Electricity is an important part in our life. We can't see or touch it, but it is all around us. Our life will be terrible without electricity. But some people don't know that everyone should save electricity. When it is not completely dark, many street lamps (路灯) light up early in some streets. Some people don't turn off the lights when they leave the room. Some people are sleeping with the lights on. They are all wrong. Here I make somesuggestions about stopping these things:

*Turn on the street lamps on time. We light them from 7:00 p. m.~5:30 a. m. in summer, and from 5:30 p. m.~6:00 a. m. in winter.

*If some small areas are very dark, just turn on a few lights.

*The distance (距离) between street lights can be 50~60 meters. It can save electricity and money.

*If there are some activities, such as fairs, we can make the lights bright;if there is no activity, lights needn't be too bright.

Ask people to save electricity through TV shows, newspapers, and so on.

Electricity is a valuable resource (资源). It helps us live well and conveniently. We should take action to save it at once!

    1. (1) How many examples does the writer tell us about wasting electricity?
      A . Two. B . Three. C . Four. D . Five.
    2. (2) What does the underlined word "suggestions" mean?
      A . Energy. B . Jokes. C . Plans. D . Advice.
    3. (3) What does the writer think of electricity?
      A . Valuable. B . Fast. C . Clean. D . Dangerous.
    4. (4) Who of the following is NOT right?
A . As a worker, Tom made the distance between two lights 55 metres. B . Mary wrote an article about saving electricity to the newspaper. C . Annie turned on all the lights when it was dark in a small area. D . On the Book Fair last Sunday, Lucy made the lights very bright.
    5. (5) What is the purpose (目的) of the passage?
A . To tell us how to use electricity safely. B . To introduce electricity to us. C . To ask us to find valuable resources. D . To ask us to save electricity.

Cars make our lives more convenient. But they can also be a problem. For example, fossil fuel (化石燃料) cars mainly cause air pollution.

To improve the environment, many countries are developing electric vehicles (EVs,电动车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world's largest EV market.

Last year, over 40 per cent of the 753,000 EVs sold in the world were sold in China, more than twice as many as the number sold in the United States.

"Filling up a fossil fuel car with gas (汽油) is more expensive than charging (充电) an electric car," said Wu Hao, who bought an electric car this year.

However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging piles (充电桩) and the cars can't go far before being recharged.

Some of these problems are being solved. In 2014, China had 31,000 charging piles. Now China has the world's largest EV charging network, with more than 450,000 charging piles in total.

Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to cut down pressure on its environment after the government promised to stop increases in carbon dioxide emissions (二氧化碳排放量) by 2030.

"As China goes, so will the world's car industry," the Wall Street Journal said.

    1. (1) ____________mainly cause air pollution according to the passage.
      A . Subways B . Sharing bikes C . Electric vehicles D . Fossil fuel cars
    2. (2) Over_________ electric vehicles were sold in China last year.
      A . 150,600 B . 167,000 C . 301,200 D . 753,000
    3. (3) What did Wu Hao think of charging an electric ca1?
A . It's more expensive than filling up a fossil fuel car with gas. B . It's less expensive than filling up a fossil fuel car with gas. C . It's as expensive as filling up a fossil fuel car with gas. D . It's as cheap as filling up a fossil fuel car with gas.
    4. (4) Which country has the world's largest EV charging network now?
      A . America. B . Germany. C . China. D . England.
    5. (5) What is the passage mainly about?
A . China has taken a leading role in the world's electric vehicle industry. B . Electric cars will disappear in the future. C . There is no problem using electric cars. D . How to deal with air pollution.

Electricity is one thing that we waste most. Lights, TVs, (radio) and other things are often kept on even when no one is using them. We should turn them off we do not need them. It takes   (little) than a second to do it. Anyhow, not wasting electricity saves money, because we do not have to pay for the electricity we do not use. The (two) thing that we often waste is water. Fresh water is precious, so it shouldn't be wasted. It is only a simple matter of turning a tap. I am sure everybody can do this (easy) if he wants to. Another big waste is food. My mother used to cook so much food that much of it was thrown away. I told her we had wasted so much (food). She thought I was right and now cooks mainly what we can eat.

It is not right to be wasteful. I find there is a simple way of not wasting things. That is (use) only what we need. Do not touch what we do not need. this way, we can stop being wasteful.
