Rebecca wants to know more about trees and how they help us. Dr Jones is telling her something about trees.
Trees help us many ways. They keep the air cool and clean. They take in (harm) gases from the air and produce oxygen for us (breathe). They are major (fight) against air (pollute). Besides, trees can also make our lives even (convenient). Many of the things in our daily lives come from trees. For example, paper and pencils. (actual), we get a lot more from trees. We get fruit and oil from them. Tea also comes from the leaves of trees. Look around this room. A lot of the furniture is (make) of wood. Trees are really important in our daily lives. So we can't imagine the world would be like if there were no trees.
However, we cut down millions of trees every year. We must stop to protect them we don't want a world without trees.
Last year, some tall trees on both sides of a road needed to be watered. These trees were beautiful, but some branches of them were sick. A team of workers were sent to water the trees and cut down the old and sick branches of the trees. They had to do this because these branches were dangerous for the trees and for the cars on the road.
The workers started to water the trees and cut down the sick branches. These workers were watering the big trees one by one carefully. They found the sick branches of each tree and cut them down. They watered the first tree and cut down the sick branches. They watered the second and third trees. When a worker climbed up to the fourth tree to see which branches of the tree were sick, he saw something surprising. There were five baby birds in the tree!
The worker climbed down the tree. He told the other workers about the baby birds. They decided not to cut down the branches of the tree. They waited until the birds were older. They did not cut down the sick branches of the tree until the birds flew away.
