Jack and I are good friends. We tried to walk across the United States of America. We're not exactly sure why we were doing it. Part of (its) was to test ourselves; to see we could face the challenges. When I was a teenager, I often daydreamed that I was going to walk across the United States after (graduate) from high school., I didn't do that.
Before I knew it, I was my thirties，married, a job, yet still had this idea in my mind with each passing year. I figured I was too old and my opportunity (pass). Then, a few years ago, I met Jack, who (be) thirty-five years old and quit his job as a civil engineer in New York City to walk across the United States. He wasn't doing it for a cause as part of an organization. He was doing it (simple) because he loved to walk and discover. The idea was back and I no longer had an excuse. We planned on averaging 20 miles a day and taking some days off (rest), so we expected that the walk will take about 6 months, realizing it could take (long). We were in no hurry: The total distance would have been about 3,100 miles.
Nature is the best laboratory for learning about nature. For ten years, every student at Wadsworth Middle School has been looking forward to his or her turn to attend a threeday science camp.Science camp is important to the students, and we must raise the money necessary to save it.
Without science camp, students will miss out on a unique learning experience. In science class, they learn to identify rocks by picking them up out of a box.Science camp also lets students experiment with different forms of energy. For example, students get to build miniature (微型的) steam engines that are powered by campfires. They also make solar panels that heat camp water. These experiences would be tough to create in a classroom.
Science camp is for everybody, and it won't be saved unless everybody helps raise money for it. To get started, Principal Jeffries and the student council could set up a "science camp fund (资金)" at a local bank. Every year, science camp costs $3,000.
Some people say it's too much work to save science camp, but the fact is that if we all help out, we can reach our goal easily. For example, we could hold a talent auction (拍卖). By washing cars, babysitting, or using other talents, students can meet the goal. We could also hold a bake sale. Students could even ask local businesses to sponsor them.
If we all work together, we'll easily raise the money to save it.

Haze Mabry has been working as a cleaner at Pike County Elementary School for 13 years. Students and teachers in this school decided to do something extra special last week to1Mabry, or "Mr. Haze" as he's known at the school, for his 80th 2.
Reading teacher Lori Gilreath who has worked with Mabry for 10 years said they3the celebration for weeks and that keeping the plans 4 was a challenge since Mabry works from 6:30 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. They 5 a "birthday throne" for him on the school's stage and lined the walls with photos of Mabry with the 6 and other decorations with the theme "80 years loved, 80 years blessed". The students also 7 80 reasons why they loved Mr. Haze. On the day before the 8 ， they turned Gilreath's classroom into a secret art center to finish the preparations. Mabry said he 9 her moving some tables around in the lunchroom, but he didn't give it much 10.
Next morning, they led Mabry on a parade through the school and more than 750 students,11 and staff members lined the halls, shouting 12"Mr. Haze! Mr. Haze！"
"It really surprises me and I feel 13. All little kids are giving me cards, running up and hugging me. It's something else, you know," Mabry said. "It's a (n) 14 experience."
Aged 80, Mabry said he likes to keep a busy schedule and loves the kids. "15 I'm able to work," he said, "I think I'll work."
