There was once a boy longing for money so much, running to ask a contractor(承包商) of a high building, "How could I become as1as you when I grow up?"
With a look at the boy, the contractor2, "I would like to tell you a story first about three diggers. The first digger liked holding a spade(铁锹)3doing anything but saying that he wanted to be a boss. The second digger liked complaining about the long-time work. The third digger liked doing his work4. Several years later, only the third became the boss of the building company. Just go to buy a5shirt and work hard. "
The little boy could not understand the meaning of the story.6he asked the contractor to explain further.7to the workers nearby, he said, "They are all my workers. I cannot remember all of their8, and even I have no impression of some of them. But if you look carefully, you will9a man in red. He is working harder10all the workers. He is always the first to work every day and the last to leave. It is11his red shirt that makes him stand out. Maybe I will soon make him a leader of the workers."
"You know, I once worked harder than others. What's12, I wore a red shirt every day and kept working hard, just in order to make13noticed more easily. Soon my day14, and my boss noticed me and made me the leader of the workers."
"Success can only be born in15. Working hard is necessary to achieve their dreams, added by a good idea sometimes. I hope you can stick to your dream and start your journey right now."

Monday, January 21st
I'm a virus(病毒)for the common cold. It has been a long time since I infected(感染)humans last time. Today I tried to infect a boy in a primary school all day. His name is Sam. I waited on his desktop, and when he touched the desk I jumped on his finger. Unluckily, Sam didn't touch his eyes, mouth or nose. Then, right after class, he washed his hands. Now I'm full of soap and sitting in a sink!
Tuesday, January 22nd
This morning I jumped into the nose of Sam's best friend, Bill. Unluckily, the mucus(粘液)in his nose caught me. I thought it was over for me, when suddenly Bill sneezed while he was talking to Sam. I knew that would send me right into Sam's face! However, Sam quickly gave Bill a tissue, and Bill sneered into that instead! Infecting people is harder than I imagined.
Wednesday, January 23rd
I'm feeling very unhappy today. Some scientists caught my friend Harry and put him under a microscope. Harry is a flu virus and he's a dangerous little guy. Besides, Sam ate all his vegetables today. He's exercising, and he's getting eight hours of sleep every night. His body is too strong for me!
Thursday, January 24th
I tried to infect Sam again today, but he washed his hands five times and never touched his face! He also gave tissues to every student in his class who was sneezing. It's impossible to give him a cold! So I have to give up and I'm moving to another school.
One day, a dog discovers that he is lost in Africa.
Suddenly, he notices a leopard(豹子) heading rapidly in his direction planning to having something for lunch. The dog thinks, "I'm in deep trouble now!" Then he notices some bones(骨头) on the ground nearby and quickly sits down to chew(啃咬) on the bones with his back to the leopard.
Just as the leopard is about to jump over, the dog says loudly, "Wow, that was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here."
Hearing this, the leopard stops his action, and runs away into the trees at once. "Whew," says the leopard. "That was close! That dog nearly had me."
Meanwhile, a monkey has been watching everything from a nearby tree, and he thinks he can put this to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard.
So, off he goes. And the dog sees him going after the leopard with great speed, and thinks that something must be up.
The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and asks for the leopard's protection. The leopard is angry at being fooled and says, "Here monkey, jump on my back and see what's going to happen to that bad dog."
Now the dog sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?" But instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to them again, as if he hasn't seen them yet... and just when they get close enough to hear, the dogs says:
"Where's that damn monkey? ▲ , and he's still not back!"
What a clever dog!
A Pathway (路径) to Meaning in Life
When it comes to a meaningful life, we might think of love, happiness and health. A life filled with meaning is what most of us want for ourselves. Then, what makes a meaningful life?
Many researchers agree that a meaningful life comes down to three factors (因素): having long-term goals, believing that one's life matters, and feeling that one's life fits together and "makes sense".
But we believe there is more to consider. Sometimes life enables us to experience small moments of beauty. When people are open to appreciating (欣赏) such experiences, these moments may improve how they see their own life. We call this experiential appreciation (EA). EA is about the person feeling connected to events and being able to appreciate the value within the connection. It shows the discovery of and admiration for life's beauty.
We recently set out to better understand EA in studies. We were interested in whether EA had something to do with general judgment of meaning in life. If so, it could be a factor for meaningfulness.
In the first study, we had people rate (评估) their support for different methods of reducing stress. We found that people who managed stress by focusing on their appreciation for life's beauty also reported experiencing life as highly meaningful.
In the next study, we asked people to rate the degree to which they agreed with various statements, such as "I appreciate the beauty of life" and "I appreciate little things in life," as well as other statements that related to the three factors and a general sense of meaning in life. Our results showed that the more people reported that they were "appreciating life" and its many experiences, the more they felt their life was valuable.
In the following studies, we further looked at the connection between EA and meaningfulness. For example, we found that people who were asked to look back on the most meaningful event of the past week generally reported high EA in those moments.
All the results proved (证明) our theory true. But putting it into practice can be difficult. Our fast-paced lifestyles fill the day with goals. We try to get the highest output both at work and in spare time. This focus on future outcomes makes it all too easy to miss what is happening right now. We should slow down and let life surprise us.

Working Out through Online Videos
Physical exercise is good for our mind, body and spirit. Today, working out through online videos is becoming very popular. Since the Internet is (wide) used, it's very easy for us to do so. That means we can work out anytime anywhere.
One of my friends, Lin Fei, followed short workout videos to do (day) exercise. She said, "With live programs, I feel like working out with my friends, which (encourage) me to hold on to the last minute." Another friend of mine, Michael, told me that workout videos let him feel so comfortable. "To be honest, I have a fear of working out at the gym(健身房) because I don't like being watched others. Working out at home makes working out much more enjoyable." he said.
With their examples, I decided (give) it a try. When I told my plan to my elder sister, a P.E. teacher, she reminded me workout videos could be helpful but might still carry some problems.
"Without being with someone person, you will be less willing (愿意的)to work out to your best. Working out at the gym allows you to have advice in real time and get pushed harder." my sister said to me. " you really want to have a try, choose proper programs or videos. That's very important.
At her suggestions, I finally followed an online workout program with personalized help that is held for three months. the first period of training, I felt it very practical and helpful when I put in the right amount (量) of work along with a strong will. Compared with going to the gym, using online videos to work out is a much (cheap) and time-saving choice. But it can be difficult sometimes when I'm too lazy or too busy to stick to it.
