July 21 2020 ABC English EDUCATION Students taught to love parents
A middle school in Wuhan has stood out among other schools in students' love and care for their parents. The students are asked to spend at least one hour doing housework for their parents or giving some help in the neighborhood every Sunday, Mother's Day and parents' birthdays. The school aims (旨在) at turning the students into well-mannered children. The students, mostly from one-child families, were taught to be a good child under strict rules. For example, they are now used to saying good-bye to parents in the morning before they go to school. And no one forgets to say hello to the parents when they return from school. The parents are pleased to find their children can help them with some housework such as making beds, washing and cooking. From Wuhan Post |
How do you spend your spare time? There will be different answers to it. Most people in Poland have their own ways of spending free time. Sometimes they just want to have a rest, but they try to do something more pleasant most of the time. They have in any different hobbies, which help them to get away from their everyday problems and spend their free time happily.
Many Polish people like travelling. They look for new places that they have never been to and add new and exciting experiences to their journey. Some of them like to climb mountains, and others like to go to the sea or a lake to swim, because these can make them get exercise and are good for their health.
Many Polish people also like to do sports in their free time. They are usually crazy about football, and football is regarded as the Polish national sport. Many football fans may support a certain team, so they go to watch every match of the team they support, and they buy many things that have any relation with the team. Watching a sport and doing it are both good ways to relax.
In addition, doctors say that doing sports is very good for the health. Many people in town, especially young men, often go to the gym to attend the exercise classes to keep fit.
Besides these ways, Polish people have many other ways to spend their free time. And they really enjoy their free time.
Do you want to be a volunteer(志愿者)?Maybe you need some ideas to get you started. Here are just a few. You can pick(挑选)what you really love to do.
Help kids learn and grow. Be a big brother or big sister at an after-school care center. You can help little kids to learn or play with them.
Give back during the holidays. Serve dinner to the homeless or volunteer at your local old people's home. Your local church and temple may also need your help.
Help at a local animal shelter(动物收容所). Most shelters depend on volunteers to keep the cats and dogs happy and well exercised. And when you're walking dogs, you get some exercise, too.
Protect the environment. Take part in a local park clean-up day. Plant a tree in the spring. Join a group to work together to protect your local river.
Help sick people. Lots of us are close to people who have a medical problem. It can make you feel good to donate your time or money to the people with an illness. When you cheer them up, you also feel happy.
Easter is a festival to celebrate the rebirth after the cold winter. We can see lots of symbols of new life on Easter, like eggs, chicks and rabbits.
Unlike Christmas, Easter isn't on the same date each year. It is on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox(春分). People in the UK have a holiday which is almost as long as the Christmas holiday. It's a public holiday. Everyone looks forward to their Easter break because it's a moment to relax, have a short holiday or visit family and friends.
For most England children, Easter means chocolate eggs. Shops are full of chicks, rabbits and flowers. They sell a lot of chocolate eggs. Ninety million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK each year, and each child gets on average(平均) eight chocolate eggs that day. Most doctors advise people to eat Easter eggs in moderation(适度).
On Easter Day, people paint on eggs to give others as presents. And they always hide eggs for children to find. Some places even hold competitions to see who can roll an egg down a hill without breaking it!

Hemingway was one of the famous writers. He was born in Americain 1899. His father was a doctor and loved sports very much, and his mother taught music. Among the six children in the family, Hemingway was the second oldest.
Hemingway had written many books in his life. The Old Man and the Sea is one of the most famous books and it is also my favorite. It came out in 1952. The main character in the book is a fisherman. He is an old man and fishes alone. People think he is a man with bad luck, because he doesn't get a fish in eighty-four days. Every evening, he comes home with his empty boat. But the old man believes himself. Then on the eighty-fifth day the old man takes a big fish.Although he meets a lot of trouble, the old man never gives up.
