Next Tuesday is my mother's birthday. I love her and I'd like to give her a nice gift. What should I buy? I hear shopping online is easy and quick And we can buy anything we want through it. But I'm not sure whether the things are good or not.

I'm busy and tired this week, How I wish to relax myself. So this weekend I'm going to the beach with my cousin. When we get there, we'll swim in the sea walk on the beach and have a picnic, and never think about our homework! We're sure to have fun.
-Jack
I believe(相信)everyone hopes to see a clean and nice city. But our city isn't as god as we think. So this Sunday I'll help clean the city park with my friends! We're going there by bike. There we will pick up the rubbish and clean the ground. We hope to finish the cleaning in a day.
-Lucy
It's great to help others. As students,we may try our best to help people in need. Old people are always lonely and they need care and help. So this weekend I'll visit an old people's home with my classmates. We'll help clean the old people's rooms, tell them stories and sing or dance for them.
-Dave
Monday! Oh, I don't like Monday because I'll have to go back to school again after the weekend. On weekdays, I have to get up at 6: 30 in the morning and go to bed at 9 o'clock in the evening.
Tuesday is not so bad. I usually play tennis with my friends after school.
On Wednesday evening I don't go out. I stay at home and do my homework.
I like Thursday because I have a P.E. class on Thursday.
I always go out on Friday night. I often go to my friends' house. Sometimes I go to the cinema.
I love the weekend. On Saturday I stay in bed until (直到) lunch time, and I sometimes go to the shops in the afternoon. In the evening I go for a walk with my parents in a park after dinner.
Then on Sunday I go to my friends' house or they come to mine. I usually visit my grandmother for an hour in the afternoon. Then the weekend is over and it's Monday. And I feel bad again!
Some scientists say that the weather in the future won't be good. Summers will be hotter. Warmer, wetter winters are on the way. Terrible droughts (干旱), floods, wildfires, and storms may often happen.
What's the reason for all those wacky weather changes?
Global warming causes (导致) some weather changes. Global warming happens when gases in the air take in the Sun's energy. That energy heats the Earth. Without the gases, the energy would go into space. Some global warming is good. Without it, the Earth would be too cold to live on.
For years, humans make lots of pollution. Pollution is one of the reasons for global warming.
There are some signs (迹象) of global warming. One of the signs is happening in the coldest parts of the world. Near the North and South Poles, large ice sheets (冰原) are breaking up. Scientists think some may disappear by the year 2100.
Because the ice melts, ocean levels rise. This might cause floods.
In some areas, global warming might cause droughts. Droughts may cause wildfires.
Scientists say that cutting down air pollution will slow global warming. One way to lower air pollution is to drive less. People also need to find cleaner ways to make electricity.
Do you have healthy habits? |
|
Mary White |
Yeah! I think my habits are very healthy. Every day I get up early and go to bed early. Every morning I eat breakfast and eat well. I eat fruit and vegetables every day. And every day I play soccer for two hours with my friends. |
Alan Green |
No, I don't. I get up late so I have no time to eat breakfast. For lunch, I usually eat lots of hamburgers. I never play sports. In the evening, I usually play computer games. I go to bed late, at about eleven o'clock. |
Helen Hand |
Yes. My habits are very good. I never eat unhealthy food. Ice-cream tastes good but I never eat it. It's unhealthy. Every day I get up at six o'clock and go to bed at eight thirty. I eat well and play sports every day. I run with my father for half an hour in the morning. So I'm very healthy. |
In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution. They join "environment clubs". In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.
●No-garbage lunches. How much do you throw away after lunch? Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in bags that can be used again. Every week they will choose the classes that make the least garbage and report them to the whole school!
●No-car day. On the no-car day, nobody comes to school by car—not the students or not the teachers! Cars give pollution to the air, so remember:
Walk, jump, bike or run.
Use your legs! It's lots of fun!
●Turn off the water! Did you know that some toilets can waste twenty to forty liters (升) of water an hour? In a year that would fill a small river! In environment clubs, students mend those broken toilets.
We love our environment. Let's work together to make it clean.
Do you know when Earth Day is? It is on April 22nd, and it began in the US in 1970. Earth Day in our country began in the 1990s. Earth Day is a good time for people to think about what they can do to make the Earth clean and beautiful, because now the environment on Earth is getting worse and worse. In fact, there are many things we can do to protect our Earth.
Plant trees.
Planting more trees helps to reduce greenhouse gases (温室气体), stop the earth from running away and provide homes for animals.
Don't waste.
Do not waste water. Use both sides of paper when you write. Turn off the light when you leave. Take your cup with you. Take your own shopping bags to the supermarket. Stop using the plastic bags. Don't use any disposable things. We should save energy.
Don't throw rubbish in the streets.
When rainwater washes over the rubbish, it becomes polluted. The polluted water flows into the rivers and seas.
Ride your bike or take a bus.
Too many cars pollute the air and waste energy.
Remember: Every day is Earth Day.
We should protect the Earth every day, not just on Earth Day. The Earth is our home. Let's do our best to make the Earth cleaner and more beautiful.

One afternoon, he comes out of the classroom and sees his father waiting for him at the school gate. He is very glad and runs to his father.
"Dad, please don't wait for me next time. I can go home by myself. I have grown up," says Wang Bing.
"Let's go," says his father, "I'll cook supper and you can do your homework at home. Mum is still at work."
On their way home, Wang Bing sees some boys skating in a park. "Can I go to learn skating, Dad?" asks Wang Bing. "I'm sorry, my boy. You must go home and do your homework," answers his father, "but I can buy you an ice cream."
Then his father buys an ice cream for him. When Wang Bing wants to eat it, a fly (苍蝇) flies to the ice cream.
"Drive off the fly." says his father. "It's very dirty (脏的)." But Wang Bing says with a smile, "You don't let me skate, but can you let it skate for a while (一会儿)?"

In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution. They join “environment clubs”. In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.
Here are some things students often do.
◆No—garbage (垃圾) lunches. How much do you throw away after lunch? Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in bags that can be used (被使用) again.
◆No—car day. On a no-car day, nobody comes to school in a car—not the students and not the teachers! Cars give pollution to our air, so remember: Walk, jump, cycle or run.
Use your legs! It's lots of fun!
◆Turn off the water! Did you know that some toilets can waste (浪费) twenty to forty tons of water an hour? In a year, that would fill a small fiver! In environment clubs, students mend those broken toilets.
