Experts say that students usually need eight to ten hours' sleep at night, but most Chinese students do not get enough sleep. Some Chinese parents are usually happy to see their children studying late. They will think their children work hard, but not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us that every morning her 10-year-old boy put up one finger with his eyes still closed, begging (乞求) for one more minute to sleep. Like lots of students "early birds" in China, he has to get up before six every morning.
A report shows that without a good night's sleep, students seem to be weaker than they should be. Many students have fallen asleep during class at one time or another. Too much homework is not the only reason why students stay up late. Some watch TV or play computer games late into the night.
Experts have ever said that the students should develop good study habits. So some clever students never study late, they are able to work well in class.
A young man asked Albert Einstein, the great German scientist, what the secret (秘诀) of success is. The scientist told him that the secret of success is hard work. A few days later the young man asked the same question again. Einstein was annoyed. He didn't say anything, but wrote a few words on a piece of paper. On it was written: A=X+Y+Z.
"A means success" explained the old scientist. "X stands for hard work, Y for methods and Z means stop talking and get down to work."

Spend time brushing teeth along the sides and back of your mouth. Spend at least three minutes each time you brush. Play a song you like to help pass the time. Get a new toothbrush every three months. When you buy toothbrush, be sure it has soft bristles(鬃毛).
⒉ Learn how to floss(用牙线清洁牙齿) your teeth.
Flossing is a very important way to keep your teeth healthy. Food may hide between two teeth. Flossing can help get rid of (清除) it. You'll need to floss your teeth at least once a day.
⒊ Have good eating habits.
You need to be careful about what you eat and drink. Eating sugar is a major cause of tooth decay(蛀牙). Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink water instead of soda(苏打汽水).
April Fool's Day is coming! But do you know how April Fool's Day comes?
In the sixteenth century in France, the start of the New Year was on April 1st. People celebrated the New Year in the same way as it is today. They held parties and danced into the late night.
Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar into the Christian(基督教的)world, and the new year fell on January 1st. Some people didn't believe the change in the date, so they celebrated the New Year on April 1st. Others played tricks on them and called them "April fools".
Today Americans play small tricks on friends on the first day of April. One common trick on April Fool's Day is pointing down to a friend's shoe and saying, "Your shoelace is untied." School children like to tell a classmate that there are no classes. Then if someone believes the trick, he or she will be called the "April fool"! People play tricks on each other only because they want to enjoy themselves together. Most jokes are really funny and people play tricks not to hurt anyone but to find happiness.

"Mrs. Trent moved," said Nita. "She used to go out each morning and pick up trash. I often saw her on my way to school.”
Mrs. Gill looked very ▲ . "I thought I knew everything about this neighborhood!" she said. "But you see more than I do!"

"I could do that," said Nita.
Mrs. Gill said, "I will carry the trash bag! You can use my gloves(手套) so your hands can stay clean, Nita put on the gloves. She picked up pieces of paper. She picked up boxes. And Mrs. Gill carried the bag. Lots of people stopped to thank Mrs. Gill and Nita. The street looked much better.

American schools must obey the classroom rules. Here are some of them.
If the teacher asks you a question, you should answer it at once. If you do not understand the question, you can put up your hand and ask the teacher to say it again.
You must not be absent (缺席 ) on a test day. If you are seriously ill, let the teacher know. If your teacher allows make-up tests, you'd better take the test within one or two days after you return to class.
It is rude(不礼貌的)to be late. If you are late, you should come into the classroom and go to your seat quickly. In the US it is not necessary to knock before you enter the classroom.
In America, you should call your teacher by his or her last name, not "teacher". Also you should use Mr. Miss, Ms or Mrs before the last name, such as Mrs Smith or Mr Jones.
In the US, it is impolite to eat, drink or chew gum (口香糖 ) during class. Don't do these until(直到)the break.
