The Spring Festival in 2020 was really special when China was making an effort to fight against the COVID-19. As a Chinese, what should we do to show our civility during this period? Let's take a look.

Sima Guang Smashed the Vat(砸缸)

Sima Guang was a Prime Minister and outstanding historian of the Northern Song Dynasty. He devoted (奉献) his life to writing the classical chronicle "Historical Events Retold as a Mirror for Government" (Zi Zhi Tong Jian). At the age of seven, he once played hide and seek (捉迷藏) with other children in the garden. One child wanted to hide in a big vat, which was unexpectedly full of water. The other children were frightened and broke up in a hubbub(一哄而散), where as Sima Guang remained there. The water flushed out.

When this story became known extensively，people drew a picture for it, which was spread out in Kaifeng and Luoyang.

There are many things that are out of control in a world. Working on self-disciple (自律) not only gives you more self-control, but also improves your confidence. Here are some ideas.

. If your goal is to become more self-disciplined, you have to do something    every day to achieve that goal. Goals may seem difficult at first, but practicing all the time can help you get there finally.

. Once you have schedule and your action plan in place, the next step is to carry them out. Sticking to your plan needs discipline. The longer you stick to your plan, the more disciplined you'll be.

. Actively deciding and coming up with plans help you reach your goals and become more disciplined. For example, wanting to live a healthier life is a good goal to have. However, you also have to decide how you are going to do?

. Friends or family members whom you admire for their self-discipline can be your role models. Ask them how they set out to achieve their goals.

. Well-balanced meals have some relationship with mental health as well as physical health. If you're not sure what a healthy meal look like, do some research on it.

When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.

Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.

Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say. If you listen well in class, you'll have less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.

When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher mentioned in class. Practice makes perfect! You will remember the knowledge longer.

The purpose of a test is not only to show what you have learned about a subject, but you can also use your new knowledge in other ways. So don't worry if you don't pass a test.

A. To pour oil on troubled waters

"To pour oil on troubled waters" means trying to calm things down. Oil is lighter than water. If a ship is in trouble at sea, another ship may come to help it. The second ship can send small boats to rescue people. However, it may first pour oil on the sea to make the sea less rough.

B. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush

If I'm a hunter, trying to catch birds, it's better to catch one bird than to see two birds in a bush but not be able to catch them. Thus this means that what you have already got is better than the chance of being able to get something bigger in the future.

C. He who pays the pipe calls the tune

A pipe is a musician. The man who employs or pays a musician can say what tunes the man will play. Thus this means that if a man provides the money for a plan, he can say how it will be carried out.

D. Once bitten, twice shy

If a dog bites me, I shall be twice as careful in future when I see it. This proverb is applied to many things and not only to dogs. If you have been cheated at a shop, you will not go to the same shop again.

E. You can't get blood out of a stone

"You can't get blood out of a stone" means that you can't get something from a person who has not got any of the things you want. For example, you can't expect a million dollars from a poor man.

F. Don't be a dog in a manger

This means "don't be selfish". In a stable, the manger is the place where the horse's food is put. Sometimes a dog will sleep in the manger and bark when a horse comes to get its food. The dog doesn't want to eat the hay in the manger and bark when a horse eat it.

In an art studio in Wuhan, Hubei province, a delivery worker busily packed 1,500 original Chinese ink drawings and works.  He hadn't left his studio for two weeks.

But these works represented only a part of Rong's large project to say thanks to the medical workers who helped Wuhan defeat COVID-19. They are the most recent batch of art in a project, which he will spend three years completing

 He sent them around the country to thank the medical workers.

Rong draws cows and mice with the Chinese characters "shi shu bu yi" (meaning not easy) and "niu zhuan qian kun" (meaning to bring about big changes). "I want to express my thanks to the medical workers who helped Wuhan last year," Rong said. "Wuhan could not have recovered so soon without their sacrifice and hard work."

The artworks include beautiful postcards, notebooks and stamps. Some of Rong's works were donated to the National Museum, local museums and art centers to add to their collections.

To show support for Rong, a large delivery company, BEST, contacted him to say they were willing to deliver the works free of charge.

What is life's greatest gift? It is choice. Choice is the ability to choose some actions from a set of things to achieve a goal. The reason is that it turns us from dumb animals into artists. Choice becomes the tool we use to sculpt our life. The tool doesn't come free，however，for the price of choice is responsibility. It is enjoyment.

Choice is power. Choice is at the heart of life. It's the creative power of life. Life is always changing and we have to make lots of choices. We often need to check where we are on our journey. We need to ask questions: Am I moving closer to my goal? If not, what action will I take now to make myself realize my goals?

And our life becomes more convenient or comfortable because of them. For example，you decide which stores to shop at and which bus station to go to. But the decisions that we make to sculpt our life are much more important than deciding where to shop. The more we understand the difference between small and big decisions，the more pleasure we will get.

Life is like a chess game. All chess lovers realize that it isn't necessary to win to enjoy the game. Make the best moves you can under the conditions. Then you can enjoy your life.

Most people learn the importance of the magic words "please" and ""thank you" at a very early age. As you go through life, you see better things happen when you don't forget to say them, and that people warm up to you more quickly.

Please. This is one of those words that can show good manners. Any time you ask for something, it's always a good idea to add this word to soften the request.

. When someone does something nice for you or gives you a gift, you should always say, "Thank you," even if it's something you dislike. Not doing so gives the impression that you feel entitled (有资格的) to whatever it is.

May I ...? For example, when you say, "May I see that book?"" you give the persona chance to share what he is looking at.

Excuse me. This expression is used .when you are asking forgiveness (原谅) for leaving the table, coughing, or troubling somebody.

Pardon me. The expression "Pardon me" sounds more formal(正式的).

Polite language is always helpful. Why not use it? It might actually win you a few friends and help you get ahead in different situations.

CCTV reported that every year Chinese people throw away a lot of food which can feed 200 million people for a year.

 Of course not. According to the UN World Food Programme, there were 900million hungry people all over the world in 2013. About six million children die of hunger every year.

So think about it. We should say no to people who waste food every day. An old saying goes, "Every grain on the plate comes from hard work. "Luckily, a number of people have realized the importance of saving food. Li Hong, a waitress in a restaurant in Jiangsu, once lost her job because she took some leftover(剩余的) food home for her son. But many people were by her side and criticized(批评)the waste of food.

What should we do in our daily life to stop wasting food? Here are some tips:

Don't order too much food in a restaurant. If you can't eat all the food you order, take the rest of it home.

Don't be too picky(挑剔的)about food. Don't keep too much food at home, especially for fruit and vegetables.
