Although I have lost everything, I have not lost my life. So I will not give up and I will wait for another ship. I have already cut down trees and built a house. I go out with my gun almost every day to kill animals and birds for food. I'm even learning to grow fruit and vegetables.

A few weeks ago, I found the marks of another man's feet on the sand. Who else is on my island? Not long after that, I saw some cannibals trying to kill two men from a broken ship. One of them died but the other ran towards my house. I helped him kill the cannibals. This man now lives with me and helps me. I named him Friday because that was the day when I met him. He is smart and I have already taught him some English.

Farmer Pak Sadiman has made it his task to do something about Central Java's water shortage problem, little by little.

He has changed his dry village into a place rich in ground water by planting trees on nearby land for the last 19 years, and he is encouraging others to join in, too.

Sadiman realized that the land was in need of some water when the Gendol River - previously (以前) the source of water for villagers — was quickly drying up: Even rubber trees, the local people's main source of income (收入来源), were so dry that they could no longer produce rubber latex (橡胶乳). It was then that Sadiman took action so that his children and grandchildren could take advantage of the planted trees,

"Banyan (榕树) trees, unlike rubber trees, can keep groundwater. The more banyan trees are planted, the more clean water villagers will get," he thought. Although he went through a hard time, the farmer never became discouraged from achieving his goal — providing his village with a clean water source.

He's planted at least 11, 000 trees over the last 19 years, and his village seems to have escaped from the dry season, Villagers have joined in Sadiman's efforts and worked alongside him to plant the trees. "Pak Sadiman is our hero. This village used to fight with water shortage, but now we have enough water because of him," said the head of the village.

Sadiman said as long as he's healthy, he'll continue to plant trees to help provide clean water for his villagers.

    1. (1) What problem did the village have?
    2. (2) What did Sadiman do to solve the problem?
    3. (3) How long had Sadiman , been working on the task?
    4. (4) What does the underlined words "escape from"in Paragraph 5 mean?
    5. (5) What do you think of Sadiman?

Because of COVID-19 (新冠肺炎), teachers are trying their best to come up with creative ways to connect with their students.

First-grade teacher Katie Ricca of Florida has been giving her math lessons every day on Zoom. At the same time, she has to take care of the studies of her five little ones. So when she spared no effort to help one of her students out, the child's mom couldn't stop singing her praises.

During one of her many Zoom calls, Katie noticed a girl named Hannah had shut down in the middle of the lesson." Our class tried talking to her, but there's something wrong with her," Katie said later. When Hannah left the lesson early, she became worried.

Once class was over, Katie texted Kelley Close, her mom, to check in and found out Hannah "was sad but didn't know why". On hearing this, Katie asked if she could pay a short visit the next day. Kelley said yes.

"Today her teacher came over and hung out for some time." Kelley wrote on Facebook." They chatted, read books, and just talked. Though this woman has five kids at home, she kept social distancing (距离) with my daughter and sat in my driveway for an hour to make sure Hannah was okay."

For Katie, spending time with Hannah wasn't a waste of time. "Seeing my student upset, I knew I had to show her I care for her," the teacher explained. "She told me she couldn't understand the math lesson and that she felt bad about that. I just explained the lesson to her again and told her to do more math practice. Talk to your teacher. A short discussion can clear up the clouds between two persons. Always be polite and show admiration. Express yourself bravely and show the ideas from your heart.

Ask your teacher how you can do well in class.

Teachers have years of education and experience in the subjects they teach. Learning more about this fact helps make a good relationship between you and your teacher.

Discussing the best ways to succeed in class shows your teacher you care about the class.

Learn to understand his teaching method. Sometimes, the reason why you don't like your teacher is the way he runs the classroom. If you're used to a very relaxing class, learning to develop in a strict environment is difficult. In fact, giving yourself time to accept this new style of teaching is possible.

If you don't know what your friends are doing, will you get anxious (焦虑的) ? Fifty- one percent of teenagers said yes when they were asked this question in a recent study. The fear that "I'm absent while others might be having fun" is called FOMO — fear of missing out.

FOMO pushes you to check the social media (社交媒体) more often. This can make you become more easily affected (影响) by others. You may feel sad, lonely and bored if you start to experience FOMO.

So, what can we do to deal with it?

    Change your focus

You should stop worrying about what you may be missing out on. Instead, try to focus on the good things you have already been doing. Use your spare time to do things you enjoy, such as painting or playing soccer.

    Keep a diary

By keeping a personal diary, you will learn to be more grateful for the great things you have in your life. You will realize that you are the only one who has control over your life, not the Internet. ….

    Build up real connections

When you feel lonely, why not meet up with people in real life? Talking with your family or taking part in a group activity can help you feel better.

As long as you live in the moment, you'll never miss out on anything in your life!

No matter where you are, humans are always checking time. Some of us are good at it—planning and doing things way ahead of time(提前), while others are always in a hurry. And that's only if you're on time. What if you are late?

So, how late is late? Many cultures take timekeeping very seriously, while others seem to accept lateness as just a common way of things. In different countries, people's opinions are different. In Latin America, things may happen five minutes, twenty minutes,an hour or even two after they were planned. In Sri Lanka, lateness is a part of the daily habit. In Rwanda, this is a place where it is not unusual to arrive at 11 a.m. for a meeting which started at nine.

On the other hand, German and Japanese people have a stricter view about time. In Japan, it is common to arrive ahead of time to attend a meeting. Those who arrived at nine to a meeting starting at nine a.m. would be late in other people's view. In Germany, however, if a dinner party were to begin at eight, a person who arrived five minutes earlier may walk around the block to make sure that they get there at eight on time, without being too early or late.
