Derek Rabelo was born in Brazil in 1992. His father called him Derek after a famous 1 star, Derek Ho. Derek's father wanted Derek to become a surfer, too, but there was a 2: unluckily, Derek was born 3 His father's dream to see his son surf seemed 4 !
When Derek was 17, his father told him about his 5. From that moment, Derek tried his best to become a surfer. 6 went to the beach every day and started taking surfing 7 with a coach. Derek kept trying and 8 , he learned to surf!
Derek explains that 9 he can't see, he understands the noises that the waves make and he can 10 them when they are coming. He says every part of a wave makes a different noise,11 he knows which direction to surf in.
In 2012, he flew to Hawaii to surf one of the most challenging and dangerous 12 in the world. Local surfers were very 13 to see the confident young man surf the huge wave with no problem 14.

My day began when I saw my six-year-old son Jonathan doing something in the garden by my azalea bush (杜鹃花丛). By the time I got 1 , I found he'd broken it! It was my favorite!
" Can I take this to school? " he asked, smiling. Though a bit unhappy, I nodded. Then I turned back to the broken bush and 2 it as if to say silently, " I'm sorry. " Later I pruned (修剪) it with great care.
The rest of the day, I was busy doing endless housework. Time had passed by fast 3 I realized it was already 3:00. Leaving the clothes in the washing machine, I hurriedly got to school to 4 Jonathan. When I got there, the teacher told me she wanted to talk about Jonathan.
What now? I thought.
I had prepared myself for the worst, 5 the teacher's words greatly surprised me. " Did you know Jonathan brought 6 to school today? " she asked. I nodded, thinking about my favorite bush. " See that little girl? " the teacher 7 . I saw a bright-eyed child busily drawing a picture with crayons. I 8 again.

Moham took the cake and his unexpected soda to a table and sat down to eat. Why was it that English had been so 9 for him in his classes in Tunisia, but when it came to 10 speaking, he couldn't even get what he wanted to eat？
Just then, a girl, who sat at the next table and had watched the whole 11, smiled at him and said, "Hey, welcome to our beautiful city！Don't feel 12 about your English-you'll get better at it 13 you've lived here for a while. I'm from Spain, and the first time I tried to order a salad here, I 14 with a plate of pig's feet. At least you got a soda！"
Hearing this, Moham felt much better. He wasn't the only one 15 to communicate, and his new city began to feel just a little more like he could call it home.
Andy was throwing an empty box when a woman and her daughter ran over.
"You smell 1 !"Andy said to the woman.
The woman said, "I just want you to 2 me the box. It's how my daughter and I survive (生存)" "But it's just trash (垃圾)," said Andy.
"One person's trash is another person's 3," the woman said, reaching out her hand, "Can I have it?"

I couldn't find a 8, so we had to live on the streets. One day, I met a lady and she 9 me to make money by recycling boxes. I 10 her suggestion and our life changed after that..."
Hearing this, Andy got out of the car and 11 to the lady. "I am sorry for what I did. You're right. One person's trash is another person's treasure." Then his mother came over and was 12 to find the woman was just the lady who helped them out of trouble a few years ago. She said to the woman with 13," You did so much for us. It's my turn to 14 you. I would like you and your daughter to come and stay with us..." The girl and her mother were moved to tears.
There are always some people who give us unexpected 15. So wherever we are, be kind to people around us.
Matt loved science, and he wanted to be the Science Star of the week. Now he was presenting his experiment in Mrs. Perry's class.
"Let me show you 1 to keep an egg in the middle of the glass." Matt dropped an egg into salt water. But it fell to the bottom.
"Look, Matt's blushing!" Coco shouted. Matt, covered 2 red face with hands.
That evening he 3 The Book of Wonderful Science Experiments. When it came to the last page, he smiled. "This is the right experiment 4 me! It's impossible to fail this time."
The next day in front of his class, Matt spread small pieces of paper onto the desk and rubbed a spoon with cloth. "The spoon will lift up the paper." He raised the spoon, but 5 happened. The paper lay still.
"Matt's blushing again!" Emily pointed out. Matt was 6 and ran back to his seat with his red face.
"Becoming the Science Star seems so 7," Matt thought. That night he couldn't sleep, "I have to make it, but the only thing I could do right was blushing." … Suddenly, a 8 came to his mind.
The following morning, Matt appeared before the class again, 9 his Mickey Mouse ears.

"I've 13 many times to control blushing, but now I know it's a normal part of being human. So the best thing to do is to 14 it." The class cheered and Matt's red face lit up the whole classroom.
"Matt is the Science Star of the week," Mrs. Perry announced. Matt walked 15 back to his seat. What a perfect day!
Poor Grandma! I wish we could do something to cheer her up. " Amy said to her brother Mark.
Grandma had fallen and broken her 1. The doctor said she would be in bed for six weeks. Grandma was very active and loved to 2 in her garden, so she would not like sitting in her chair 3 her leg to become well again.
"I have a(n) 4, " said Mark. "I saw some pictures of terrariums (栽培盒)in a magazine. Terrariums are little indoor gardens that can be 5 in glass bottles. Lei's make a terrarium for Grandma, so she can enjoy a garden in her house. "

The first time Hank, a two-year-old-cat, went out of his yard, he got stuck in a 60-feet-tall tree for five days, with no food or water.
One day last November, when Delores, the 1, returned from a market, she found Hank didn't come in for his lunch. As it got 2, she began to look for him around the house. Then she heard the mew of a cat, 3, and saw Hank on her neighbor's tree. He must have climbed onto the tree while some dogs were running after 4, and became too afraid to climb down.
Delores, now very 5 called the fireman immediately. But it was not easy, as they didn't have a ladder（梯子） tall enough to 6 the cat. She asked a tree company for help them. 7, they failed for safety reasons.
The poor owner could do nothing but sit 8 the tree and call to Hank. A kind neighbor offered her some cat food. 9 it would make the hungry cat come down. Nearby dog owners took their pets for 10 instead of letting them out in their yards, so that Hank would not climb even 11 with fear.
Nothing had worked until it come to day five. 12 Lydia, another neighbor, talked of a clever way of getting the cat down from a tree. Delores decided to 13 it at once.
