Han Jing has entered senior high school. She is not outgoing and a little anxious. She wonders how to make a good first (impress).
She found that her first maths class was quite difficult. But (lucky) she had a kind and friendly maths teacher. He even told the students funny story to make them laugh. In the afternoon, she had a chemistry class in the science lab. She found that the lab was new the lesson was great. However, the student next to her (keep) talking to her. That made difficult for her to concentrate on the experiment. She was annoyed and wanted him to be quiet.
However, after the first school day was over, Han Jing's worry disappeared. She didn't feel awkward and (frighten) any longer. Although she misses her friends from junior high school, she believes that she will make new friends here. What's more, there is a lot for her (explore) in senior high school. She is curious about she will learn and becomes more confident, (believe) that tomorrow will be a great day!
You may not know a lot of people when you start senior high school. Maybe your friends from junior high school are going to a different senior high school. Even if you know other freshmen (一年级学生) , you still feel anxious that you don't know any upperclassmen. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces?
Most senior high schools hold the freshman orientation (迎新会) before school actually starts. It is helpful because you not only learn your way around the building but also get to meet some of your teachers and fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
When you talk to people at orientation, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships.
The work in senior high school is something freshmen are probably worried about. It builds on what you learned in junior high school, giving you a more advanced (高深的) knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
Senior high school also has more after-school activities than junior high school, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Junior high school taught you the basics of time management and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. Senior high school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.
How to make friends at a new school
Starting at a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be difficult, and you don't even know where to go for your own classes. However, if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sports may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!
Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact (目光接触) with other people. Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you're from.
Remember people's names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people. Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname (绰号) .You'd be surprised at how often this might come in handy.
A. Be friendly to others.
B. Join in after-school activities you like.
C. Making new friends can be hard, too.
D. Never change who you are to try to fit in.
E. If you see someone you know, smile or say "Hi".
F. People may become angry if you just begin by saying "Hey" each time.
G. Don't sit at the back of the classroom where other people don't notice you!
When I arrived in Sydney two years ago from Brazil to study, I struggled (努力) to find work to support myself. My savings soon became dangerously 1 and I was upset that I might have to 2 my dream of studying overseas.
One day, I was at the park, worrying about the future and 3 with my own thoughts. A lady sitting next to me noticed the 4 expression on my face and gave me a sincere smile. She asked if something 5 had happened and if I needed any 6. I didn't want to bother someone I had just 7 with my problems, so I pretended (假装) that everything was fine. But we 8 chatting for nearly two hours about life in Brazil and what I 9 about Australia. She gave me lots of 10 about places to visit in that country.
Before we knew it, it was almost five o'clock. She said she had to go to work and 11 invited me to accompany (陪同) her. Why not? I 12 although I felt a little surprised.
We arrived at a restaurant and the most 13 thing happened. She said that she 14 the place and needed some help in the 15 as one of her chefs was leaving soon. She asked if I wanted to take a part-time job there. I 16, of course, and started the next day.
I spent almost one year 17 in her restaurant, improving my English, and 18 my skills. And most importantly, I built a good 19 with my boss. Even now living in different cities, we are 20 close friends and enjoy sharing long chats about life.
How are you getting along with your senior high school? It may be hard or you as this is the first time that you (leave) your parents. You may often feel lonely and anxious, having trouble (communicate) with others. That's because you are new here people don't know about you. But I think you can overcome the difficulty you follow the advice below.
First, you should take active part in the discussion and show your own opinions, and at the same time, learn to listen to other people's views (careful). Second, you should learn about your classmates' likes and dislikes to get familiar them, Only in this way can you get to know more different people and show them that you are just as (friend). Last but not least, join in more after-class activities which will help you make more friends and enrich your school life.
There's no need (worry) too much. As long as you have (confident) in yourself, you can adjust to the new life quickly.
