The cook thought about it and said, "That's not fair (公平的). You are a teacher, an educated man. You know more things than I do. I am just a cook."
"That's true," the teacher said, "What's your suggestion?" "If you don't know the answer to a riddle, you need to pay me $100. If I don't know the answer to a riddle, I'll pay you $50." the cook said.
Thinking for a while, the teacher said, "OK. That's fair. Who'll go first?"
"I will," the cook said. "Here is my riddle. What has three legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies?"
The teacher repeated the riddle, "What has three legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies? Mm, that's a good one. I'm afraid I don't know the answer."

Newspapers are very important in our daily life. Many people begin their day by reading newspapers, before breakfast or going to work. In this way they learn what is going on in the world. Sometimes, however, they don't have the time to read the news carefully and must be content with a quick look at the front page. At other times they may be in such a hurry that they only have time to have a quick look at the headlines.
There are newspapers to please every reader. In cities there are many types of newspapers with several different editions every day. In some towns there are fewer newspapers and perhaps only one edition each day. In some place the paper is printed weekly.
Most papers have several editions, especially on Sundays when the edition is larger than usual. There are besides the front page with the most important news, the sports new, the amusement page, a business page and so on.
Stephen Hawking, a world famous British physicist, will write a children's book with his daughter. Hawking said the book will be "a bit like Harry Potter" but without the magic. "It explains the wonders of the universe(宇宙)," said Hawking, while he was on a visit to Hong Kong last week.
Hawking, 64, is probably the world's most famous scientist after Albert Einstein. He is an expert on black holes. He has put his whole life into digging into the beginning (and the end) of the universe.
"My goal is simple," Hawking once said. "It is to completely understand the universe, why it is and why it is there at all."
Hawking has a bad illness that stops him from moving or talking. For a period of time, he had no way to communicate except(除了) by blinking(眨眼).
Now he sits on a wheelchair with a computer by his side. To communicate, he moves two fingers to control the computer's mouse. He selects(挑选) his words from the screen, which are then spoken by a voice synthesizer(音乐合成器).
"I have had the disease for most of my life," Hawking once said. "Yet it has not stopped me from being successful at my work."
Although Hawking is such a disabled man, he made great achievements(成就). He has received many awards and prizes for his work over the years. This includes winning the Albert Einstein Award. It is the highest achievement in theoretical physics(理论物理).
