The Orchard
I had a very nice meal at the Orchard restaurant. The food was lovely and the service was quite good. We chose to eat in the garden which was full of beautiful flowers and very relaxing. The only disappointment was the dessert-the apple pie was far too sweet and it was cold too. Apart from that it was an enjoyable evening. As for the price-what a bargain, excellent value for money!
Park InnThe best thing about Park Inn was the service -it was excellent. There was a warm welcome when we arrived and the waiters were very helpful all evening. However, the food wasn't as good. The menu looked interesting but the meals were rather tasteless. It's not a cheap restaurant and I wasn't happy to pay so much for boring food.
Richard's PlaceWhen we entered the restaurant, we were surprised by the lovely interior (内部的) design of it. So stylish, so modern! This is one of the most popular restaurants in town and it's very easy to see why. The food was great and excellent value for money but it was ruined by very, very poor service!
The RiversideIt was lovely sitting outside and looking over the river. There were lots of little lanterns(灯笼) and colored lights everywhere and it all looked very pretty. The food was good, nothing very special but quite tasty. The service was OK; we didn't have to wait too long for our food but the waiter never looked very happy! It's quite an expensive place but with the view I think it's quite good value for money.
Today was a really big day for me. The last time I spoke in class was three years ago and it was terrible. I tried to say the letter" W" and made that strange sound. Everyone laughed and I haven't spoken in class since.
But it's been going really well lately. I've got a great doctor and I'm allowed to use my computer in class all the time. And guess what? This is really big news! When I listen to music on my headphones I can speak without stuttering(结巴)!That's why I agreed to talk at the science fair today.
So I arrived at school early this morning to practise with my group. Our project is about using bacteria(细菌) to eat plastic. Unfortunately, when it was my turn to speak, I was so nervous that I chose the wrong music on my MP3 player. So instead of Mozart I was listening to my dance collection. The problem is that when I have dance music on the headphones I can't stop myself talking in the same rhythm (节奏)as the music. So it just sounds like I'm rapping(说唱)!
Most people in school had never heard me speak before. They were really surprised when I started doing a rap about bacteria that eat plastic. I could see they were laughing at me. But when I finished they all stood up and cheered.
After we finished, everyone wanted to know me. They didn't know about my secret use of the music on my headphones, so they just thought I was a great rapper! I checked my phone at lunchtime and I've got 187 new friend requests!
Researchers recently studied 3, 000 middle and high school students. Among them were 618 teenagers with one parent who lived away from home for long periods of time because of work. The researchers wanted to know how the work of these "fly-in, fly-out" parents might influence the health of their children.
A higher percentage of teenagers who experienced the long absence of a parent had emotional (情感的) or behavioral problems compared with those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research finding high percentages of emotional problems in teenagers who often returned to an empty house after school or whose parents were seldom at dinner.
Findings also suggest that parents don't have to be home all the time to be present in their children's lives, but it helps to be home at certain times. And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted plant.
Many parents of teenagers have known this to be true and find ways to be present without trying to start a conversation. One friend of mine quietly does housework each evening in the sitting room where her teenagers watch TV. They enjoy one another's company without the need to talk. Another friend usually accepts his daughter's invitation to work or read nearby while she sits and does her homework. Perhaps, that, at least for some families, is the best way for teenagers and their parents to stay close.
In fact, many years of research suggest that children use their parents as a safe base from which to explore the world. Studies tell us that young children quietly follow their parents' movements from room to room, even while carrying on with their own activities. Perhaps our teens, like babies, feel most at ease when their parents are still around. They don't want to stay away from parents who allow them freedom. A new school year is at hand, so as parents we could offer our teenagers a "potted flower" as a gift, whose quiet and steady (稳定的) presence will give them a great day.
The early life of the green sea turtles (海龟) is full of danger. Only one in 1,000 baby sea turtles survive to adulthood. From its home in the sand, it breaks its egg with an egg tooth. Its mother is not there to help it. Instead, it is greeted by crabs, coyotes, and dogs waiting to eat it for dinner. To survive, the baby turtle must hide in the sand until night. Then, it moves slowly to the sea.
