A mother and her daughter lived in a village. Every night, mother would lock the door with three locks, because she was afraid that a thief might come in.
As time went by, the daughter became tired of her (bore) life there, and dreamed to go to the city to see the outside world. One day, she left home without (say) goodbye to her mother. "Forget me, Mom." She thought.
But the outside world wasn't as good she thought. Ten years (late), she came back home with a tired body and mind.
When she got home, it was dark. She knocked at the door, but nobody answered. Surprisingly, she found that the door was (lock). She came in and saw her mother (lie) in bed, sleeping. Tears ran down her face. Hearing the cry of (she) daughter, the mother woke. They hugged and (cry). After a while, the daughter asked, "Mom, why haven't you locked the door I left?" Her mother answered, "I was afraid you wouldn't be able to get in when you came back."

Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe, England, on December 25, 1642. He was born early and he was very weak. No one believed he could continue to live. But he surprised everyone. He had one of the most powerful minds. And he lived until he was 84.
Newton's father died before he was born. His mother married again a few years later. She left Newton with his grandmother.
The boy was not a good student. Yet he was curious (好奇的) and liked to make things,kites, clocks and simple machines. Newton also enjoyed finding new ways to answer questions or solve problems. As a boy, for example, he wanted to find a way to measure (测量) the speed of the wind. On a windy day, he measuredhe could jump with the wind at his back. Then he measured how far he could jump with the wind in his face. From the difference between the two jumps, he made his own measurement of the power of the wind.
Strangely, Newton became a much better student after a boy kicked him in the stomach. The boy was one of the best students in the school. Newton decided to get even (报复) by getting higher marks than the boy who kicked him. In a short time, Newton became the top student at the school.
Newton left school to help on the family farm. However, the boy was not a good farmer. He spent his time solving Maths problems rather thanthe farm. He spent hours visiting a bookstore in town,selling his vegetables in the market. An uncle believed that Newton would do better as a student than as a farmer. So he sponsored (资助) the young man into University of Cambridge to study Maths.
