Language(语言)students often think they have memory(记忆力)problems. They worry because they can't remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn't with their memory. The problem is with how they study.
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term. When you se, hear, or read something, it goes fist into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is 1like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library. it's organized(有条理的). When you put away a book or memory. you can't just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
How can you do this with vocabulary? The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences that include it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example。if the word is "height", you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. All of these activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.

A little dog learns about this place and plans to visit it one day. When he gets there, he is very happy and goes into the house. He looks into the mirrors with his ears up high and his tail wagging as fast as it can. It is strange for him to see 1, 000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as his. He smiles and 1, 000 great smiles smile back to him, they are warm and nice. As he leaves the house, he thinks to himself, "This is a good place. I will come back and visit it often. "
In this same village, there is another little dog who often gets angry. The dog wants to visit the house too. He goes into the house with his head down. When he sees 1, 000 angry dogs looking back at him, he growls at them and is afraid to see 1, 000 little dogs growling back at him. As he leaves, he thinks to himself:" What a terrible place. I will never go back there again. "

The summer vacation is coming to an end. How many of you have burned the midnight oil to finish your homework over the last few days? When you get home from school, do you start working on your homework right away? Or the TV and computer games come first?
It can be hard to do things as we plan. They're called procrastinators(拖延症患者). Procrastination is a common problem for many people, in fact. Sometimes it just feels easier to wait until the last minute to do certain things. However, this is usually not a good thing, as you have to work harder and faster if you wait until there is little time left.
I myself am a bit of a procrastinator. But most of the time I try to finish my work earlier rather than later. If I finish my work now, I'll have more time to relax or work on other projects later. It can be hard to make myself get started sometimes. But once I do, the work gets done quickly with little stress.
It's a natural thing to do. You don't have to beat yourself up over it. After all, we still need time to relax and take a break from our busy lives. Just make sure you still get your homework done on time!

We all know that water is important to our lives. But how much water should we drink?
Usually for most of us eight glasses of water every day might be OK. But those who live or work in warmer environments need to drink more water. That is because they lose more water than us.
55~70% of our body is made up of water, but it cannot replenish (补充) water itself. So drinking water helps balance health. Here are some important rules about drinking water.
1. Drink often throughout the day to prevent dehydration (脱水). After getting up or one hour before meals, it is helpful to drink a glass of water.
2. Usually we can drink beverages(饮料)like tea or coffee instead of water. Of course, some fruit juice or milk has some water in them, but water is still the best drink.
3. Some people do not have the habit of drinking often. They only drink when they are thirsty. In fact, when we feel thirsty, the body is already short of water. It is too late to drink water.
4. In your office or your home, put a full glass of water out and drink from it whenever you see it. In this way, you are on the right path to drinking enough water.
