Travelling has been1with people for a long time. Many of today's travellers are trying to find2unusual experience or adventure.3may be a good choice.
Instead of4your vacation on a bus, in a hotel or sitting on the beach, you may want to try hiking. Hiking is a great way to travel. You will get close to5and take exercise. You can see lots of flowers and grass at the same time. Hiking is easy to do and doesn't have to be very expensive. You can hike close to your home or travel to6places. The basic7you need for hiking is simple: good shoes, clothes and a backpack. You can hike in mountains, in a forest or along a river. If you go with your friends, you can have a chance to talk with them.
Hiking is fun and8, but you shouldn't forget safety. Safety is the first. Here are some basic tips for successful hiking:
Don't hike9. Bring water, a good map and a cellphone. Wear a hat to protect yourself10the sun.
Tim was a little boy of nine years old. He was busy last Saturday morning, because he went to the park with his friends to paint.
He returned home at about half past twelve, but nobody was in. He found that there was a note on the table. It read:
Tim,
We've gone to your grandparents'. Please cook lunch for yourself. If you are free this afternoon, you may come to join us.
Love,
Father &. Mother
Tim didn't want to follow his parents everywhere. He felt so good that he could be a real big boy and look after himself.
Thinking there was nothing important out there, he cooked some noodles for himself and also helped himself to some apple juice.
Then he started to do some housework. He was really a good helper to his mother. When his mother was away, he would always find some housework to do, like sweeping the floor and washing the dishes. He felt it quite right for him to do some housework at weekends.
In the late afternoon, his parents came back. He asked them what happened.
"Why? You forget? It's Grandmother's birthday today."
"Uh,gee! I simply forgot! I must telephone Grandmother."
He picked up the phone.
"I'm terribly sorry, Grandma, that I forgot about your birthday. Anyway, anyone will forget one thing or another. So I won't get worried if you forget my birthday next Tuesday."
John and Jack met at the old bench every afternoon. Then they played football. But they didn't have enough money to buy a real football. So Jack made a ball out of old socks covered with a piece of plastic, Every time, the two friends didn't stop kicking and running until very late.
On Monday afternoon, John and Jack met again at the old bench. Soon the home-made ball was running across the grass. The boys laughed and shouted happily. The ball was stopped by a boy wearing a nice pair of sports shoes. John was upset when he saw the boy was Steven.
The next morning, John's mother gave him a bill." Your uncle sent you a birthday present, she smiled. John's eyes grew big when he saw the $100 bill. Later that day,his mother bought a new pair of sports shoes and a real football.
That afternoon Steven invited John to play football. Steven did not want Jack to join them only because Jack's sports shoes were dirty. When the game was over, John and Steven walked past the old bench where Jack was sitting. Steven picked up a stone and threw it at him. John, holding his new football in his hands, walked on and did not look back.
Several days later. As John walked. Past the old bench, he saw something lying under it. He looked closer and saw it was the home made ball, John was full of sadness when he saw the ball. As his sadness turned to anger, he picked up his new football and kicked it into the air. Then he walked to the bench, sat down and waited.
A rich man had only one son. The man loved his son very much. He sent his son to the best school in his city. But the son fell into the bad company at school. He developed many bad habits.
The man was much worried about his son. He tried his best to mend his habits but he did not succeed. One day he thought of a plan to teach his son a lesson.
He went to the market and bought some fresh apples and a rotten(腐烂) one. He came back home and asked his son to put all the apples along with the rotten I one in a box.
The son did the same. After some days the father asked his son to bring the apples. As he opened the box he was surprised to notice that all the apples had become rotten. He felt very sad.
Looking at this, his father told him to see how one rotten apple had spoiled all the rest. In the same way one bad companion (同伴) could spoil all the others. The father's advice had the expected effect. The boy gave up the bad companion and became good again.
Fraser Island is in Queensland, Australia, about 200 kilometers north of Brisbane. It is about 120 kilometers long and 240 kilometers wide. It is a very important island because it is completely made of sand. In fact, it is the largest sand island in the world. There is no airport on the island, but there is a long beach along the east coast. Planes arrive and leave from here.
The sand makes unusual shapes. There are hills made of sand called sand blows. Nothing grows on them. They move one or two meters a year from the northwest towards the southeast of the island, getting bigger and bigger. At other places on the island, such as Rainbow Gorge, The Cathedrals and Red Canyon, the sandy rocks have different colors. Sometimes the rocks are so brown that they turn the sea brown, like coffee.
Surprisingly, the sandy island has a lot of different plants and animals. There are dark forests—eucalyptus woods, beautiful flowers and over a hundred lakes. There are many kinds of birds, like owls and curlews. There are many animals there, too, such as crocodiles, flying foxes and wild dogs called dingoes.
About 500,000 people visit the island every year to see the island's beauty and nature. People enjoy camping and hiking(徒步)there. Unluckily, the visitors create problems. They damage plants and frighten animals. Their sun cream(防晒霜)makes the water dirty. So it is necessary to manage the visitors. For example, people may not use motor boats or go fishing in the lakes, and they need official papers to drive there.

Every time we go into a museum, we are often told, "(not) touch that!" The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia is just the opposite. Here we are encouraged to everything.
My first visit to the museum was one year ago. I was (exciting) to visit the museum as soon as Mum told us its name. told us that we could climb and jump, and touch everything in the museum.
This place is more like a playground rather than a museum. It gives kids the chance (learn) through play. I loved this place a lot and (have) to be pulled away by the arm when we were ready to leave.
Each exhibit is a hands-on(亲自实践的) experience. I (especial) enjoyed the very large water table and grocery store(食品杂货店). I had so much fun I didn't even realize I was learning.
The only problem is this place gets (crowd) very quickly on weekends. So you need to get there early you don't want to be immersed in(浸没于) the sea of people.
Suggestions
A. Let your parents know you will not be alone. Also, you can ask a teacher to talk to your parents about the after-school activities.
B. Don't worry. Even great piano players have to practice. Hard work and a lot of practice are the only ways to become a good piano player.
C. When you feel angry you should stop talking and count to ten or walk away until you keep quiet.
D. Don't worry. Everybody worries about their school work, even those students like you who study well. Find a hobby or a sport to help you relax for a while.
E. Tell your parents that many kids play computer games and do well at school, too. Ask them to let you play computer games for a short time on weekends.
Problems
⑴Sometimes I get angry easily and shout at my friends. That makes them think I'm not being friendly to them.
⑵In my teachers' eyes, I am a good student. Both my classmates and my parents also think so. No one knows what my problem is. I often feel worried about my school work.
⑶My parents never allow me to play computer games at all. They want me to study all day and do well in my exams. I feel unhappy.
⑷I want to join in some after-school activities, but my parents think it's too dangerous and don't allow me to go out along.
⑸My mother gets me to take piano lessons. She makes it a rule that I must practice two hours a day. I really try my best, but I just can't play well.
