Welcome to Wonderful Museum, This month we are having a special display about old machines from some different countries. You can find the ways machines were used to help people one hundred years ago. How did the Germans make their first cars? How did our grandfathers use their farming tools? When did Americans try to make their planes? And when did the Spanish make the comfortable shoes in their factories? You will find the answers.
After this trip of the machine history, enjoy some coffee by our wonderful coffee making machines in Yang's Cafe in the corner of this floor.
When I was at school, I had a classmate whose name was Ted. Ted and I were in the same class. He sat next to me. He had serious problems in communicating with others. We always had to guess what he was saying. Besides, most of my classmates did not like to play with him because his hands and shirts were always dirty. I told him several times a day to wash his hands. I tried to let him know the importance of being clean. But he just could not do it well and I didn't know how to change him.
One day, our teacher Miss Hsieh walked to Ted. She said nothing. She took Ted to the washroom. Miss Hsieh washed his hands slowly and told Ted that he should keep himself clean. She did that every day for one week. Finally, Ted understood what Miss Hsieh wanted him to do.
Miss Hsieh's love gave me a good example. When I am doing my job, I always teach my students by showing them the right ways to do things. I always remember to give them more time to learn and to grow up. I'd like to say thanks to Miss Hsieh because I learn a lot from her.
Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. Every day they don't act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, "I love you" is too luxurious for them to say. Sending flowers on Valentine's Day is even more out of the question.
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt(被子)."Mom, I have a question to ask you." "What?" she replied, still doing her work. "Is there love between you and Dad?"
My mother stopped her work and raised her head with surprise in her eyes. Then she said, "Susan, look at this thread. Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. The thread really makes the quilt strong and durable. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. Love is inside."
I listened carefully but I couldn't understand until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. After they were back from the hospital, my mother helped him walk slowly on the beautiful country road every morning. My father had never been so gentle. But after two months he still couldn't walk by himself. All of us were worried about him." Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day. "Susan, don't worry about me," he said gently. "To tell you the truth, I just like walking with your mom. "Reading his eyes, I know he loves my mother deeply.
Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But from this experience, I understand that love is just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.
Do you enjoy visiting a museum? Did you ever make a, plan before a visit? Every museum must have something that attracts you. And there are many possible ways to enjoy yourself in a museum.
If you follow these steps below, you'll know what is worth seeing and doing, so that you can make the most of your time at the museum,
Decide what museum you will visit. There are so many different kinds of museums and you first need to find one that you like. It's easy for you to choose one and start an enjoyable visit!
Do some research online. Every museum now has a website which allows you to look through the information about it. On the website, you may look for such things as:
◇The exhibits (展品) 一 See what is on show at the museum at all times, and what special exhibitions are held for a short time.
The history of the museum 一 There will often be very interesting stories about the exhibits and the benefactors (捐赠者). That can make your visit more interesting.
◇Activities 一 See whether there are talks, tours or special activities on the day when you visit. Many museums hold some activities that meet the interests of all age groups.
◇Cost, food and storage 一 It's important to know how much the visit will cost. You hate to decide whether you can eat there or not. You might also need to find out about your transportation needs, as well as storage for coats, bags, etc.
◇Learn at least one thing on your visit. It's always good to take away something new from your visit.
◇Plan breaks into your visit. When you walk around, standing here and studying exhibits there, you may become very tired. So it's important to take breaks. A break is a good opportunity for you to think of what you have seen and what else you might want to do in the museum.
◇Take a friend. Visiting museums is always a lot more fun when you are with someone else. You can talk over what you're seeing. A friend also brings another way of thinking when you talk about the exhibits.
In Germany, there is a special museum. It is the only one of this kind in the world and only very y few people know it. Every year, the number of people who come to visit the museum is only about one thousand. What kind of museum is it?
It is a museum about taxes (税收). In this museum, you can see the history of taxes and all kinds of taxes in different countries in the world.
After visiting the museum, people can draw a conclusion (得出结论). That is from 3000 B. C. (公元前), the kings, dictators (独裁者) and finance ministers (财政部长) could tax people freely. They taxed people heavily because of such things as wars, weddings (婚礼) or road building. They needed money and they got money by taxing their citizens (公民).
In the early times of Egypt, farmers had to pay heavy taxes if the water level (水面) of the Nile River rose. The kings said that if the water level rose, there would be much more earth in farmers' fields. So the farmers could get a good harvest and they should pay more taxes.
A strange kind of tax 一 Window Tax appeared (出现) in England. It lasted more than one hundred years. How? If there were more windows in the wall, the people must pay more taxes. So in those years, people built windows in the wall as few as possible.
Russian people once paid a tax for their beards (胡子). The people who had paid this tax would get a special piece of paper. But what about the people who didn't pay for their beards? Of course, their beards would be cut. But without a beard for a man is a way to scorn (蔑视) God. He would also be punished.
Did you see snow in your hometown last winter?Did you feel it was warmer than before?
" (2)自1986年以来中国已有21个暖冬了," said scientists. They also said that in the past 100 years,as the global (全球的) temperatures went up by 0.74 ℃ ,the temperature in North China has climbed 1.4 ℃ in only 50 years.
China needs to take quick (1) to cut carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) emission (排放), because it's the main reason for global warming. The good news is that China has seen the importance of going green.China set the goal of cutting energy use by 20 and pollution emission by 10 in the 11th Five-Year Plan.
Can you slow down global warming? Sure! (3)You and your family can take steps to cut the amount of carbon dioxide that is sent out into the air.
Here are some pieces of advice to help you save the earth.
▲ Wear used clothes.Wearing your brother's,sister's or dad's old T-shirt means you save the energy.
▲ Change your light bulbs (灯泡).Use energy-saving light bulbs. And don't forget to turn off the lights when you leave a room and turn off your television and computer when they are not in use!
▲ Ride the bus.Taking a bus saves a lot of oil every year.
▲ Say no to plastic bags. The next time your parents go to the market, ask them to use baskets
▲ Open a window.Don't use the air conditioner (空调),and let some fresh air in.When you have to use the conditioner, set the temperature higher in the summer and lower in the winter to save energy
Make small changes in your daily life.Don't use paper cups, bags and boxes.
It's time for all of us to do something to save the earth.
