Toronto is a big city in Canada. It has a long cold winter so students there have a long summer holiday. It is about nine weeks from the end of lune to early September. They also have a one week spring holiday in March. They also have two weeks of Christmas holidays but they only have a two-day Easter holiday.
In some parts of the world there are large deserts(沙漠). There are no trees or water there. Travelers must take food and water with them.
The only animal who can walk across the desert is the camel. It can go without food or water for a long time, and it can carry heavy loads(担子) . People call the camel "The ship of the desert".
The camel is very big. It has one or two humps (驼峰) on the back, short cars and a long neck. The camel's humps hold fat. And its stomach holds water in twelve deep pockets. Each pocket has a mouth which closes itself and the food does not mix with the water .When the camel wants some water, he can get it out of the pockets. The camel's food is grass and leaves of trees.
Do you live in a city? Do you know how cis began? Long long ago, here were only a few thousand people in the world. These people moved from place to place. They moved over the land and hunted animals for food.
No one knows how or where these people learned to grow food. But when they did, their lives changed. They didn't have to look for food any longer. They could stay in one place and grow food. People began to live near another. And so the first village grew. Many people came to work in the villages. These villages grew very big. When machines came along, the people's lives in the villages changed again. Factories were built. More and more people lived near the factories. The cities grew very big.
Today, some people are moving back to small towns. This is strange, isn't it?
