There's more to enjoy in the city this summer than beaches. Some of Toronto's biggest attractions have new and exciting features for summer 2016, both indoors and outdoors. Here's a look at what's new this summer.
Art Gallery of Ontario
If you're looking to get some culture, there's plenty to see and do at the Art Gallery of Ontario, including art exhibits and collections from around the world. Right now there's Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musee National Picasso, Paris, which runs until August 26.
Canada's Wonderland
Just outside the city limits is Canada's Wonderland, the biggest theme park in Canada. This year sees a lot of new additions to the park, most notably Leviathon, one of the world's longest and tallest roller coasters. There's also an interactive dinosaur park, stage shows for the kids and Splash Works water park.
Casa Loma
The city's only historic castle is a great place to take the kids for a day of exploration through the castle grounds, gardens and stables. The venue has many events going on throughout the year, and this summer's activities include archery courses and Teddy Bear Picnics for kids aged two and up.
Black Creek Pioneer Village
The village features people dressed up for the 19th century, living the old fashioned way. There are gardens, farms filled with animals and more than 30 historical buildings to explore. During the week visitors can tour the grounds, meet with historians, practice Victorian traditions, taste samples in the brewery and more. The site has activities on holidays, like a Revolutionary War reenactment and BBQ on Father's day and a Canada Day Celebration.
Toronto Zoo
The Toronto Zoo has more than 5,000 animals on display, including some new faces this year. A polar bear cub named Hudson made his debut (首次演出) in March, and starting in May there is a pair of rare White Lions in the African Savannah section. Be sure to stay for informative talks and presentations from the animal handlers, presented daily.
I am different from the rest of my family in appearance. When people see us together, it is clear that I am adopted, because I am a Chinese girl while they are all Americans. I'm happy that I have such a loving and caring family, but sometimes I wish I knew who my birth parents are.
People may wonder if I am sad that I don't know who my parents are. I know they are concerned about me. I feel like there is something missing in my life, like a big hole in my heart. My teacher listened when I told her about my feelings, and she thought she should do something. Encouraged by my teacher's strong recommendation, Mom and I went to Chinese Heritage Camp of Snow Mountain Ranch. Now, we take part in it every year.
Chinese Heritage Camp is a two-day camp where hundreds of adopted kids like me spend time with each other. We feel close to each other. We understand each other. We talk about how it feels to be adopted, and we take part in fun outdoor activities. It's great because we can talk about our feelings freely without worrying about other things. We talk, laugh, cry, and dance. It makes me feel like I'm not alone, and that there is someone out there going through the same feelings.
Now if I am asked that question, I will answer, "Maybe I won't know who my birth parents are forever, and that made me a little sad. But I do know that I live with my real parents in a real house, with loving and caring family members. I'm thankful, and I love my life just the way it is. "
Teenagers drink. It's a known fact among our society. People think that they do it to fit in, or to be cool, or to have fun. Although they may be the case for some, the true causes are much more severe. Many do it to escape, or they have no choice in the matter. Knowing and understanding these true causes will make it easier to deal with and treat.
Alcoholism usually runs in the family. A study done by the University of California, San Francisco, showed that about 25% of children of alcoholic families will become alcohol addicts. Therefore, teenagers who have alcoholic parents are more likely to develop alcohol addiction.
Teens are at a higher risk of drinking alcohol because they are more likely to feel more self-conscious about themselves than adults. They are more anxious to create good impressions on their classmates and friends, therefore turning to alcohol. Also, teens believe that drinking makes them feel better, look smarter, or appear cooler.
Teenagers who use alcohol report that the guidance from their parents is often lacking. There is usually a communication gap between the parents and the child.
But you can deal with it well. Know your teenagers and talk with them. Understand what they are going through at school, and know who their friends are. A simple conversation each day can help; in other words, communication is the key. Allow them to enjoy their risky behavior under your supervision. You don't have to be an annoying one in your teenager's life, to be a part of it.
Physical education(体育), or PE, isn't required for all high school students. In some schools, it isn't offered for some different reasons. But should high school students receive physical education? The answer is certainly "Yes."
Today many people don't do sports. But as is known to all, doing sports is very important for an adult. Teaching teens the importance of a healthy lifestyle and making fitness plans now can help teens put exercise in the first place as an adult.
The American Heart Association says that 10 million kids and teens suffer from obesity(肥胖症). The increase in activities that don't get teens to move around, such as computer games, means many teens don't get their required exercise. PE classes act as a public health measure to encourage physical activities and help teens have healthy weights.
Not doing sports increases teens' hazard of developing many diseases. An active lifestyle offers a good way of protection from these health problems. As much as 75 percent of health-care spending goes toward treating medical conditions that can be prevented by lifestyle changes, according to the American College of Sports Medicine.
According to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN), students who performed five hours of physical activity each week improved their academic(学业的)performance. Students from programs with no physical activity, who used the extra time for classroom study, did not perform better on tests than those who gave up some study time in support of physical education.

According to a recent survey, violence did exist in schools. Students showed their fear and parents and teachers also (express) their great concern about it. Experts hope whole society should pay more attention to the mental health of teenagers.
Nowadays, school violence is a hot topic, which (call)for our great concern. We should make every effort (prevent) violence happening at school because more and more students would drop out of school if their personal (safe) could not be guaranteed(保证). In fact, violence can be imitated. (actual), children learn violent behavior from adults or from they see on television or on the Internet.
If I meet with school violence, I will not answer violence with violence, for it will result in (much) fighting. I will tell my teachers and parents about it. I think they will help me deal with it well and they will protect me the bad guys.
All in all, we students should behave (we) and keep away from violence.
