The hug
The phone rang. It was Lisa, my 86-year-old friend, calling. Lisa was wondering if I could take her to Flint to see the1. I promised her I could, so on the date of the appointment(预约) I drove over to her home to pick her up.
Lisa's eyesight was2, so she wasn't able to drive her car anymore. However, she still kept her old white Cadillac and insisted that I drive it whenever we went anywhere.
Lisa's appointment went3and she was really satisfied with her doctor. Then, we were on our way to get a bite to eat. It was a cloudy day without any rain or snow, but the road was still busy. The4stopped and went as we were in an area by the market. We were at a5stop when someone hit from behind. Lisa was very angry, and she even started to say some dirty words in a low voice. I could6that this situation could get very bad.
There really wasn't any reason why someone should rear-end(追尾) the car so I wasn't sure what was going on when I pulled over. I was feeling a little7when I got out of the car. As I walked around the car a young woman got out of the car with anger! I could see all the other doors on her car starting to open. For some unknown8, I walked over to this young woman and put my arms around her and gave her a hug. When I gave her a hug all the other doors shut!
Lisa got out and when she saw me hugging this girl she9down. I called the police and they came out and took a report. I really don't know what was actually going on that day. I do know that I just wanted to hug this girl in my mind and I believe it10us all from what could have been a very ugly scene.
The earth is our home. We must take care of it. Life today is easier but there, are some new problems. One of the biggest problems is pollution. Pollution comes in many forms. It is beginning to harm our health and even our life.
Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there weren't so many people. In other words, the more people, the more pollution. Now man is slowly polluting the whole world.
Air pollution is still the most serious. It's not good for living things in the world:
Many countries don't let people burn anything bad for air in houses and factories in the city. SO2 is now the most dangerous pollution. It's partly caused by heavy traffic. People say it's best to ride a bicycle. Riding makes less pollution. But most people don't go to work by bicycle. It's not because bicycles are expensive or people are tired. It's because cars are more convenient(方便的) ,so more people
go to work by car，and then the situation is getting worse and worse. We should make it so difficult and expensive for drivers to drive their cars into the city. They will go back to use their bicycles.
