While travelling, you'll be taking money, license or passport. Or you will buy something expensive to take back home with you and you don't want it to get stolen. Here are some ideas on how to keep your valuables(贵重物品) safe while traveling.

    Plan ahead of time

Think of what you really need and don't need to take on your trip. Only take the valuables that you must have, not just ones that you would like to have.

Carry your valuables on your person

Something that is small, like cash and credit cards and your passport, can be carried in a money wallet around your neck or in a money belt. This way, your valuables are hidden and right next to you, where you know where they are at all times. Wear clothing that can hide the money belt.

Carry larger valuables in your carry-on bag

If you can't fit it in your money wallet like some large valuables, you'd better put them somewhere that you will keep touch with them. Your can put them on the plane, so you don't have to worry about the airline losing your bag or someone stealing it from the belt after the flight before you get to it.

Choose a hotel that has the front desk for valuables

This way, you don't have to worry about housekeeping getting hold of your valuables, or someone stealing your valuables if your room is broken into. If you give the valuables to the front desk to keep for you, choose a time when others are not looking.

    1. (1) The passage is mainly about ______.

A . what to do while traveling B . how to carry your valuables on your person C . how to keep your valuables safe while traveling D . how to save money while traveling
    2. (2) You can carry all of the following valuables on your person EXCEPT ______.

      A . your cash B . credit cards C . your passport D . your large valuables
    3. (3) Which kind of hotel can you choose while traveling according to the text?

A . You can choose a hotel with a lot of housekeepers for valuables. B . You can choose a hotel with the front desk for valuables. C . You can choose some cheap hotel. D . You can choose a hotel with gatekeepers.
    4. (4) When you plan your travel ahead of time, you should make sure that ____.

A . you take valuables that you must have B . you take valuables as many as possible C . you take valuables that you would like to have D . you take valuables that you have at home

A . Anything small must be carried in a money wallet around your neck. B . You give valuables to the front desk at a hotel when others are looking. C . You should wear a tight short while traveling. D . You'd better put some large valuables in your carry-on bag.

"The grass looks greener on the other side of the fence. " That's an old saying in English. It means other places often look better, more interesting than the place where you live. Some people worry that young Chinese are beginning to feel that way. They see young Chinese ignoring Chinese culture and, instead, buying Japanese cartoon books, watching Korean soap operas and even celebrating Western holidays.

Foreign books and soap operas are good, but Chinese writers and actors are just as good. As for holidays, Christmas is nice, but it can never have the meaning for Chinese that Spring Festival has, and the West has nothing to compare with Mid-Autumn Festival. And let's not forget the part of Chinese culture I like best: its friendliness. Not all countries are as warm as China.

It's good to enjoy other cultures and to learn from them, but they cannot replace your own culture. It's good to look on the other side of the fence, but make sure you take a good long look. You will find that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

    1. (1) The Spring Festival is more meaningful for Chinese people.

    2. (2) The saying means the place where you live looks better than other places.

    3. (3) Foreign culture can't replace Chinese culture.

    4. (4) Some people worry that young Chinese ignore Chinese culture.

    5. (5) This passage mentioned three Chinese festivals.

Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. You shouldn't waste this wonderful opportunity to learn. Here is our advice for you to have a happy school life.

Advice 1    Be active in school! Don't say things are difficult or boring. Be interested in school life and your school subjects. Join lots of activities. Be quick to put your hand up. Go around the school with a big smile.

Advice 2    Expect to work. School is not a holiday camp. If you are not working, you are not learning, and you are wasting your time at school. Teachers cannot make everything enjoyable.

Advice 3   Keep fit. If you do not eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class. If you go to bed late and do not have enough sleep, you will be sleepy in class. Play some sports to keep your body strong.

Advice 4   Do today's work today. Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. You cannot finish a race if you rest all the time.

Advice 5   Don't be too disappointed if things sometimes go badly. Everyone fails some tests, loses some matches and has bad days. Friends are not always perfect, and they sometimes say and do unpleasant things. Don't let small problems seem very big and important.

Advice 6   Talk about problems—sometimes they are only the result of misunderstanding. Don't be too embarrassed to ask for help. You are young. No one thinks you can do everything!

Advice 7   Plan your time. Don't waste life lying in bed on Saturday morning. Go and play a sport, learn the piano, work on a project, read a book, practise English, or help someone with problems. There are always a lot of things to do.

Some people believe that if they are wealthy, they will be able to do anything they want, which means happiness. On the other hand, some people believe that holding a high position in the government is happiness. In this way, you have not only money, but also many other things which can't be bought by money. If you want to feel happier, do something nice for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to get food for an old neighbor, or simply help around the house.
