Today we can see that many people are cutting down the trees in the forests. A lot of1 land has become deserts. If we2 newspapers, we'll learn that the forests on the earth are getting smaller 3. We are cutting down large numbers of trees4 we need wood and farmland. Some 5 say that there will not be any great forests 6 20 or 30 years.
What will happen 7 the forests disappear? A lot of plants will die and the animals will8 their homes. In many places the new farmland will soon look 9 the old deserts. Crops will not grow there. There won't be enough 10, and the weather will get hot and dry.
Kimberley, from America, was one of the winners of the 2018 Chinese Government Scholarship(奖学金). "I feel nervous and excited, but I just can't wait to go," said Kimberley who would study at Zhejiang Normal(师范)University.
"I'm nervous because I'm flying halfway around the world by myself. And I know just a little bit of Chinese," she added. She hoped to improved her Chinese and make a lot of friends in China.
Kimberley was one of the 18 who received scholarships to study in China. Under the scholarship program, intonational students would be sponsored so that they could study and do research at Chinese universities. For them, it's a piece of good news because they could get help from this program.
Shelley, vice-president for Student Life, said, "Congratulations to you for having such a chance like this. Believe me —you're going to have a lot of fun leaning in China." Zhang Ping, a Chinese Official, mentioned, "You will not only have new knowledge, but also find many ways to enjoy the interesting Chinese culture and history."
What will you do with a huge bag of waste when you see the four waste bins in your community(社区)? They are "Wet", "Dry", "Recyclable" and "Harmful."
Many people know the importance of waste sorting, but they just don' t know what falls into which kind. This makes it see, a little time-taking and difficult.
As a pioneer city. Shenzhen is also taking steps to encourage people to do waste sorting. Not only has the government tried hard to tell the public about the different four kinds of waste through posters and media, but also it is going to give prizes to people across the city. The total prize is 62.5 million yuan. As long as they take part in waste sorting, everyone has a chance to get the money. The purpose is to help people form a green idea of thinking of waste sorting as a good behavior.
Take Meilin No. 1 Village as an example. After several months of efforts, most people there can now sort out kitchen waste before throwing it out between 7 p. m. and 9 p. m. each day at proper places. The amount of sorted kitchen waste has increased from several hundred kilograms to about two tons.
