Pictures of Thanksgiving in the United States usually show happy families with big turkeys in the center. At my house, that moment lasts maybe 10 seconds.
Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November each year. People go back to their hometown to greet their friends and family.
On Thursday morning, the family members are busy cooking the big meal. If the weather is bad—as it always is—families stay at home. By noon, my aunt Karla has too much wine and people are hungry, but it takes time to cook a turkey. When dinner is ready around 2:00 p. m. , everyone says something they are thankful for. I'm always thankful that someone takes the wine away from Aunt Karla.
This is when things heat up (变热闹). My uncle talks about his kids. Aunt Karla finds another bottle of wine. Grandma says that she makes better pumpkin pie.
With Aunt Karla falling asleep on the sofa, we leave quickly to the theater. It's always full of people on Thanksgiving. I guess my family isn't so different from the rest!
