Dear Jenny,
How's it going? Are you busy with your study these days?
I've been back at school 1nearly four weeks. I'm very glad to tell you that great 2have taken place in our school this term. First of all, we're asked to “clear ourplates” when having our meals and say3 to wasting. Some of us used to order more than what we could eat. That was a big waste of food. Now we need to4 the food we order. We should also stop wasting in some other ways. For example,we should turn off the lights when we 5 the classroom. And our school has opened up some fields for us to learn how to grow vegetables. Each class is given a small garden and our class has decided to grow some tomatoes and beans(豆类) in our6 time. I think that'll be very interesting. Maybe I'll be able to 7 you some beans we've grown by ourselves next time! What's more,we have only two classes in the afternoon 8 we have more time for after school activities. I'm one of the traffic safety volunteers in our school. After school, we take turns to go to the streets near our school and ask people to 9 the traffic rules.
I think we are having a different school life now!
Please write back soon and tell 10 more about your school.
Yours,
Wang Wei

My grandfatherJack is 96 years old,and he has had an interesting life.He has travelled a lot in his life in the Far East.He visited the Taj Mahal in India and the Pyramids in Egypt. He hunted (狩猎) lions in Africa, and rode a camel in the Sahara Desert. He says the most beautiful place he has travelled to is Kathmandu in Nepal.
Jack has married twice. His first wife died when she was32.He met his second wife Maria while he was cycling round France. They have been married for 50 years, and they have lived happily in a small village since they got married.
Jack says that he has never been ill in his life. The secret of good health, according to my grandfather,is exercise. He goes swimming every morning. He has done this since he was a boy.He also has a glass of wine every night!Perhaps that is his secret!

Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work.Every evening my mother looks through magazines at home. And every night,I look at the posters with photos of David Beckham and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or print?
Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago,and has been made from silk, cotton, bamboo, and, since the 19th century, from wood.People learned to write words on paper to make a book. But in those days, books could only be produced one at a time by hand.As a result, they were expensive and rare. And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read.
Then printing was invented in China. When printing was developed greatly at the beginning of the 11th century, books could be produced more quickly and cheaply. As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.
Today information can be received online, downloaded from the Internet rather than found in books, and information can be kept on CD-ROMs or machines such as MP3 players.
Computers are already used in classrooms, and newspapers andmagazines can already be read online. So will books be replaced by computers one day? No,I don't think the YaoMing poster on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a computer two metreshigh!

In England, people don't often talk much. You can get on a bus or a train, and everyone sits looking out of the window.
Often they read books and papers. But they don't talk much. When you meet English people, they often talk about one thing—weather (天气). So when you meet somebody in England, you can say, “Nice weather for the time of year!”“But it is a little cold today,” somebody may answer. “But will be a little warmer later,” you can say.Talk like this and the English people will think, “How friendly you are!”
Why do children like watching TV?
Many children like watching TV. It's very interesting and they can see a lot and know many things about other people. They can learn from the radio, too. But they can learn easily from TV. Why? Because they can hear and watch at the same time. But they can't watch anything from the radio.
TV helps to open children's mind. They can find better way to do things.
Many children watch TV only on Saturday and Sunday evenings. They are very busy. But some children watch TV every night. They go to bed late. It's not good for their eyes and health.
The students always go to school in school .
