do something at work, whatever it is, he will always complete the task on time.
My mother buys most of his clothes, as he hates big crowds. In his house, children watch TV only after finishing all the homework, which he believes is the best, because the child does his homework and still stays happy.
One of my father's main focuses(重心) in life is making sure his children grow up the right way like he did.
He grew up with one sister in Chicago. As he got older, he got married to my mother who is three years younger than him.
My dad is a person with many qualities. His personality is just very wonderful to live with. The manners he shows are so good and probably much better than most people. I admire my father and want to be just like him when I grow up.
German chancellor Angela Merkel may look like an ordinary woman. She dresses commonly and doesn't show many feelings. But don't let appearance fool you.
As the first woman chancellor in Germany's history, Merkel has topped Forbes magazine's list of "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women" six times. She has even been compared to Margaret Thatcher and many people call her "Iron Lady".
Merkel was born in Hamburg, West Germany, on 17 July 1954. As a small child, she quickly learnt to speak but it took longer for her to walk. "I was a stupid person when it came to moving," Merkel said. "A normal person could do something naturally, but I had to think about it in my mind and practise." As a teenager, she was the top student in high school. In 1973, Merkel went to the University of Leipzig, where she studied Physics.
At 32, she got her doctor's degree in Physics. She stepped into politics(政坛) in 1989. In her first big political job as Minister for the Environment in 1994, her scientific background and strong will proved very useful. In 2019 she became Germany's chancellor. Through her political career, Merkel's persistence(坚持) and patience helped her a lot." She's bright and openminded," said Hubert Markl, a German biologist. "She is the person who wants to know exactly what is going on, and how never giving up will influence our society and future."
On 14 March 2019, one of science's brightest stars went dark. Stephen Hawking, the worldfamous British scientist, died at 76 in Cambridge, the UK.
Hawking is considered to be the greatest scientist in history since Albert Einstein. He came up with the theory that the universe began with the Big Bang(大爆炸) and will end in black holes. His theories became the base for a lot of later research. He also wrote books to help common people understand the universe. His most famous book is A Brief History of Time, which has sold more than 10 million copies around the world.
Besides his scientific achievements, Hawking was also someone who had a strong will and optimistic attitude. When Hawking was 21, he was diagnosed(诊断) with a serious illness that stopped him from walking and talking. Later in life, he had to sit in a wheelchair and "speak" using a computerized voice. But this didn't stop him from living a meaningful and colourful life. "If one is physically disabled, one cannot afford to be psychologically(心理上) disabled as well," he once said.
Hawking travelled around the world to attend science conferences, visiting every continent, including Antarctica(南极洲). He was also a fan of pop culture and appeared on TV shows such as Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory.
He celebrated his 60th birthday by going up in a hotair balloon; when he was 65, he took part in a zerogravity flight to experience weightlessness. He hoped to travel into space one day. In 2019, Hawking spoke about how he felt life was unfair when he was first diagnosed with his illness. "But now, 50 years later, I can be quietly satisfied with my life," he said.

"I thought the answer was going to be 'a house' or 'a car' or 'a boat'. His answer was 'a pencil'. So I gave him my pencil and he was very h and excited. I realized he had never been to s before, and that was the reality(现实) for 57 million children around the world," Braun said.
Adam Braun started working in finance(金融) after he graduated from college, but he n forgot the boy and the problem he realized.
"We live in a world in which every child can have a chance to get a good education, because we have everything necessary already. We are .a to educate every child. So I promised to help create that world," Braun said.
Mr Braun has r money for his project. He paid for building the first Pencils of Promise School in Laos five years ago. S then, his organization has helped pay for more than 200 schools in the countryside of Laos and Ghana.
