The winner of the (men) competition was a 40-year-old man from Xi'an and the winner of the women's competition was a 19—year— old girl from Dalian. Both of (they) were very modest and they didn't think they were better the other singers. This kind of competition encourages people to speak English. Many people agree that they make progress by singing English songs and that it's good idea to have fun with English.
Maybe you have heard The Chinese Speak English before. If not, why don't you find out about it? It suggests lots of ways for us to take an interest in (learn) English.

The whole school was talking about the winter camp. And everyone (be) looking forward to it except me because I thought I would get homesick. But it was the way we grew up.
When (arrive) at the camp, we were asked to ski(滑雪)down to the field by the coach. I skied (careful), but I still hit a piece of ice and fell down.
"Haha!" somebody started laughing behind me. I looked back to see was laughing at me. To my surprise, I saw girl in the same embarrassing(令人尴尬的) position I was in. "I thought I'd be bad at this, but it seems (difficult) than I expected!" she said. Suddenly, I started laughing too. After being so afraid of (fall), it was comfortable not to fear it any more.
The next day I didn't want to go ski jumping, I was chosen to do first. But when my (foot) left the ground, I felt I was flying and it was wonderful.
Just do your best (meet) every challenge. You'll never imagine how much you will get.
I'm sitting outside Grandpa's pigeon loft(鸽子房)and waiting for Goldie to come home. I'm really nervous about it because I(ask) to do an important job.
Goldie is Grandpa's champion(冠军)racing pigeon. She's famous because she(win) lots of cups. This morning she had a race—flew two hundred miles away with lots of other pigeons. And now she(race) back home.
"Come on, Goldie. Come on, Goldie!" That's me, calling Goldie back home. But I can't see her yet.
I really want Goldie to win this race. I wantgive Grandpa the good news when I see him tonight in the hospital. My eyes search the blue sky, still no sign of Goldie.
"Calm down, Danny!" I tell myself.
But it's hard to be calm. This job is very important. I'll tell you why.
Before the race, they(put)a ring on every pigeon's leg. When Goldie comes back, I will catch her to take her ring off, as fastI can, and put it in a little metal tube(管子),then put that tube in Grandpa's special clock. That will record the time when Goldie finishes the race. It should be Grandpa's job. But while he(prepare) for the race, he fell ill suddenly and was sent to hospital.
So that's why I'm nervous, waiting for Goldie. I'm getting more nervous every minute, because Goldie(be) here now. But the sky is blue and empty.
"(not worry), "I tell myself." Goldie always comes back. "But where is she? What will I tell Grandpa?
I wait until it's nearly dark. I give up! Then I lockother pigeons in the loft. I have to see Grandpa tonight in the hospital.
Can you imagine what the world will be like in 100 years? A better worse place? In the modem society of technology, everything (have) a different type. We have invented many new (machine). On the one hand, those things will help people a lot and we are sometimes depending technology too much. For example, we can order something to eat by telephone without (go) out. We can finish all the work by "one touch", we just hold small remote control (遥控器), and it will order everything. For example, the car will drive to our house by (it) with our order.
On the other hand, when we get so many new things in our life, it will make some (problem). Maybe people will feel strange around other people because we will hardly talk to one another. We know all of the answers by modem machines. We use the Internet (connect) everything. However, we need to think that face-to-face communication is very (importance) to human beings.
I recently heard a story about a famous scientist. Because of his great achievements, he was thought to be more creative than a common person. When he was asked why he was able(do) this, he gave the answer. It all came from an experience with his mother when he was about three years old. "I triedget a bottle of milk from the fridge but it fell, spilling(溢出)the milk all over the floor— a sea of milk! I was frightened and I didn't know what to do!" he said.
His mother heard the noise and got into the kitchen. "I(consider) how to explain this to you, Mum, "he said. Instead of(punish) him, she said, "Robert, what a great mess you have made! I haven't seena sea of milk before! Well, since the milk has already been spilled, would you like(play) in the milk for a while? We will clean itafter that. "Then, he did so. After a few minutes, his mother said, "You know, Robert, whenever you (make) a mess like this, finally you have to do it by yourself. "He used a sponge(海绵)and together they cleaned up the spilled milk.
His mother then said, " You know, we failed to successfully carry a big milk bottle with two tiny hands just. Let's go out in the yard and fill the bottle with water to see if you can discover a way to carry it. "Then the little boy learned that if he grasped(抓紧)the bottle at the top with both hands, he could carry it without(drop) it.
What a wonderful lesson!
