No one wins all the time. Learn from the times that you lose. All great champions were once losers at some point. But, they learned. And they kept an active attitude until they got better.
Your happiness is up to you. Many people forget about this. Truly successful people choose happiness no matter what their present situations are.
Changes lie in what you do every day. You do the same work. You eat the same foods. You wear the same clothes. Try a new way. Take a new path. Even talk to someone new.
Chances are everywhere. Even the worst situations have chances. Seize the chance, and seize the time. That's the secret of success.
A. Choose to Be Happy
B. Do Something New
C. Look for the Chance
D. Learn from Losing
When you stay away from your home for a long time, you start to miss your good old bed, your good old parents. Believe it or not, you are feeling homesick. You can help yourself to feel less homesick. Here is some advice:
① If you are going away from home, bring your favourite pajamas (睡衣). You can also bring some pictures of the people who you may miss. You can look at them any time you want.
② The busier you are, the less time you'll have to feel homesick. Spend your free time on music, sports or books. Try to join in activities wherever you are.
③ You can make a plan of when you will call your mum or dad. You can also keep in touch with family and friends by emails or text messages.
④ Sometimes, telling someone that you are feeling a little homesick will help you feel better. Maybe you can tell a friend that you feel homesick and the two of you can do something fun.

A good book can help you learn more things than you can learn in class. If you want to get into a good reading habit(习惯), here are a few ways.
Plan your time
You should give yourself at least thirty minutes for reading every day. When time is set, nothing can change it.
Always carry a book
Wherever you go, take a book with you. When you leave the house, make sure that you always carry a good book as well as your school things.
Find a quiet place
Find a place in your home where you can read a book quietly and no one will trouble you. There should be no television, computer, music or even noisy family members around you.

Reading is a good habit, but the problem is that there's too much to read, and too little time to read every word of it. So ①we need to find good ways to read faster. There are hundreds of skills (技巧) to help you read more in less time. Here are two skills that I think are especially good.
Preview (预看) —if it's long and hard. This skill is especially useful for ideas of heavy reading like long magazine articles (文章) and business reports (报告).
Here's how the preview goes.
●Read the first two paragraphs (段落) and the last two paragraphs carefully.
●Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
This skill doesn't give you all the details (细节, 详情). It stops you spending time on things you don't really want or need to read.
Skim (略读)—if it's short and simple (简单的). Skimming is a good way to get ideas of light reading like popular magazines or sports and entertainment (娱乐) papers.
Here's how to skim.
●Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep across each line.
●Pick up only a few ②key words in each line.
Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same piece, but we'll get a similar (相似的) idea of what it's mainly about.

Car Free Day encourages drivers to give up their cars for a day to protect the environment. People from around the world get together in the streets to remind the world that we don't have to accept the society full of cars. It was first started by 34 cities in France and September 22 is Car Free Day. The first Car Free Day in China was in Chengdu in 2001. The slogan for the day is "If we drive for one less day, we can have one more nice day."
Organized activities are held in many cities on Car Free Day. In Brussels, Car Free Day shall be valid (有效的) for everybody except persons with a special permit(许可证), but they have to slow down to the speed of 30 kilometers per hour. The public transportation is free on that day. In London, they have special "green areas". Walking, biking and public transportation are encouraged. The streets are open only to walkers, bicycles and buses from 7: 00 a. m. to 7: 00 p. m. In Beijing, it asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. More and more people are joining in the activity. In the first quarter of this year, Beijing only had 52 blue sky days, and you may see haze(雾霾) almost every day! We must do more for Car Free Day as a Beijing driver said, "We may not change the weather, but we can choose not to drive."
But we do not want just one day and then a return to "normal" life. We should go on with Car Free Day.

My name is Jerry Zhang, and I am a father of two young daughters -- one is about four years old and the other is only about one.我来自中国,现在住在美国。
One day, my older daughter, Madison, told me she didn't want to be Chinese. Those days she was quite interested in the book characters (角色) Madeline and Eloise. She asked me all the time why she was Chinese and they weren't, and how she could have yellow or red hair like them.
This made me look for books with Asian (亚洲的) characters for Madison to read. However, I only found a few, and they were heavily cultural (文化的) and Madison didn't connect herself with any of the characters in them. And she wash' t interested in them at all Then she told me again that she didn't want to be Chinese, and it made me sad.
In most of the books for children in the US, the characters look like Americans. There are over 17 million Asians and Asians and Americans in this count, but few of them have Asian faces. I think it's important for Asian children to see themselves in books as interesting and clever kids.
So I created (创作) a book for Madison. Pepper Zhang in the book is an Asian girl. Her imagination (想象) takes her on a trip to creativity and art I want my children to know that being Chinese or being Asian is a great thing too.
Because of this,I looked for books with Asian characters to let Madison read.
The tiger is the largest wild cat in the world. The big cat weighs about 363 kilograms and is about two metres long.
Tigers wait until it's dark, then they go out to find their food. When a tiger sees an animal, it moves very quietly, then jumps on the animal to kill it. It can take several days for a tiger to finish eating its kill. The tiger stops eating until it has had enough, and then it covers the dead animal with leaves. Later, when the tiger is hungry again, it comes back to eat more.
Tigers are different from others in the cat family: they like water, and they often jump into rivers to swim.
Some tigers live in very cold places--in parts of North Korea, Eastern Russia and Northeast China. Other tigers live in warm places一in India and parts of southeast of Asia.
All tigers are in danger. People kill them to use their skin for clothes and their bones for medicine. In addition, there is also less and less land for tigers to live on. But now people know that tigers are in danger and have made plans to protect them.