The small turtles must swim hard to reach the ocean waters. In the sea, it tries hard to find food. It must also keep itself from being food for fish.
As dangerous as the sea turtles' life is in the natural world, its most dangerous enemies are humans. The rubbish left by humans in the ocean causes problems for the small green sea turtles. A little turtle might eat a piece of plastic (塑料) in the sea. It might also eat oil on the ocean's surface. Young turtles also get caught in fishing nets. There are laws against hunting sea turtles. Still, many are hunted, both for their meat and for their shells (壳). All of these dangers must be prevented.
Sea turtles that do survive to grow into adulthood go through many changes. For example, they stop eating jellyfish and other meat and eat only plants. And they may plan a trip to go back home again. A mother sea turtle goes back to the beach where she was born. This is the only place where she will lay eggs. Even if it has been forty years since she was a baby, she always knows her way back home.
Are you new to experiencing relationships? Well, let me give you advice on how to have a healthy relationship with your partners.
Be an honest person with them. Do not hide things from them, do not lie. Don't be afraid to say things that aren't very flattering about yourself. Getting them to trust you is the most important element in any relationship. If there's no trust, there's nothing there.
Make sure you give them respect. Now respect isn't just simply treating her or him nicely. You have to learn to adjust to their liking. Basically, learn to study your partners' moods, wants, and needs. Don't just think about yourself, think about what your partners need out of it as well.
Make sure you are encouraging to your partners. Always be willing to help them and give them honesty and positivity at the same time. Make them feel you are someone they can really depend on and build a future with.
Make sure you have a good sense of humor with them. Laughter is the key to happiness. Laugh a lot with them, joke with them. Laughter may seem silly, but it's the secret to a lot in life. It will keep the sparks alive.
Make sure the communication is good. This usually goes along with trust, but always communicate how you feel, even if it's something that upsets you. If they did something that made you unhappy, tell them about it in a respectful manner. It's important to communicate this to them, not keep it bottled up.
A. There's a lot more to it.
B. Show them your personality.
C. Instead of screaming, talk to them.
D. Laughter keeps the relationship strong and lasting.
E. So please be honest and they'll learn to open up to you.
F. Don't start to ignore them and make them feel unwanted.
G. Your partners will be able to depend on you when necessary.
When my son was born, I was excited to think about his future. I1him doing great things and taking the world by storm.
After 18 months, I saw Lachlan was 2. He was happy, but I found he wasn't communicating like other kids. He was just in his own world. After some tests, I received a call from our doctor with the 3:" Yes, I'm afraid your son has autism (自闭症)". The doctor warned the 4 would get worse and that it was unlikely Lachlan would live independently. The doctor took away the one thing parents need-5.
Over the next four years, I threw myself and Lachlan into early intervention (干预)to prove that doctor 6. After spending most of my savings we started 7improvements (改善) but we were both very tired. After one hard week, Lachlan was watching TV and the" True Colours" song started playing. He had never sung before and he said" Mummy listen to this" and he 8 it. I cried. I realised the person I needed to 9 the most wasn't him it was me. I started to 10 his difference. I no longer 11 the future as I'd found hope again.
For Lachlan's birthday present last year, I 12 to write a book for him to understand his autism. It's about famous people who used their special autistic gifts to change the world. Lachlan loved the book and I made copies to help our "village" 13 him. And their support was great and more orders from friends of friends started coming in. I 14 to spread the word of acceptance of differences further, so I posted the book online.

Every autumn, millions of the North American monarch butterflies manage (travel) around 4, 000 kilometres south and find their way to places they will spend the winter.
A team of scientists (lead) by Professor Eli Schlizerman at the University of Washington has discovered that the monarch is able to tell the time of the day and then uses (it) eyes to measure the position of the sun. These two (piece) of information allow the butterfly to determine which way it needs to go.
The monarch's population (crash) by as much as 90 per cent in the last few years. (sad), human activity is the main reason why number of the North American monarch butterflies is falling.
The research on the monarch's behaviour has however led a greater awareness of this creature.
The more we know about this lovely creature, the (great) the chance it will survive.
