One day before my final exam, my dad gave me a gift. It completely changed my life.
On that day I had a 1 with my friends and it was a difficult time with my studies. I was unhappy. Then I noticed the gift. I 2 it and saw a DVD inside. Its name was “THE SECRET”. However, I was in no mood (心情) to watch it. I sat down to study, but the 3 in my life—the fight, the sleepless nights and my poor health...everything came to my mind. I wanted an answer but I wondered 4 there was any. Just then, I saw the DVD again. Maybe it would be helpful. I 5 my DVD player. I had no words to describe the feelings I experienced while watching it. The moving (动人的) stories of human beings made me so moved that I wouldn't 6 any of them.
Thanks to my father's gift “THE SECRET”, I discovered 7. Everybody has difficulties in their lives. The important thing is that you should be 8 enough to face them. Now I have started 9 my studies and my friends. And I'm in good health, too. I often hear people say, “Wow! 10 perfect life you have!”
A recent report from Shenzhen Daily says that about 18% of teenagers in Shenzhen have problems with their minds. Some students become worried because they have to study very hard while others have trouble getting on well with people like their parents and classmates.
Li Wen, a Junior Two students from Longgang, could not understand her teachers in class and was doing badly in her lessons. She was afraid of exams. When she looked at the exam paper, she could not think of anything to write.
Another student, a 14-year-old boy called Liu Xin from Nanshan often argued with his classmates and even his parents because of some different ideas. He became so angry about them.
However, many students who have problems don't go for advice or help. Some think they will look stupid if they go to see a doctor. Others don't want to talk about their secrets. Here is some advice that may help.
● Talk to your parents or teachers often.
●Take part in group activities and play sports.
●Go to see a doctor if you feel unhappy or unwell.
The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup started on June 7 and went on for a month. Teams from 24 countries met in stadiums (体育场)across France to decide which country had the best women's football team in the world.
It was the eighth FIFA Women's World Cup. The first of it was in 1991 and then it is held every four years. The 24 countries were in six different groups.
People's interest in the Women's World Cup this year was even higher. Over 720,000 tickets were sold. Tickets for the opening game between France and South Korea were sold out in less than two days. Hundreds of millions of people watched the game on TV and on the Internet.
The winning World Cup team got $4 million. The team getting second place got $2.6 million. Teams that didn't do so well got less money.
In all, the women's teams could get $30 million. Though it was twice as much prize money as that in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup,it was still not much, if you compare it with the $400 million given to the 32 teams in last year's Men1 s World Cup.
Norway's Ada Hegerberg (some people believed she was the world's best woman player) didn't even show up at the World Cup. Norway was the first country to give men and women football players the same money, but Ms. Hegerberg didn't think that Norway did well, so she didn't play on the national team.
Can you understand the following sentences?
"Long time no see." "Good good study, day day up" "I like your smile, but unlike you put your on my face." Yes, we call these examples Chinglish, like" people mountain, people sea."
Chinglish usually means English vocabulary with Chinese grammar on street signs or products.
However, many English—speaking tourists love it.
Tom has been living in Beijing for years. "I think many Chinese people dislike Chinglish. But I love it. It's quite interesting. I think if the translations of English in China are all perfect, something will be lost from Chinese culture However, Chinglish will probably become a part of history in the future. Beijing has made a plan to correct Chinglish within five years. "It is so funny to see Chinglish on the signs. And it is a kind of trouble for communication between the Chinese and foreigners, a Beijinger said.
However, some people in China like Chinglish. They think that English has "borrowed" from other languages such as German, French and Spanish in the past, and now it's Chinese's turn.
Dear Kate,
I saw your name and address in the Pen friend magazine, and I would like to be your pen friend. First, I will tell you some things about myself. My name is Sidney. I'm fourteen years old. I'm about five feet tall. I have short black hair and brown eyes. My hobbies are playing computer games and playing chess.
I live with my parents. They came to England about 30 years ago. They came from Hong Kong, but I have never been there. Now my parents own a Chinese restaurant in Newcastle. We live in a small house near our restaurant. I was born in Newcastle in 2003. I can speak Chinese, but I cannot write it very well. I have a brother called Edwin. He is 23 and works as an architect in London.
I'm in Walker School. It is near my house, so I can walk to school. I like my school because the teachers are friendly. My school has many sports fields like sports very much. I enjoy playing rugby and badminton in winter, and tennis in summer. My favourite subject is Physics. I want to be an engineer.
I'll send you a photo of myself with my school friends. I hope you will write to me soon, and tell me all about you.
Yours,
Sidney
Shaolin kung fu comes from the Shaolin Temple. That's where the name comes from too.
The Shaolin Temple is more than 1, 500 years old. It is in mount Song in Henan.
But why do we have Shaolin kung fu? Who made it?
How it began?
Many stories say that Bodhidharma (菩提达摩), an Indian(印度的)monk, went to the Shaolin Temple in the year 527. The monks there were not very strong. Bodhidharma said they studied too much, and they didn't exercise enough. He then taught kung fu to the Shaolin monks to make them stronger.
But some people say those stories aren't true. Some of the Shaolin monks knew some kung fu before they went to the Shaolin Temple. They taught their kung fu to other monks there. The monks all worked together to make their kung fu better. After many years, their kung fu became Shaolin kung fu.
Why is it famous?
Some Shaolin monks helped the Tang Dynasty Emperor Li Shimin win a war. So Li made friends with the monks. He gave a lot of land to the temple. After that, the Shaolin Temple and Shaolin kung fu became famous all over China.
But not all emperors liked kung fu. Sometime during the Qing Dynasty, people could not study Shaolin kung fu. Many monks had to leave the temple. They went to different places and saw many new kinds of kung fu. They studied them and took them back to the Shaolin Temple. All of the new ideas changed Shaolin kung fu a lot.
Today, Shaolin kung fu is still the most famous kind of kung fu in China. People say," All kung fu comes from Shaolin, but Shaolin kung fu is the best."
Now, Shaolin monks want people to remember their kung fu. They are asking the United Nations to make aolin kung fu a "World Intangible Cultural heritage(世界非物质文化遗产)."
In 1990, when I (be) nine years old, I wanted very much to find penfriend. I found Ashley's address in a magazine, and decided (write) to her.
I sent off my letter with a little hope. Very quickly, I received her letter. my surprises Ashley was only one month (old) than me. I learned some new expressions from her. I (real) liked this new friend
Letter after letter, year after year, Ashley and I continued to write to one another. A letter would be received and I'd write back right away. We would send each other birthday and Christmas (gift).
Eight years later, my parents decided it was time me to meet this friend. They drove me down to Mississippi for a few days. We (have) a good time together. We did the things that teenage girls loved to do.
Twenty—five years after the (one) letter, Ashley and I still have an amazing friendship. Although we don't write letters now, we communicate through mobile phones and the Internet.
