A Swedish couple on holiday were traveling around Italy, and wanted to go to Capri. Capri is an island in the south of the country,1 for its beautiful coastline and a popular tourist destination (目的地). The couple put their destination into their car's GPS (全球定位系统), 2 they made a spelling mistake. They 3 typed CARPI instead of CAPRI. There is a real place called Carpi in Italy, but it is a small town in the4 of the country.
The couple followed the GPS directions. Although they were traveling to an island, it didn't5 them that they didn't even cross a bridge or see the sea. When they arrived in Carpi, they went to the tourist office. They asked 6 they could go to the Blue Grotto, a well-known sea cave in Capri. Of course, the office worker there couldn't 7 them. He thought they wanted to go to a 8 called the Blue Grotto for dinner.
When the man realized that the couple thought they were in Capri, he 9 their mistake. The couple got back into their car and started driving south. The office worker said, "They were10 , but not angry."
It was a spelling mistake that took the couple 600 kilometres from their destination.

Dear Bob,
Thank you for your letter. You want to know the weather in England and my dream job. Now let me tell you.
Well, in England it is not too hot or too cold all year round(一年到头). This is because of the sea(海). It keeps the island(岛)warm in winter and makes the air cool in summer.
The winds also have much to do with the weather in England. It has lots of rain in England. The weather is often different. You can't have the same kind of weather for a long time. In winter it's often foggy(有雾的). So you should drive carefully. In spring, you can see the sun and rain on the same day.
As for my dream job, I want to be a policeman like my father. And I think it's very exciting.
How about you? I hope you can tell me something about yourself next time.
Best wishes to you.
Yours,
Jack
Simple tips onROAD TRIP PREPARATION Preparing a road trip can be tiring. There are a few things you can do to make it a success. | |
1. SERVICE YOUR CAR Keep your car running well by getting an oil change before you head out on the road. Check the tires too! You'll save yourself a headache later on. | 3. TAKE THINGS TO DO While road trips are definitely about the destination, make sure you pack things for your kids to do to kill the time. At least for an hour or two. It will stop them from complaining all the time. |
2. DON'T FORGET THE SNACKS The only thing worse than "Are we there yet?" is "I'm hungry!" every 2 minutes. So pack snacks. Lots of snacks. | 4. STOP FREQUENTLY Half of the road trip is getting there. There is nothing fun about getting to your destination completely exhausted. Stop at cool places, get some fresh air and take a look around. |
Word bank: tire 轮胎 definitely 确定地 destination 目的地 exhausted 筋疲力尽的
Dear Mr. Seaton,
Thank you very much for taking me with you on that great visiting to London. It was the first time that I had seen the Tower or any of the other famous sights. If I'd gone alone, I couldn't have seen nearly as much, because I wouldn't have known my way about.
The weather was fine on that day. I still remember some people told me that in Britain there was weather and no climate. During the same day, it might snow in the morning, rain at noon, shine in the afternoon and be windy before the night falls. So I think I was lucky.
I think the river trip was the best thing of all. London really came alive for me as we saw it from the Thames during that wonderful journey down to Greenwich. It was a very exciting day that I shall never forget.
Thank you for giving me such a great birthday treat.
Yours sincerely,
Linda Chen
