Visiting Xi'an was once Leah's dream. It came true when she went to China along with her two friends last year.
During her 20 days in Xi'an, Leah got a chance to learn about Chinese culture closely. She visited many old buildings there. Xi'an City Wall was her favourite. In Xi'an, she enjoyed many kinds of food and watched some traditional shows. All of them left a wonderful impression on her. Now, Xi'an is like her second home. Since Leah came back to Spain, she has been missing Xi'an very much.

What do you know about the Mount Qomolangma? During May, most places in China are warm. But Mount Qomolangma is still cold and (cover) with snow. At this time, a group of Chinese climbers are climbing (high) mountain in the world. They are going to measure(测量)the height of the mountain.
In fact, China already measured the height of the mountain in 1975(8,848.13 meters) and 2005(8,844.43 meters). the height can change as Earth's plats (板块) move. As technology improves, people want to get (many) exact numbers.
However, measuring its height is not easy. temperature there is -29℃, four degrees lower than that in Antarctica(南极). The snow there is 4—5 meters thick and strong winds blow all the time. Climbers have to carry scientific machines to the (world) rooftop (屋脊). They collect data(数据)on the top of the mountain.
To deal with the difficult conditions, team members started training in January. They have to sleep in their tents (keep) warm. To save fresh water, climbers seldom take a shower or wash faces. As for food, they have three dishes and soup for each meal. It is easy to keep meat fresh such a low temperature.
Though there are also some other (difficult) that we can not think of, the mountain is still worth measuring. An exact measurement can help to study the plate movement so that scientists can warn people the (come) of the earthquakes.
Alice Thompson, together with her friend, made a ride on a long-distance train from Sydney to Alice Springs. They (spend) two days and nights on the famous Ghan train.
The train was wonderful and comfortable and the food was great too. They tasted delicious meals were cooked by experts! The scenes were very colorful for the first few hundred kilometers of the journey. Then they saw desert and empty farms.
The people on the train were nice. Alice sat quietly and looked of the window, enjoying the scenes. Sometimes she talked to other (passenger), and sometimes she enjoyed (she) with books and music. At night, the night sky was so beautiful with the stars shining like diamonds she often watched it for hours.
Why is the train called the Ghan? A long time ago, Australians needed a way (travel) to the middle of the country, so they brought some camels Afghanistan. Ghan is short for Afghanistan. For many years, camels carried food and other supplies, and returned with wool and other products. In the 1920s, a new railway line (build) and the camels weren't needed any more. As result, some were shot according to a law made in 1925.

On my recent travels in China, I went from the top to the bottom of the country. I was surprised at different the weather was in different cities. So far I have been really cold in Harbin and Chongli, but much in Shanghai, Guilin, Qingdao and Yangshuo. Each city has a(n) different feeling.
In Harbin, we our warmest jackets and saw ice sculptures (雕塑). In Qingdao, we ate seafood and enjoyed swimming in the sea. In Chongli, we were how to snowboard! In Shanghai, the fine cafes made me think of a city in Europe.
Guilin was a good place to stay during the Spring Festival. The streets were busy with people. I visited old . But Yangshuo, a county (县) in Guilin, has been my favorite place. I couldn't stop photos of the beautiful mountains and the Lijiang River. I rode a bicycle in the warm sun. I drank fresh tea the farms in the mountains.
Now I'm back in Beijing. I'm looking forward to my next trip!
