三、阅读理解
  • 9. (2022七下·启东期中) 阅读短文,回答问题

Language(语言)students often think they have memory(记忆力)problems. They worry because they can't remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn't with their memory. The problem is with how they study.

To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term. When you se, hear, or read something, it goes fist into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is 1like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library. it's organized(有条理的). When you put away a book or memory. you can't just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.

How can you do this with vocabulary? The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences that include it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example。if the word is "height", you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. All of these activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.

    1. (1) In the writer's opinion, students can't remember words because _______________.

    3. (3) The underlined (划线的)part in Paragraph 2 means long-term memory _________.
A . keeps many books like a large library B . works like a well-organized library C . provides any book you want D . leaves memory anywhere
    4. (4) Which is one example of "thinking about the word in new ways" in Paragraph 3?

He smiles and 1, 000 great smiles smile back to him, they are warm and nice. As he leaves the house, he thinks to himself, "This is a good place. I will come back and visit it often. "

In this same village, there is another little dog who often gets angry. The dog wants to visit the house too. He goes into the house with his head down. When he sees 1, 000 angry dogs looking back at him, he growls at them and is afraid to see 1, 000 little dogs growling back at him. As he leaves, he thinks to himself:" What a terrible place. • 11. 根据短文内容,从方框中选出五个句子放入文中空缺处,使短句内容通顺完整。

    A. It just makes everything easier.

    B. What about during the school year?

    C. Everyone procrastinates from time to time.

    D. At last your work will probably be of poor quality.

    E. Does everyone like the feeling of starting and finishing earlier?

    F. A lot of people often put off difficult or annoying tasks until they must be done.

The summer vacation is coming to an end. How many of you have burned the midnight oil to finish your homework over the last few days? When you get home from school, do you start working on your homework right away? Or the TV and computer games come first?

It can be hard to do things as we plan. They're called procrastinators(拖延症患者). Procrastination is a common problem for many people, in fact. Sometimes it just feels easier to wait until the last minute to do certain things. However, this is usually not a good thing, as you have to work harder and faster if you wait until there is little time left.

I myself am a bit of a procrastinator. But most of the time I try to finish my work earlier rather than later. If I finish my work now, I'll have more time to relax or work on other projects later. It can be hard to make myself get started sometimes. But once I do, the work gets done quickly with little stress.

It's a natural thing to do. You don't have to beat yourself up over it. After all, we still need time to relax and take a break from our busy lives. Just make sure you still get your homework done on time!
