Most of us have three meals a day. We take food for granted (想当然). And we don't think about it.1experts argue a food crisis (危机) is coming. This crisis is going to make us2the way we think about food.

Food is in great need3a growing world population. By 1960, the population was three billion. It doubled to six billion by 1999. By 2050, this planet will need to4at least nine billion people. As a result, the food prices will get higher and higher.

So, what can a5, crowded world do? One suggestion is to eat6meat. Meat uses more natural resources (资源) than grain (谷物). It requires more7to produce one pound of meat than to produce one pound of grain. It also requires between 5 and 10 times more8than vegetables. So, eating less meat will9more land for farming, and it will save water.

To eat less meat, people will need to change their eating habits. That will not be10. Americans, for example, have11loved meat. In general, they eat twice as much meat as people in other countries. At the same time, in developing countries like China and Brazil, sales of meat have doubled in the last 20 years.12will double again by 2050. Growing need of meat will13to put pressure on natural resources.

World population is increasing, resources are becoming fewer, and food prices are rising. Therefore, we need to rethink14we eat every day. For meat lovers, we don't need to give up meat15. But we need to eat more grain and less meat!

Camping is one of the most popular outdoor activities. Now, most people are under too much pressure and like going outdoors to relax. Other activities, like hunting and fishing, are often connected with camping trips.

It's also a good idea to spend time camping with your family during a holiday. That will help you make some of the best memories with the family. Here are some things you have to consider when planning your camping trip.

The first thing that you need to think about is deciding on the camping destination (目的地). For most people who like camping, the best place to choose is the spot that they haven't visited before. As soon as you get to your destination, there will be a lot you have to do, for example, putting up your tent.

Of course, food should be considered too. You'd better carry some convenient food like biscuits, nuts and boiled eggs.

When all the things are done, fun activities should be planned. It's a good chance for you to spend time with your family. Lots of open space is perfect when you want to do something as simple as letting your kids ride their bicycles. If your kids are old enough, activities like fishing and horse-riding are also good to choose.

These are a few ideas about having fun camping. Once you get ready for it, you don't need to worry about anything. Go ahead and be a happy camper.

John has been a heavy smoker for over 20 years. However, he finally decided to quit. So he paid a visit to a doctor to get some advice.

The doctor told John he used to smoke too. "When I first tried quitting," he said, "I told myself that cigarettes are awful, harmful to my health, dangerous to my family and damaging to my job."

"After this fight in my mind, I quit for a while. But several days later I would wake up again and forget about my decision completely. 'Maybe smoking is not so terrible?' I would rationalize (作辩解). 'And what if I don't smoke around my family and go where nobody can see me?'"

He kept quitting and then starting again. His rationalization made him pick up cigarettes again and again. Finally, he decided to try a different strategy.

"I took a cigarette in my hand, looked at it and told myself: 'Yes, this cigarette will make me happy. I want to smoke it. But I will quit!'" the doctor said excitedly.

"This strategy worked, and I have not smoked a cigarette since. The reason I think I succeeded is that I didn't fool myself into trying to create a bad image of cigarettes. Instead, I agreed that I wanted it, but I chose to control my desires."

"So be honest with yourself," said the doctor. "Don't pretend (假装) you dislike playing computer games or eating fast food. Instead tell yourself that these things are all fine only if you can control your desire for them. Moderation (节制) is the key."

    1. (1) What's the meaning of the underlined word "quit" in the story?
A . Stop doing something. B . Try to do something. C . Begin to do something. D . Continue doing something.

    3. (3) What do you think of the doctor's advice for John?
      A . Useful. B . Annoying. C . Unhelpful. D . Exciting.
    4. (4) What did the doctor do before, but not now?
