Beijing Opera appeared in the Qing Dynasty. In 1790, many opera troupes(戏班) went to Beijing for performances to celebrate the birthday of Qianlong. This kind of unusual performance touched the hearts of the people deeply. While in Beijing, the troupes created a new kind of opera called Beijing Opera. It was on the basis of Anhui Opera by taking in the advantages of other operas.
Beijing Opera is quite unique in role shaping because it divides the roles into different kinds. They are sheng, dan, jing and chou which are quite different in many ways.
A popular song goes like this, "Foreigners call Jingxi Beijing Opera. " In fact, Beijing Opera is different from opera. Opera tells the story and expresses the thoughts by singing instead of speaking. But Beijing Opera stresses chang, nian, zuo and da. Chang means singing, nian means musical spoken parts, zuo means dance movements and da means martial(武打) skills.
Mei Lanfang was an excellent performing artist of Beijing Opera in China. In 1930, he led an opera troupe to America and presented Beijing Opera before Western people. Today, Beijing Opera has become the sign of Chinese culture. It is changing with the development of different musical styles.
Most students in America like popular music. Students carry small radios with earphones and listen to the music before class, after class and at lunch. Students with cars buy large speakers and play the music loudly as they drive on the street.
Adult drivers listen to the music on the car radio as they drive to work. They also listen to the news about the sports, the weather and the life of American people. Most of the radio programmes are music.
Popular music singers make much money. They make a CD or tape which radio stations use in many places. Once the popular singer is heard all over the country, young people will buy his or her CDs or tapes. Some of the money from them goes to the singer. Wherever the singer goes, most of the young people want to meet him or her. Now the singer has become a national star.
There are other kinds of music that are important to Americans. One is called folk music which tells stories about the common life of Americans. Another is called western or country music. It was started by cowboys who would sing at night to the cows which they were watching. Today, any music about country life and the love between a country boy and his girl is called western or country music.
People from all over the world have different wedding traditions and marriage customs. The one thing that all wedding ceremonies commonly seem to have is the commitment (承诺) of love for all time during a public ceremony.
Everyone at a wedding hopes for great happiness between the wedding couple. Wedding traditions are usually a way of showing signs of the hope for great happiness. Some of these traditions are very interesting.
In Sweden, the traditional bride will wear three rings by the end of the wedding ceremony. The first is the engagement (订婚) ring that she entered the ceremony with. The second, the wedding ring, is added to the first. A final ring, however, is added as well. This ring is known as the "motherhood" ring. This is said to show that marriage is about more than just love. It is about building a family.
Wedding traditions in the Philippines, a dance which can last for hours. During the Philippines, guests pin (用大头针别住) money to the bride's dress to pay for their honeymoon.
A traditional Irish bride may wear a blue wedding dress — believing blue to be a lucky color. English Lavender (薰衣草) is often mixed with her wedding flowers. It is traditional for the bride to braid her hair (梳头发) — as it is considered a good way to bring luck to the new couple.
There are many wedding traditions around the world which may differ from what they are used to, but if you are about to plan a wedding, you may find it interesting to include some of these traditions in your own wedding.
Life is just like a box. Inside it are happiness and sorrow, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in it teach us new lessons and make us a better person.
Love
. Love makes you feel wanted. Without love a person could become cruel and violent. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with unconditional love and care. They tell us what is right or wrong, good or bad. But we always tend to take this for granted. It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands and becomes sensitive to the feelings of others. Kids make a person responsible and mature and help us to understand life better.
Happiness and sorrow
Materialistic happiness is shortlived, but happiness achieved by bringing a smile on others gives a certain level of fulfillment. No mind is happy without peace. We realize the true worth of happiness when we are in sorrow. Sorrow is basically due to death of a loved one, failure and despair. But these things are temporary and will pass away.
Failure and success
. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way.
Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope builds in patience. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day. Nothing remains the same. We have only one choice — keep moving on in life and be hopeful.
Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and be right or dull. , so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.
A. Hope and despair
B. So let's enjoy every day
C. Failure is the path to success
D. Success lies in trusting yourself
E. Love plays a key role in our life
F. So the only alternative is to work hard today
G. Peace of mind is the main link to happiness
I devote myself to music because of my grandmother. My mum and I lived with my grandparents from the time I was two until I was eight. And even then, I was at their house before and after school every day while my mother was 1.
Grandma loved music. It was she that first 2 me to Elvis Presley as a very young child, and once I heard his music, I was truly in3with it. Most five-year-olds ask for toys for birthdays, but I wanted Elvis' albums. I would play them non-stop and 4 to the music in my grandma's family room though my movements didn't look5.
Grandma played the piano and 6 me to sing "America the Beautiful" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow". I finally started playing music on the piano, and soon grandma was paying for me to take piano lessons from a lady living in the 7. I would come home from8 and walk there for my lesson. I 9 took about nine months of lessons, but it was enough to give me a foundation and allow me to continue to teach myself.
Last month when I came home to visit grandma in the hospital, I brought along my guitar with me. She was in great pain, but the music seemed to 10 her soul. She had me sing some songs and when I started to sing "Somewhere over the Rainbow", her weakened voice11 in with mine for a few lines. That experience was one of the most 12 of my lifetime and one I will certainly cherish forever. I told her of my music career and she was very 13 and said, "That's wonderful!" I 14 to play for her throughout the week I was home.
My grandma passed away two days ago. In my opinion, part of her will live on through every 15 I write or sing for her in my life.
