Everybody, at some point in their lives, has experienced failure. It could be something as simple as not getting the job you wanted, or getting fewer marks even after hard work. But what makes you is not your failure, but how you get back up after being hit.
Once, a young school boy was caught in a fire accident in his school and was assumed that he would not live. His mother was told that he was sure to die, for the terrible fire had destroyed the lower half of his body. Even if he were to survive, he would be lame throughout his life.
But the brave boy did not want to die, nor did he want to be lame. Much to the amazement of the doctor, he did survive. But unfortunately from his waist down, he had no motor ability. His thin legs just hung there, lifeless. Eventually he left the hospital. But his determination to walk was unshakable. At home, when he was not in bed, he had to stay in a wheelchair. One day, he threw himself from the chair and pulled himself across the grass, dragging his legs behind him. He reached the fence, raised himself up and then began dragging himself along the fence, firmly determined. He did this every day, with faith in himself that he would be able to walk unaided. With his iron determination, he did develop the ability to stand up, then to walk on and off, then to walk by himself and then to run.
He began to walk to school, and then run to school, enjoying the joy of running. Later in college he was on the track team.
In February 1934, in New York City's Madison Square Garden, this young man who was not expected to survive, who would surely never walk, and who could never hope to run—this determined young man, Glenn Cunningham, ran the world's fastest mile.
A good example of the power of positive thinking and faith in oneself, Glenn Cunningham continues to be an inspiration for many, and his story, a brilliant evidence of how one can bounce back even when all difficulties are piled against one, to the degree that death seems the preferable choice.
My mother is a diligent and kind woman. She is very busy from morning till night. As a teacher, she works hard. Both my brother and I love her dearly as she loves us.
My mother has been teaching math at a middle school in my hometown. She goes to work early in the morning and does not return home until late in the afternoon. She treats them with patience and teaches them well. For her excellent quality and very good teaching results, she has been elected as a model teacher several times.
Every day, when she comes back home from work, she sets about doing housework, sweeping the living room and bedrooms or cleaning the furniture, and putting everything in good order. She seems to be busy all the time. As she has been very busy working every day, she looks older than her age. But she looks as cheerful and happy as ever. Mother never buys expensive dresses for herself, but she often buys some inexpensive but high quality clothes for us. She just eats a plain meal outside when she is too busy to cook herself. She lives a busy yet simple life, without any complaints.
Often she says to us, "work while you work, and play while you play. That is the way to be happy and gay. If you do not work, you will become lazy and be of no use to society What a piece of good advice this is! This advice of hers will always serve as a guide to my behavior. My mother is great indeed, and I always feel proud of her.

Life will be peaceful if you always do kind things. I teach my daughters to develop a habit of 1 others. The little acts of 2 give you opportunities to provide service for others. They can make you remember how great it feels to be kind and helpful.
We 3 in a rural (乡村的) area. Most of what we see is beautiful nature. One of the exceptions to the 4 is the rubbish that some people throw out of their car windows as they drive along the rural roads. One of the few 5 of living there is the lack of 6 public services, such as rubbish collection, which is common in the city.
A helping behavior that I practice regularly with my daughters is 7 rubbish in our neighborhood. My daughters often have a match to see who can collect the most rubbish. In fact, we enjoy it. We pick up rubbish in parks, on sidewalks, almost anywhere.

There are many other ways to 12 kindness for others. You may share a dinner with a beggar, visit 13 old people in the nursing home, or help the blind 14 the street. At the Nobel Prize Lecture on 7 December, 2015, an 84-year-old Chinese woman walked slowly on to the stage. She began to talk about the life-saving drug, artemisinin, which she had discovered the help of her team in the 1970s. The woman was Tu Youyou, the first Chinese female scientist (award) a Nobel Prize for her work.
Tu Youyou was born in Zhejiang Province, China, on 30 December, 1930. She (study) medicine at Peking University Health Science Centre. After graduation, she became a member of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. Later, she studied Chinese medicine for two and a half years with experts in the field from she gained a deep knowledge about traditional practices.
In 1969, Tu Youyou (choose) to establish a team to find a cure for malaria which killed (million) of people every year. Across the world, scientists had been trying to find a cure. They tested more than 240,000 chemicals with no success. However, Tu Youyou had an idea Chinese herbs might hold the secret. She researched hundreds of traditional recipes (connect) to anti-malarial cures. Then Tu Youyou and her team began using modern research methods to study these Chinese herbs one by one. They overcame many difficulties and at last Tu Youyou (brave) volunteered to be the first human subject and the test was a success. The medicine they discovered, artemisinin, has now become (effective) drug for fighting malaria in the world.
