They should 9 do what they have been doing for many years.

Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide guests with things like disposable(一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers.

Many guests like the idea because they don't have to bring their own. But if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring these things of your own. That's because some hotels in Beijing have no longer provided guests with these disposables (一次性用品). Many disposable things are made of plastic. People throw them away after only using them once. It's a waste of natural resources (资源) and is very bad for the environment.

In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1,320 tons of lunch bowls every year!

Plastic can take 100 to 400 years to break down. So the less plastic we throw away, the better environment we will have.

So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again. Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your daily life:

Use cloth shopping bags, not plastic ones.

After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry. Then use it over and over again.

        Do not use paper cups.

At your school canteen (餐厅), use your own bowls and chopsticks instead of disposable ones.

    4. (4) How can we deal with a used plastic bowl or bag?

Have you ever dream ed of traveling in space? To travel in space, we first have to work out where our food will come from.

Today's space travellers don't go to the Moon or Mars. They go to the International Space Station (ISS). There, the spacemen live for weeks to months.

If you visited the ISS years ago, nearly every kind of food you ate would have come from the Earth.

In 2014,scientists sent the ISS a space garden with some vegetable seeds(种子). With water and some light, the vegetables in the garden grew. Those were the first foods being grown on the ISS. But the spacemen couldn't eat them and had to send them back to the Earth. The next year, after scientists made sure they were safe, the spacemen grew a second crop. This time the vegetables were ready for the spacemen to eat.

Gardening is different in space than it is on Earth. Without gravity, plants don't know which way is up. But they learn how to grow. They send their leaves in the direction of light and their roots into the soil.

The spacemen also have grown vegetables as well as flowers. It's important to know a plant can flower in space, because flowering is part of how some plants make fruit.

While the space garden is small for now, hopefully it could one day help provide people with food on long﹣time space trips.

Marco Polo was born in Italy in 1254. When he was 17, he travelled along the Silk Road with his father, who wanted to do trade with the Chinese. Finally, they arrived in Beijing. They were guests at the Emperor's Palace. Although Marco was young, he was very clever and could speak four languages. The Emperor was impressed by him and they became friends. The Emperor asked Marco to help him and sent him to do many important jobs all over the country.

Marco was amazed by how great China was. He was impressed by the Emperor's Palace which he described as "The greatest palace that I've ever seen". The walls were covered with gold and silver and the hall was so large.

Marco was also attracted by lots of strange things in China. Marco was surprised to see Chinese people using paper money in the markets. In Europe, people paid for goods with gold and silver. The black stones were coal, but Marco had never seen coal before!
