John comes from England. When he comes to China, his friends 1 him something about the traffic(交通) rules in China. People drive on the left 2 England, but people should drive on the right here. Before you cross a street, you must look 3 ways—look left, look right and look left again. 4 remember the traffic moves on the right, or some cars and buses 5 hurt (伤害)you. In the morning and the evening, when people go to work and 6 back from work, the streets are very 7. That's to say, there are many people and cars on the road. 8 it is the most dangerous time. When you want to go across the 9, you must wait for the green “walk” sign(指示牌). In China, you can always ask the policeman for help when you 10 your way.
In our school, we have four classes in the morning. From nine forty to ten o'clock, we can have a twenty-minute rest time. It is a quarter to ten now. Look! Most of us are going out of the classroom. Some boys are playing basketball, soccer or running on the playground. Some girls are watching them or playing badminton. There are also some students in the classroom. They are talking. A few of them are reading or doing homework. Look! A girl is looking at the birds in a tree from the window. She is smiling.
What are our teachers doing? They are either working or talking to the students in the office. They are all very busy but happy!
Anna: I work in a bank on workdays. My home is about twenty kilometers from my office. I usually go to work by train. I usually get up at 6:30 a.m. and take the train at 7:00 a.m. It usually takes me about thirty minutes to get to my office. I am never late for work. |
Joe: I am a student. My home is not far. I can go to school on foot. It takes me about forty minutes. But I often go to school by boat because it is more fun. It takes me about twenty minutes. |
Nancy: I'm a waiter. I work in a restaurant from Monday to Friday. I often go to work by bus. It is about five kilometers from my home to the restaurant. It takes me about twenty-five minutes to go to work. Sometimes, I am late for work because there are too many cars and buses on the street. |
Tony stops his car by the side of the road. He is very tired and wants to get some sleep. Just when he lies down on the seat, a man comes and asks him the time. He looks at his watch and says, “It's a quarter past eight in the morning. “ Tony tries to sleep again, but there is another knock on the window of his car. “Sir, do you know what time it is, please?” a woman asks. He has to look at his watch again and tells her, “It's half past eight a. m..”
Tony can't sleep well because there are too many people knocking at his window. He writes a note and puts it on the window of his car. It says, “I don't know what time it is!”
Once again Tony tries to get some sleep. Just at that time, a young man knocks at his window and says, “Hi, sir ! It's a quarter to nine a.m. now!”
The Monkey Buffet Festival is on the last Sunday of November. It is a great day for monkeys in Thailand(泰国). The festival has a history of twenty-five years. People there think monkeys can bring good luck to them. So, to thank monkeys, they have this special festival.
On that day every year, people put lots of fruit, vegetables, cakes and even drinks on the tables outside. They are all for monkeys. Many people come to see the monkeys on that day.
During the festival, there are a lot of interesting activities about monkeys. Young people always dress like monkeys. And they sing and dance and play some music on the street.
Monkeys always live in groups. Most of them live in the trees. They are good at running and jumping. They eat fruit, vegetables, flowers and birds' eggs. Monkeys are clever. Do you think so?
They do well in running and jumping.
