Nowadays China plays an increasingly significant role in world politics, economy and culture integration. As one of the most popular languages in the world, English have many differences between Chinese.
This is a brief introduction of the differences in Chinese and English Grammar to help those who have some basis in Chinese to learn this language easier.
English emphasizes on the structure, whiles Chinese focuses on the meaning. In English, several meanings can be expressed clearly with complicated structure in just one sentence. In Chinese, a sentence is usually short with little modifier (修饰语), or it will cause confusion in meaning.
When expressing the meaning, long sentence is regularly used in English and short sentence is used in Chinese. From point one above, we could conclude that English sentences are usually long and Chinese sentences are usually short. One should "Get the meaning, forget the words" in Chinese learning.
It has many clauses in English sentences which are often separated in small sentences in Chinese way of expression. In an English sentence, except some modifiers, it has a lot of clauses which makes a sentence much more complicated. In Chinese, one meaning is usually expressed in separated sentences connecting with comma.
In English people use pronouns a lot, but in Chinese people often use noun. In English, people not only use "we", "you", "she", "they", but also use "that" and "which" to keep a sentence well structured and clearly, and avoid repeat meaning. Due to short sentence structure, a pronoun is commonly replaced by a noun in Chinese expression.
The passive voice is often used in English expression; In Chinese, one usually uses the active voice. The passive voice is widely used in English, especially in some scientific articles. For example, "It is (always) stressed that..." is generally expressed as "People (always) stress that..." in Chinese.
Qian Hongyan waited on the starting block, supporting herself using her hands and torso (躯干). When the starting signal sounded, Qian pushed herself in. She won the silver medal in the women's100-meter breaststroke (蛙泳) SB5 final in the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities held in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in 2021.
Qian, from Luliang of Yunnan province, had both of her legs cut off after getting into an accident in 2000 when she was 4 years old. Her family were extremely poor. With little resources available, her grandfather cut up an old basketball to replace her lower body. Since then, she became well-known for moving around while balancing on an orange ball, earning her the nickname "basketball girl".
Qian's love for swimming dates back to 2007, when she was invited by the local disabled people's federation (残联) to watch the 2008 National Paralympic Games in Kunming, capital of Yunnan. At 11 years old, she, joined the provincial swimming team for people with disabilities. However, without legs, it was difficult for Qian to keep her balance in water. "Swimming without legs is like rowing a boat without a rudder (船舵). I tended to swing due to a poor sense of direction." Qian said. To help her overcome the difficulty, her coach designed a special training plan for her. Every day, she practiced for at least four hours. She made great efforts to enhance her arm strength and balance.
In 2009, she won three gold medals in the provincial contests in Yunnan, as well as one gold medal and two silvers at national events. In 2014, she won another gold medal in the 100m breaststroke final in the Yunnan Provincial Paralympic Games. In the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, she placed ninth in the 100m breaststroke.
Qian's journey to create a future for herself, despite losing both legs in a tragic accident, has become the story that inspired thousands of disabled people in China.
Researchers have found that short and intense(剧烈的) stair climbing, which can be done almost anywhere, has great benefits for fitness.
The findings make the two most common excuses of couch potatoes untrue: no time and no access to the gym. "Stair climbing is a form of exercise anyone can do in their own home, after work or during the lunch hour," says Martin, a lead author of the study. "This research takes interval (间歇) training out of the lab and makes it possible for everyone."
Early studies have shown the benefits of stair climbing over continuous periods of time-up to 70 minutes a week, but researchers wanted to determine if interval training, which includes short and intense exercise separated by short periods of recovery, was a good way to improve heart fitness.
Researchers recruited(招募) 31 women and tested the effect of two different experiments, each of which required a 10-minute exercise period, including warm-up, cool-down and recovery periods. The exercise periods were done three times a week over the course of six weeks.
The first experiment included three, 20-second of continuous climbing in an "all-out" manner. The participants were then compared to those who went through the same experiment using an exercise bike which has already been shown to improve fitness.
For the second experiment, some women climbed up and down one flight of stairs for 60 seconds, an experiment which could be easily done at home.
Both experiments, each including a total time of 30 minutes a week, increased heart fitness, an important healthy marker that is connected with long life.
Raising teenagers can be both difficult and rewarding. They are becoming young adults. Almost all teenagers will have some behavioral outbursts(爆发) with their families during this period of life. Here are some ideas that may create positive experiences for teens and parents.
Have meals together. Mealtime is when we check in with each other. Eating meals together offers a way for parents and kids to share what is on their minds. It brings families closer by creating trust and understanding to help guide children through the challenges of the teen years.
As teens develop their own sense of independence, it gets harder to find time to talk. Talk in the car together, when doing dishes together, or any time you have a chance. Remember that no matter how big their problems seem, what most teens want is love and support.
Help them connect with their families and communities. During these years, help your teen learn that their words and actions matter.
Others may find connection through spiritual communities or from having more responsibilities at home. Connecting with families and communities also helps keep teens safe from riskier activity.
Find time to have fun together! What do you both enjoy? Playing chess? Going to be ballet? Volunteering in your community? Take time to have fun and enjoy each other's company. No one wants the attention of people they love to be focused only on what not to do. This is true for teenagers, too.
A. Talk with your teen.
B. Never try to control your child.
C. Parents have a role in keeping their teens safe.
D. Relaxing together helps them feel loved and valued.
E. This can be hard to do with busy schedules, but it is important.
F. Some teens learn this by playing in music bands or team sports.
G. But strong relationships can help teens and parents through hard times.
